Uber in GTA:O

Maybe a crazy idea, but perhaps as a way to make money, there could be an "Uber"-like service in GTA. Basically, you could call for a ride and players would see that someone is calling for a ride on the map. If you "accepted" the task, you would be in passive and the player waiting for a ride would be. The first player to the player wanting a ride would get the job. The player wanting a ride would indicate where they want to go on a map (you can't change it once you select it) and then once the car arrived at the destination, the driver would get paid. If the passenger jumps out, they would still be charged a fee based on how far they went. If they trolled they could get a bad rating, perhaps. You could go far with the idea.

Some issues to work out in the details, but would be a way for players to make some money (and hey, who says it has to be a car, some players could be picked up in a buzzard or other multi-seat ride) and at least it would likely be way faster than the slow ass taxi.

So, something that would obviously pay less than the HPV delivery with players fighting over the player/pickup and/or killing and/or trolling the guy before or after he gets in the car...sure, sounds like a great idea

I like the idea. I had 2 experiences with player taxis, both horrible.

1. Shopping in Sandy Shores area, one guy was following me from Grapeseed, where he waited outside the shop, then followed me to Sandy and procedes to wait outside barber's. Very creepy. I ask what he wants, after my haircut. He says get in. Ok, whatever, I'll go for a smoke in the meanwhile, so got in. He took me all the way downtown LS to his garage. There we changed the cars, and drive outside. I point the gps at the nearest clothes store, as I wasn't finished shopping, he drives me there, I go shopping. Once I finished and gone outside, there he is, still standing, waiting...

-"why you felt the need to take me all the way to LS?"

-"idk, I take you back?"

-"you my personal taxi now?"

-"ya"

At this point someone blows him up and I silently back the hell out of there to blaine.

2. Guy drives up in his armored kuruma to eclipse towers (where everyone seem to live) as I left some random heist host's apartment. He's shooting someone, not noticing me. I hop in his car and text him, "you are my taxi now, take me home!", and point gps at my home. He takes me there, I exit, he shoots me dead. :|

WORST. TAXI. EVER.

So yeah I want more practical taxis!

I came here expecting this type of Uber:

But was pleasantly surprised by the real deal...

I don't think players would be willing to pay someone to drive somewhere which they could do themselves.

I know there's going to be that one guy who says "i would u dingus!!1" but the majority of people wouldn't use it to save money.

How to be an Uber Driver in NG GTA O

1. Acquire a 4+ occupant vehicle (preferably a PV). Dont make it look ridiculous

2. Set it to passengers

3. Enable passive mode. Dont want to get shot for no reason

4. Find a player

5. pick them up

6. ???

7. Profit

I've actually tried this before. I turned on passive, pulled up to players in a stolen taxi cab and delivered them to locations they marked on the GPS.

Problem is.. they never used the GPS.. and just sat there. Then got out and shot my tires. Not entirely sure why people are so stupid.

Sounds too annoying to be enjoyable. I'd rather have them just add taxi functionality like in SP. Give the station it's own waypoint with unlocked cabs spawning there. Each passenger would pay 1-4k depending on distance.

Sh*t, bring back the old job minigames like valet, bus driver, medic, and car scrapping. Call it the "Going Legitimate Update" :D

Honestly, none of this would be high in Rockstar's demand. I could only see this happening if they were REALLY bored and had the resources to spare.

To any mod that comes in here shaking their head like Neo up above, can you guys maybe figure out some way to screen threads before they are posted on the page? Maybe something along the lines of your thread is being reviewed for posting? This would help clear out all the dupicate/useless threads that pop out and help clean out the forums.

I LOL'd at them shooting your tyres. Something me and my mates would do.

However, I'm not sure how they could shoot your tyres if you were in passive mode. Your whole car should have been transparent to them.
