If you don't keep your eye on the minimap that is your problem, it tells you when players come out of passive so you have to keep an eye on them. I bet you were hanging around the passiver trying to run them over, throwing stickies at them or doing impromtu gestures, or otherwise how would they kill you if you wern't trying to kill them.

There's this cemented impression in many players that killing others is the only thing there is to do in freeroam. I'd name a few other things there are to do besides that, but the above players would completely discount them as valid activities simply because most anti-passive-mode players aren't here to debate the issue, they are here to force their opinion on others. Therefore, any passive mode users who are trying to ARGUE with those people, should STOP. You are wasting your time.

 

Having said that, I have two more things to say. I'm a passive mode user (on last gen, where it sucks), and if I want to kill other players for fun, I join a deathmatch. You know, those things where a bunch of players who want to kill other players get together and kill each other? You might have heard of it, but it's a bit obscure. But if you bring out your phone in-game and look really closely you can see it, "Join Deathmatch".

 

Secondly, if I am being killed repeatedly by a passive-mode abuser, then wow, I'm a dumb sh*t. If only I had a mini map that showed me who is passive and who is not. Or if I could shoot passive players for like, 10 seconds in advance of them being able to shoot me after they exit it. Or if I didn't have such a short attention span that I forgot about the suspicious passive player hanging out around me for suspicious reasons. Why's he following me around? Could it be he wants to kill me? Nah... That can't be it.

A di** icon blip (R* humor right there) should be placed on these people who are in Passive Mode. Hell, make it even flash really fast that tells you that they are coming out of Passive Mode so you have a chance to react without getting shot in the back.

 

Or put a time limit for how long you can stay in Passive Mode.

maybe not a time limit for how long passive mode can be enabled, but a time limit to re-enable passive mode after killing someone, you disable it, kill a person, wait 5-10 minutes before it becomes an option to enable

Suppose I'm in the middle of playing and I need to go pee. Suppose I'm nowhere near an apartment or garage. Am I supposed to hold it while I drive to an apartment or garage to safely hide? Am I supposed to leave the session I'm in? What if I don't want to leave the session I'm in, because some other players and I were having a good battle? They're not friends, they're just random people that I was having a good time with.

 

What if I want to find a specific vehicle, and it's known that it spawns more commonly in public sessions?

 

There are many good and reasonable reasons to use passive mode in a public lobby. THAT'S WHY IT'S f*ckING POSSIBLE! If Rockstar wanted people to go hide in an apartment if they were going to be AFK for a couple minutes, or leave a public session, then passive mode woulnt even exist!

I think there should be 1 minute cool down that resets and adds on another minute with each kill (Kill 1 person and a 1 minute timer starts, kill again before that timer ends and a 2 min timer starts, then 3 min, 4 min etc) during which you are unable to enter passive mode.

 

This would prevent someone from killing a bunch of people or the same person over and over, then going passive before being killed back. You could check how much time you have left by hovering over the "Enable Passive Mode" option, which of course would be grayed out. Perhaps everytime you get killed by another player it reduces the remaining time by 30 secs.

 

And I think you should have to wait 3 minutes to re-enable after disabling (kills would add to that timer too, in the same way)

 

Also I agree that we need a better way to tell when someone is disabling PM. Perhaps when someone is in passive mode their blip is Green (safe), and when they're disabling it it turns yellow (caution) or something like that, then back to white - red after.

 

Also I wouldn't mind an option for us to be able to choose whether we see those in passive as Ghosts or not, since some people like it and some don't.

 

Other than that I like it as it is. Keep it free too. And no time limit once you're in passive mode either.

Well there is the race mode called GTA Race, where killing people is implied to win racing. That and the dozens of guns, stores to rob, 1v1 deathmatch options when you die to another player. It's almost as if Rockstar wants you to "Kill Everyone", just like all the other past GTA's.

 

Has everyone gone soft? GTA is full of murderous, homicidal, maniacs. Perhaps if people don't like being killed they should play My Little Pony instead.
