Is RDR Multiplayer better than GTA Online?

Both games are repetitive, but what game isn't.

I prefer animals over cars, so horses in RDR are more for me.

Also prefer the countryside over the city. I know GTA has it's country, but no animals.LOL

I can play shootouts in either. I still prefer the guns in RDR. Explosive rifle is awesome. Trolls love getting blasted with it. If multiplayer wasn't so messed up these days, I'd still be troll hunting.

Hard to beat the single player characters in RDR.

I enjoy the outdoor sounds along with the music of RDR, over the GTA traffic sounds and sirens, or NPC's swearing at you.LOL

RDR is more relaxing when riding around.

I still like RDR over GTA.

If they made a PS4 HD version, I'd buy it.

In terms of Rockstar's best open-world multiplayer?

Red Dead Redemption was a masterpiece of a game. Gang Hideouts, intense posse shootouts, NORMAL, FRIENDLY, and HARDCORE Free Roam sessions, some awesome game modes (Stronghold, Poker, Liar's Dice, et cetera...)

People were FRIENDLY (although you'd run into the occasional gaming nerds who think their MLG on a video game) but it was pretty chill.

GTA Online is freaking great too!

What do you guys think? Opinions welcome!

I'm just really curious to what you guys think.

Is it cool to talk about Red Dead in here? Red Dead is in the same universe of GTA right?

Pretty much.

Posse System >>>>>>>>>> anything GTA Online has to offer regarding gang members.

I can't tell you how often my crew have been split up and disconnected because we're doing this manually instead of having a system that keeps us all together.

R* San Diego had some great ideas with Red Dead.

If Red Dead is a nice shot of a good whiskey then GTA Online is dropping acid and doing shots of tequila.

I will say in Red Dead it was easier to meet cool people while so much of GTA Online is trash talking ADD tweens.

I enjoy GTAV Online, probably because I only play with mates but RDR Online was fantastic. The Posse system, oh the Posse system why that didn't come to GTAV I have no idea it was perfect, the Gang Attack Forts, Zombie stuff and the Death matches were vastly superior. I enjoyed the side games like Poker and Dice too. Shoot outs with the law were fun basically the whole game was very VERY good. GTAV Online isn't as good on the small scale stuff but it does have a ton more vehicles and more log on a f*ck around stuff to do and obviously a ton more races.

EDIT Also agree there was a better class of player, at least until the modders ruined it.

Hopefully the new Red Dead will include a new online version that would allow me to own a house in the city and maybe ranch in the country

Of course the one in the country would only store 4 horses and the ones in the city would store 10

For freeroam value, I'd say RDR was better honestly. I mean cmon, nothing beat tearing up the session on a Zebra Donkey while headshotting with that M1 esque rifle.

There were also way more players who considered being friendly than in GTAO since there were so many things you could do in free roam working together. In GTAO practically EVERY session I join consists of players huddled somewhere near downtown having a shootout or just aimlessly driving/flying nowhere.

This is actually the main issue I have with GTAO in general, you practically have to be brain dead in order to derive enjoyment out of constantly driving/shooting with no purpose, because that's all there is to do in freeroam with GTAO. No "posse" system, no actually interesting mini games, none of the things which made RDR so interesting in freeroam.

Texas hold em', NEED I MENTION TEXAS HOLD EM? Whenever riding around got boring & you wanted to not do something killing related that mini game was perfect. Not to mention that the card game was executed near-flawlessly.

As far as scenery goes I also found RDR to be 100x better looking than GTAO, maybe just because I truly love the style & feel of old western towns? There was so much more diversity within the map in RDR as well. Up in the north east you had a fortress which was covered in snow & looked impecable at sunset/sunrise. Mid-east you had your great plains, South was the airy desert, I could just keep going on & on.

So in summary, with GTAO there is certainly quantity, but the quality of free roam of RDR is in my opinion was eons ahead of what GTAO has to offer.

Blue sh*t on the map, random invites every two seconds that you cannot disable, kush kerds, alien looking characters rather than detailed, pre-made ones, gang hideouts that aren't worth it, no forest or desert, extreme realism (can't land bike w/o dying from a certain height, character slides off ledge when you try to jump), fixed more "fun" glitches than RDR did, modders after a few months instead of a few years, no animals. I could keep going.

Yeah, who wouldn't prefer GTA O to RDR?

^basically this. People don't realize how lack-luster & lame GTAO's freeroam is until it has been all said & done with. In hindsight, once GTAO is completely demolished by hackers after PC version is released & they cross over mods & hacks, RDR would be the victor in content QUALITY.

I loved RDR multiplayer - I used to think I spent so much of my time on there, but it was actually just two months. In comparison, i've been playing GTAO for almost two years.

The ranking system in RDR is better than GTAO in my opinion. Work up to rank 50, then have the option to reset and start again, but with a badge/identifier that shows you've already ranked up fully in the past. I wish we had something more like that, because past level 200 the XP in game is meaningless to me.

I love them both, particularly how close the gunplay was in RDR... but if I had to choose one or the other right now, it'd still be GTAO, depite the issues I have with it. It's easily the game i've devoted most of my time to and there must be a good reason for that.

I loved RDR multiplayer. Absolutely adored it and to this day still have more playtime in RDR than GTA: O, but GTA: O is far superior in almost every way. There are more missions/races/things to do and so much more content to play with. RDR was only a dozen or so gang attacks(which we basically have in GTA V already), horse mounts, and a few different versus modes to choose from.

I could literally go on for pages and pages into detail why GTA: O is superior, because it technically is.

That is my take too. Red Dead single player was one of my favorite games of all time, maybe #1 on the list. Multiplayer was fun for a little while but got old really fast, as there was so little to do. As with GTA IV multiplayer, it seemed like it was an afterthought to the single player mode, and people would usually just descend into slaughtering each other - which was tedious, as the spawn system was REALLY terrible (spawn-trapping was incredibly easy in some areas, people would just appear in the same twenty foot wide area again and again). GTA:O has flaws for sure, but the depth of content and options blows away IV + RDR combined. To me, it really seems like the first time Rockstar has taken the multiplayer component of their game seriously.

You're focusing on the smaller negatives and not acknowledging the glaringly obvious fact that there just wasn't sh*t to do in RDR multiplayer. Once you beat the gang hideouts and explored the map (which most of us already had from playing single player first), RDR multiplayer was boring. Meanwhile I've been playing GTA:O for *two years* and still have a good time every day. It's far from a perfect game but it offers way more content than RDR multi ever did. Even just going into free roam and goofing off is a deeper experience. Much as I love the atmosphere of the old West, it's hard to seriously compare riding a horse and shooting a rifle at one other player in a barren desert to the insanity that unfolds in GTA:O almost constantly.

Nope, in RDR LA and NYC exist. Jimmy Saint was a writer from NYC, he was traveling to LA i believe.

Maybe it's just me but GTA:O is boring to me, I went online today. Spawn near my house, ok what to do... see some notifications, player A killed player B etc. over and over again.

Cops driving everywhere, someone put a bounty on me for no reason, someone flying the Hydra somewhere just blasted ppl.

Went to Blaine County, mmm... boring. Seriously you may call me a weirdo but GTA V/Online is one of the most boring games I ever played.

I played RDR later and did some remaining challenges, collected some herbs, did some animal hunting. Later some players invited me to a posse, we were riding in Mexico. Some clowns started to attack us later on, so we went to that old fort and blast them with the cannons. Loads of fun.

GTAIV and RDR had much better multiplayer

also

RDR is the best game ever made

Opinions, that's all that you've got to add.

Unfortunately, I was too into RDR story to play online so I can't share my opinion.

Last i remember someone broke the RDR multiplayer in general and rockstar hasn't fixed it...I miss it though, hopefully xbox one will make it backwards compatible come fall. i miss looking for bigfoot and the chupacabra, f*cking around in tumbleweed at night, undead nightmare, and dealing with animals...and fending off the bear/cougar-pocalypse, on GTAO i can't really do that, since paleto bay and sandy shores are so..tiny and empty, and there isn't really much to do outside of los santos. Don't really miss the fact that you had to choose your multiplayer characters, instead of making your own, and that they didn't really look all that cool save the ones from campaign.

yeah, a couple of years back, i think in 2013, just before GTA 5 originally came out, some asshole named glitched matrix broke the game for everyone, all because he couldn't get gud according to OP.

Edit: here's a thread i found from here dated a year ago, actually, http://gtaforums.com/topic/690068-is-red-dead-redemptions-multiplayer-broken/

RDR multiplayer was beyond amazing. But, BUT. It got boring fast. There was only so many gang hideouts, posse was ok tho the constant invites just for that achievement/trophy.

GTA is fun, incredibly glitchy tho. The biggest problem is that

R* refuses to reuse their more popular ideas in different games. That is one thing Activision and Dice have always gotten right. Add new stuff while keeping the old

Red Dead Redemption was better.

There were a lot less nerdy guys trying to act like Lamar on the mic, which is a plus.

I used to have so much fun on that game though. Running away from cougars or trying to fight them on foot with a knife only.

Oh my goodness! The hunting missions were so fun, me + a friend would try knife only with the boars and we would end up getting thrown around by them, It was hilarious.

There was a single cabin up in the mountain where a load of cougar's would spawn and me + a friend would wait inside and take turns running around it while cougar's would try to kill us. x3 (The cabin had a really nice interior too.)

Starting street fight's since you could only knock out your opponent and be knocked out in return. No killing or law intervening.

Everyone was a lot more friendly and would go around in a posse unleashing hell on NPC's. Hell, You could just walk up to them and just tag along.

Also, the undead overrun game mode (I think that's what it was called) was super fun!

Last time I checked, the game was dead. 3x

TL;DR - Boobs.

I have a lot of fond memories playing RDR multiplayer, and most of them involve playing cooperatively with others. Most of the time, I play GTA Online in a solo session because of glitches, modders, and a COD-like player-base (for the most part), not that RDR was devoid of these issues either. That said GTA Online surpasses RDR's in many respects, customization being one.
