Hold L1 and R1? Character appearance glitch

So supposedly rockstar support has been telling people to hold l1 and r1 (lt and rt?) When loading gta v to fix the glitch what exactly does this do?

People say it clears some cache files

Resets your settings to default. I've been using the choose character method to fix mine. Seems the glitch is caused by jobs in general, doesn't matter if it's races, dm's, missions, heists etc. With me it happens every 5-10 jobs I do.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Try unplugging it and plugging it back in again. Oh, it was unplugged the whole time?
