Agreed. Not just here, but everywhere. YouTube comment sections are probably the worst at that. It's been used so much that I believe it's lost any real meaning. Sort of like what COD did to the word 'elite'......

So I joined a new session and there was only one player in it. Actually I'm still in that session right now.

 

Anyway, he's just standing there doing nothing. I've sniped him (after setting a bounty on him to complete the daily objective), called the mercenaries on him, and sent a mugger after him. Am I a douche for picking on the AFK players?

If you go AFK, you'd better be in passive or sitting in your apartment. No one ever does. I've had many instances of players AFK for 20-30 minutes and every time I mugged them $10K - I've gotten $40k from a player who's just sitting there for ages.

 

Was in a session with a couple of other players yesterday and was on the Del Perro Pier towards the end and get up for a second, come back to see another player trying to push my Insurgent into the water (he wasn't exactly having much success, I think he was using an Asterope). Waited a second, came out of passive and hit him with a sticky, BAM. I then proceeded to go after him until he rage quit.

 

Some other player was trying to mess with me while I was sailing in passive over towards the airport LSC. Don't you dare interrupt my peace and quiet in my sailboat. Trying to hit me with RPGs, I then moved away and put a bounty on him. I go away for a second and he's swimming out towards the boat. I'm like, WTF? He gets into the boat and I'm sitting there going I don't know what the F you think you're doing here. Waited a minute or two and he gets distracted and I come out of passive, drop a 'nade on the boat and jump off the back.

Ofcourse not. Killing is what drives the game.

Going afk (well, afc, I'm assuming everyone plays with controller, not a keyboard) is almost like asking to be killed whenever you're not in a safe place.

The only reason I can think of why people would do this is if they were unaware. Meaning they joined a public session and spawned in a dangerous location without knowing, because they weren't looking at the screen (or were watching TV on it or doing something else, I sometimes do that) or were away for a little while.

 

It's almost like virtual natural selection. You have to fight to survive. If you throw yourself in the fight (which you do by going outside of the safety of your personal property in any session with other players in it) then decide to just stand around like a sandbag, you're not going to survive.

 

Chances are though, that the "victim" doesn't give a sh*t. If they're anything like the super cool uber pro players on this forum, they're too cool to care about their K/D stat or some guy getting cheap kills off them.

 

If anything, you may be doing them a favour, or rather, teaching them an actual lesson. If you want to make your public service complete, kill them a bunch of times and then send them a message saying they can avoid that happening by turning on passive mode and going to a place where they can't get killed by vehicles, or by staying inside any of their properties.

That way you can have your fun and still be a decent part of the community.

Infact, I joined one earlier which was very similar, I pulled over next to the guy with my lights flashing.

Realized he was AFC but his vehicle was blocking the flow of traffic.

I moved his car to the side of the road, down a nearby alleyway and slowly nudged him off the road onto the sidewalk.

I then sent him a message and drove away..

 

5 minutes later, more people joined the lobby and I saw his name pop up several times, being killed, everytime He'd respawn..

 

It was rather sad to "See"

I bet most of the people saying he's a dick are the ones who run away from other players who try to kill them in freeroam, go passive instead of fighting back, and have no imagination in a game with so many options on how to 'get someone back'
