Seeing Johnny K as a pathetic methhead getting killed by Trevor or Grove Street infested with Ballas?

both things are a a slap to older games.

humm, yes, a lot of people like(d) Johnny K and the status quo of Groove Street.

this inclusions/changes are unnecesary.

I really liked Johnny. And I didn't like Trevor for a bit after he killed Johnny.

But I didn't spend weeks crying and being upset with Rockstar for doing that, and trying to argue that it shouldn't have happened, and that the story THEY WROTE for the character THEY CREATED didn't "make sense." Especially when TLAD hinted at Johnny's past drug abuse.

Johnny Klibbitz was a little girl and started playing with the big boys and got put in his place. Hell, that was the only great thing that I can really say that was good in GTAV.

Spaghetti Cat

TLAD had a better storyline than V. Period.

The Johnny scene was the bigger slap not because of his death, but because of the way it was written. Anyone who's a fan of the series and has half a brain can clearly see that it was done for shock value.

Johnny K dieing was probably the bigger slap in the face. It didn't make much sense because it went against everything that TLaD ended with. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but it just cheapens their own writing of that character. I liked Johnny as a character, I understand that he isn't invincible, but it was like seeing bizarro Johnny die and with no explanation of why he was like that.

Groove street on the other hand actually makes sense. First off it isn't the Grove street from SA. They base it around the same story though on how the Families once had control over it but ended up all moving out as they became richer. It always show's the difference between 90's Compton and 2010's Compton. Gang banging and fronting isn't as wild as it used to be and all the past members moved on with their lives or died. One by one Balla's move onto the street and eventually it becomes their area. You don't see many people in V fighting for new turf. they just relax where they are.

Calling Grove street, Groove street, is the bigger "slap".

Hated to see Johnny go the way he went but frankly I remember expecting him to die tragically at the end of TLAD, he was a smarter than average thug but lived hard and fast like the rest of the Lost and they were dropping like flies back then. So, considering that and his toxic relationship with Ashley, his fate was a logical conclusion  Maybe it's because I'm a cynic, but I really can't imagine any of the GTA protagonists riding off into the sunset and living happily ever after, no matter how much I like these characters I feel they would eventually die tragic or foolish deaths like poor Johnny K.

V's is an alternate version but I never cared for Grove street, I hated how Sweet would guilt trip CJ into fighting for that slum when by the end of the game he was a successful real estate owner, businessman and talent manager that reached the level of a serious organized crime boss.

Let the Ballas have it.

None. They killed Johnny because Rockstar is all about moving on.

They didn't mention CJ or anything from the old PS2 games because Rockstar wants to move on and do something different.

This game is about pulling off big heists. It's not about running around Liberty City's slums slinging dope. If you want to live in the past, go ahead. Reinstall GTAIV or San Andreas and have a blast. But these changes in GTAV are simply easter eggs for fans and help bring in the new age.

Johnny meant nothing to me. Played TLAD for a full 5 min. then decided to move on.

Grove Street on the other hand, meant everything. I'd rather have Franklin as a Balla, than see Grove Street fall into the hands of the Ballas. They also reversed the Aztecas' and Vagos' territories.

still affected over Johnny's death ?

u forgot hes a white knight who came to the rescue for Ashley and the name of the club was "The Lost and Damned" ?

the GTA IV DLC pretty much told you they are f*cked from the beginning to matter what they do

dont forget protagonists are only strong as long as we have to use them, then they become normal citizens who can die with 1 shot, you forgot Victor Vance in vice city ?

I liked him too, but it's a story you don't know, you say it was unnecessary because you don't know what's coming, it may make sense later, someone seeking revenge, i'd love to kill Trevor, man i hate him, not as much as i hate Michael though.

Franklin and Lamar actually did have a discussion about when Grove Street was controlled by the Families back in the 90's , talking about "Man, what ever happened to those guys?". No names were mentioned though, it was just a quick nod to SA fans.

I'm still waiting for someone to somehow turn this into a map complaint thread. *grabs popcorn*

On a more serious note though, I think johnny was the bigger slap. The way he went out was way out of his character. I didn't really like johnny nor did I care about him but it seems like that scene was just there to establish that Trevor is an extreme badass. And it totally worked.

Grove street on the other hand was bound to get taken over once cj died. Last time I checked he was the only one taken over turf and keeping the families together.

johnny was a bitch ass junkie who got put in his place by Trever. Bonus points to Trever for f*cking his gf before he killed him.

i hope he kills CJ in the DLC if that damn idiot ain't dead already.

Neither.

The obvious slap in the face was not taking III, VC, SA and IV, and just making the exact same game of each.

Obviously.

Official General

The biggest slap to the older games from V was Rockstar not continuing the tradition of offering a great, unforgettable SP experience that they did, and focusing on online mode instead. However......

Johnny K's death was indeed a pointless idea and it did not do anything to make V's story better. Grove Street being Balla hands was not much of an issue to me, the gang stuff was hardly in the game, so it made no difference anyway.

Honestly I don't even take Grove street or the 'hood' parts of V seriously.

To me V is Sandy Shores, that area gets my heart racing like you wouldn't believe, what a beauty!

I wish Trevor murdered Luis Lopez rather than Johnny though...

Luis came to San Andreas to start-up a club or something and messed with the wrong guy (Trevor) and BANG!!! A big red hole in Luis's face :)

I've always described it as a way of sacrificing quality writing for cheap shock value.
