I've always described it as a way of sacrificing quality writing for cheap shock value. Very much agreed indeed, that's exactly how I saw it. It was clearly designed to shock the life out of the more established GTA fans familiar with the series storylines and make them go "oh my gosh, oh sh*t !!" with excitement and thrills, but it pretty much backfired - left a bitter taste in mouth of many fans and it also left them very annoyed and pissed off instead. Only God knows what the hell Rockstar were thinking when they wrote the bullsh*t story that we came to see in V. But I guess people will call anything 'cheap shock value' these days as it seems to be the trendy thing to do, be it video games or movies, and not least when it's convenient to aid the overall and general opinion of something. Only God knows what the hell Rockstar were thinking when they wrote the bullsh*t story that we came to see in V.Oh I know, how terribly stupid of R* to create a character that a huge amount of people loved and were entertained by. What is this bullsh*t? Just what were they thinking those mischievous dumb swines?... I fondly remember the days of the III-era when at once you knew you were in the hood hearing the gunshots poppin' off in the distance or seeing rival gangs randomly blastin' away at each other in vicious gunfights - al by simply just walking the streets and minding your own business. I never even played TLAD but that's not how you kill off a f*cking protag for god's sake! Have the Lost show up in ruthless waves after pushing Johnny's trailer into the water. Most people would spare him. Have Terry, Clay, and Johnny show up in the last wave and give them a health boost. In retrospect I would rather have that...it's not ideal but if they wanted to make Johnny look inferior, at least make him 75% of his former self, damn. Or to be more precise: the fact that the characters in 3D-GTA universe don't exist in the HD-GTA universe and thus we will never see them again. That sucks. I couldn't care less about Johnny. He had the potential to be one of my favorite characters but he blew it because he was too much of a softie. And he ended up exactly as I thought he would after I beat GTA TLAD: dead as a result of just not being able to get over that dumb bitch Ashley. Johnny, on the other hand, was bullsh*t. Hell, R* had to pour salt in the wound by having Terry & Clay killed shortly afterword. Niko and Luis were bad ass, but Johnny was the most hardcore. It would be like if in GTA 6, they had a character kill Trevor, which in result would make Trevor look weak. Trevor killing Johnny K made Johnny look much weaker than the man we saw in TLAD. Though we all got to die sometime, it still carries that effect. I felt that having Grove Street in the game was a nice little reference back to GTA San Andreas, but it is going to be different as GTA V is in the HD era Los Santos. I thought The Lost and Damned made it seem like he was going to go straight, but I guess the point is that very rarely can you go straight, especially if you have nothing worth going straight for. In all honesty, it's more surprising that Johnny lived for five years after TLAD considering how low he went.And Grove Street going to Ballas I really couldn't care less about. The biggest slap to me as an old fan was just how bad Lazlow has gotten in the HD universe. He started off as the straight man in a crazy world, then they gave him a little bit more zany humor in Vice City and San Andreas, now it's like he's a complete f*cking joke. I know, different universes so I don't get that upset over it but that's the only thing I could see mentioning.
