Stop messing with my aim

Is this just poor design or am I missing something? Never-mind that auto aim is being used in an online game, I won't start that debate, my issue lies with being forced to use it.

 

When I start up free roam online, I have Free Aim turned on, 90% of the time I join a mission I get told my aim type has to switch. So in a co-op or competitive mission, I'm forced to play with auto aim on? Stupid, but fine. Then when I get added back to free roam, I still have auto aim turned on, and I can't turn it off? As far as I can tell, I have to join single player, change my settings there, then switch back to free roam online? No way in hell the system is that stupid, so, what am I missing? How do I switch auto aim off? Is there a way to keep it off?

You're probably joining friends that are playing on a different targeting mode. If joining random missions; it shouldn't do that. Unless the game forces you to change aiming mode due to lack of players (reason I stopped playing free aim - haven't tried since as AI doesn't use free aim) but it still shouldn't do that.

Make sure your settings in SP are correct. Xbox has an option to change controls based if you choose Shooters or Racing as standards controls (something along those lines) so check that out if you're on the Xbox (360, as far as I know). You should probably check in with the Help & Support section as I honestly have no clue why or how it would change it in the first place and not revert you back to your targeting mode once the mission is done.

It is baffling that you have to go back to SP to change your aim settings. I don't think the game has ever put me back in free roam with my preferred aim type intact after I had to change it for a mission, I didn't even know it was supposed to because it never has.

Solution: Start playing with auto-aim, R* intended their game to be played that way.

My FA works great. If i join an AA mission, it reverts back to FA the moment I am in FR

I play free aim and since heists update I get plenty of invites for auto aim missions/heists. Before the update I would get auto aim job invites only from my friends/crew but now it's from randoms so there's definitely something to it.

 

What console are you on? I've heard it's an issue on new gen. I'm on 360 and it reverts me back to fa when quitting aa vote screens (although it puts me in aa fr after heists).

 

EDIT: If you want to change aim settings go to content creator and change it there, it's much quicker.

It should quite literally be like changing your active crew, just throw you into a new fitting session.

No one should be forced to do something they don't want to do. And this is coming from an auto aim player.
