"Distract Cops" Activity

Has anyone had this pop up in their Freemode sessions? If you haven't, it goes a little something like this:

 

The game will tell you there's a location with a purple marker surrounding it. When you go there, there will be a timer counting down. It is at this time you will get a two-star wanted level. If you die, the timer will still count, but in order to participate, you'll have to be in that marker.

 

The reward for holding out is $10,000 and a text from Lester. Has anyone tried this yet?

 

Edit: the police will still pursue you even after you complete the activity. I just had N.O.O.S.E. teams slam into me head on to prove it.

Yeah, over a week ago, it's pretty pointless...especially considering that the timer still counts after death...it should be less time and that you can't die

Yea. Everyone in the lobby must get the same pop up as they all seemed to be in the circle. Had great fun in the armoured Karuma tbh.

I've barely seen any activities at all in free roam. Blown up one smuggler heli and a car and thats it so far. Also havent seen a Lester target for a while, has that been removed for these?

It's there, but the game can be random in spawning it at times. Since the update, I've only been seeing a consistency in Simeon's blasted vehicles.

i was flying around in my hydra when i notice a weird purple circle on the map, when on to investigate, got the "distract cops" notification and timer.

 

i pick on the cops easily, cashed in 10k and added another notch to my "Police Mocker" award... just 24 more to go platinum!

Yeah I was thinking of that too. I've been battling cops since GTA IV's multiplayer. About time we started getting paid for it.

It's very fun. Just grab your Insurgent and ram the cops around for the 5 minutes. I use my Karuma as well if it's already out since I want to get there at the start for the platinum reward, plus you get paid less if you hop in after a few minutes. I came into one at 2.5 minutes and got 6k

Yeah I've done a couple - just trolling cops in my Insurgent.

Yes, or at least it happened to me in invite only, and I was the only player in the session. I also got the smuggler plane activity too, a few minutes later.

Yep, I do them whenever they pop up just for kicks.

 

I just roll up in my Armoured Kuruma and go to town. By the time I get done, I have a five star wanted level, and there are burning bodies and wrecked vehicles strewn across the area.

So this activity of distracting the cops, and the two others... take down plane and destroy vehicle, is it?

 

Are these just random events that occur without notification? That is, does one need to receive a text or phone call from a contact for these to happen?

 

I was looking at a character's unlocks, and it seems as if these were unlocked, but I don't remember receiving any info about these features by way of text of in-game message. Still haven't had one appear yet, either.

Every once in a while.. Easy 10 grand made! There's no problem staying alive even with the stars on your tail, and after it's done it's nothing too serious to lose them.

I did one this morning for first time, just to see.

 

Some jerk came along & blew me up (then ran away).

 

Would be nice if it happened like gang attacks & you were protected from other players for the duration of he countdown.

Maybe that'll come in in a patch or two.. Or never. You're p much a sitting duck for other players to kill you as is.

i think it is a bit flawed in that the other day i rode through one while riding the metro in passive. got a pop up thing saying to distract the cops, bu i just stood there on the train and even after leaving the circle i still had a wanted level which i can understand, but it also still gave me RP/$8000 even though i did nothing, was in passive and was on the other side of the city when it ended. basicly you just have to drive through it to complete one. that is not right it should not let you get anything if you do not stay in the circle imo.

The random event is quite interesting.I have done two by now,once alone in Murietta Heights and another one with a random is Port of LS.The Port one was fun since there was a large space and a random did not shoot me for being 20 meters from him.

Unless you are in a tank or armored vehicle, you might as well not do it.

 

You have the potential to drop cash, get your vehicle impounded, waste ammo...

You will get like 5 stars by the end of it. Good cash about 9,000 or more. BUT 4 and a half minute timer? Seriously Rockstar?

 

Can the cash award be reduced by any means? I got 9,000 last time but the next time I did it I got 10,000.

I had 1 at the port as well and even though it goes up to 5 stars I didn't ever really feel trapped or overwhelmed. It was only after the timer expired that it felt like a normal 5 star level{Cops just spawning right in front of you etc} It is pretty annoying that you than have to lose the level afterwards but it makes sense. You just need to have a plan in place.

I tried to do one but there was 3 or 4 other players in the circle and they kept killing me/each other and I didn't end up getting any reward. No big deal though really.

I say it's great practice for those who need to sharpen their skills when facing cops...Like say the Pacific standard finale where randoms and even a friend had no clue that taking cover helps......Sigh. lol

I've only seen the distract cops and smuggler planes once the heist update released. After a week of playing I haven't seen one again, although I don't mind since it only gives you a couple thousand dollars.

I agree that death should mean failure. But I don't think it has to be shorter...

 

It's kind of like a little survival mode, but more in the style of a gang attack where other players can still harass and kill you. Five minutes is still shorter than most contact missions and 10k is an okay (not great) reward.

 

Especially easy if you have an armoured vehicle. Personally, I've only seen a couple of these distractions pop up (mostly by the area where the rival gang keeps their trucks on the mission Trash Talk), but if I see one in a different area I like to go there and find a good spot to camp. Which includes having cover from choppers and being safe from officers coming from both sides.

I participated in it once without realising what was going on - I was stood on the top of a building playing sniper and suddenly I was in the circle, didn't get a single shot from the police and got money because there were a couple of players at ground level taking all the flak

Seen it 3 times, only did it once. 7k, it was a lot of fun!
