Felzuma

which GTA had the best combat system?

Recommended Posts

SuperGTFan

has anybody else been able to bitch slap as michael or franklin?. I've only done it as trevor. their seem to be a few attacks that are only exclusive to trevor, the head butt being another one of them.

I only did it once with Franklin, and that was a very rare moment to be honest. Edited by SuperGTFan

Sleeping Dogs GTA IV. They could've expanded the combat system for GTA V, but they only dumbed it down...

GTA 3/Vice City fighting system was terrible quite frankly. GTA SA melee mechanics were very smooth and it was fun to lay into peds with quick 5-6 punch combos, the 3 different fighting styles you could learn added to the experience. Niko has some good variation of techniques but he moves and fights like a robot.

In terms of unarmed combat, I'll go with GTA: Vice City Stories. It's quick, but strong.

Now, if we're talking gun-wise, IV without a doubt. V had a good cover system, though.

Hot Pursuit

Fighting: I had to admit, IV one are great. But they don't have one hit kill punch like in V, Also the animation was strange (Compared to smoother V ones). VCS one was Great too

Shooting: V obviously, it more fun than IV one, also sniper zoom is smoother in V

Cover: V too, IV one are broken

I've one punched KO'ed plenty of peds in GTA IV. If you time it just right you can lay way one out with a punch to the head.

Vcs>You can grab enemies, throw, kick and snap neck. It is really great.
Sa>While you can't fight like in vcs you can still learn different fight styles.
4>It is not that fun compared to vcs and sa but it is still great. You can counter and finish opponent with one move...peds don't die easily and it is not boring unlike 5.

We never had a perfect combat system in GTA, but there were some highlights, like in SA and IV. If I could have IV's combat system+SA's fighting styles+V's cover system I'd be a much happier man.

san andreas had the best melee because the controls were fluid it had superb hit detection and cj strikes with lightning speed. also there was more than one fighting style.

I did also when I talked to the soapboxer in blaine county that's dressed as uncle sam. I have it recorded and plan to use it in a music video montage. I think it comes from the biker update.

I like San Andres and IV, SA had different types of martial arts and boxing, in IV the combos and taking the other persons weapon and what made the game awesome to just fight people, in IV the cops actually had human like aim where they missed sometimes unlike V where they could shoot you half way across the map

Melee?

That goes to Vice City Stories, all day because neck snaps and grappling.

Followed by IV with counter attacks, no rubber banding BS, no OH-KO BS and peds only being knocked out after defeat, not dying.

I've to go with GTA IV. It is quite fun and satisfying with minor flaws here and there.

IV has the best imo, you can counter if you time it right, punches have weight behind them, you have to time them properly or your opponent will get the upper hand with a combination, it helps too that opponents put up a good fight.

San Andreas had a good combat system too, the gym system was a cool idea, choose from boxing, kung fu, or dirty fighting, I appreciate the variety, kung fu was my favourite.

Honourable mention to Vice City Stories which allowed you to grapple and throw, which was a nice addition.

San Andreas. Melee combat isn't really a hassle and you can learn new moves which is an aspect no other GTA has.

Also getting peds to fight each other is easy. In 3, VC and the Stories games, angry peds mostly just run over to you. In SA they go into an angry stance which makes having them accidentally hit others easy to cause.

GTA V's melee is clumsy, especially Online since there's no way to choose what type of punches you'd like to throw, leaving yourself open out of your control. IV's is a bit better since you can choose your moves but still awkward compared to SA.
