That "platinum/gold/silver/bronze" thing has to go

All I know is no matter what I do, my buddy BigErn will generally get Platinum because the game just likes him like that.

I tend to get Platinum on levels where I can use the Armored Akuma, get those drivebye headshots OR when I get a couple kills and deliver vehicle.

OP is right though these are absolutely worthless.

Platinum/Gold/Silver/Bronze are as useful as ATM's are which is to say not at all.

As someone who goes in rambo style most setup missions....get a damn car that the ai struggles to shoot you in and keep up. Why should i have to wait for you to pussy foot in and out of cover?

A real teamplayer. That guy is a fine example of why you shouldn't play heists or coop missions with randoms.

Yes agreed. It doesn't promote "team work" and is often the cause of failure.

...by the way, I just summarised your entire rant in one sentence.

Yep. I'm attracting as much gunfire to me, taking bugger all damage, so my team mates can slowly crawl to the objectives and get picked off by respawns/the next lot of spawns :)

I just fly the heli while everyone else did the work.

Platinum for me. Bronze for the toughest member.

Is there any bonus payout from this grading system though? I don't see any extra money at all.

I'm dumb enough to care about my K/D ratio, but caring about getting platinum on heists/setups? That's a whole new level of dumbness.

Though, I agree with OP. I remember I was doing the Bus setup for the Prision Heist. I was the only one who died of in my team. I didn't even deliver the bus nor take care of the helicopter. Basically, I didn't do jacksh*t. I only killed a couple of cops with my minigun just to mess around and, guess what, I got platinum.

sh*t is broken as f*ck.

OP, great post. And that's why I don't play heists or missions with randoms. The gamble isn't worth the risk. I'd rather be semi successful than piss fart around with idiots.

inb4: tl;dr, overused gifs, "B&M thread link", stop having an opinion OP... etcetera.

You really need a new way to fish likes, yes: this is a long read. You shouldn't be surprised, this is a forum, not Twitter.

What's the point of making competitive a complete cooperative gameplay? Why it's so important who did it better if everyone has a different role?

That thing is even broken, you don't get platinum for doing your job, you get platinum if you kill more enemies. I can be a perfect pilot and lose the wanted level in less than a minute and get bronze while some teammate kill cops for no reason. Result? He gets the platinum.

Wonder why randoms race in their Zentornos, ram you and go kill everyone first before you arrive without waiting for the rest to take a good position? Well, the stupid leaderbords. In order to get the platinum they rush the mission and end screwing everything without even noticing they're screwing the crew and wasting our time. In missions they take a spare life, but in heists we have to all over again if they die because their Rambo attitude.

One would expect the platinum bonus would encourage the players to do their roles better, but no. It's the complete opposite: players running, alerting the enemies and making it near impossible for the rest.

I know I can play with my friends or people I trust, and that's what I do. But in order to prove my point I played a few times with randoms. The result...

Bool Ctories Sro..

Prison Break - Station:

Apparently "take the Casco and lose the cops without damaging the car" isn't that clear for some people. We don't have to kill everyone in the cargo ship, we just had to take the car and get out. But no, this guy that was in my team insisted on go Terminator mode. No suppressor and no strategy, no: he arrived crashing and the second he gets out of the car I hear his Combat MG. Great, I had to cover him because in the first attemp he died. When I finally took the Casco and picked him up loosing the cops became beyond annoying. He insisted on throwing sticky bombs and killing cops, that ended in the super NOOSE Grangers and Mavericks reducing the car to sh*t. Great, not only took 14 minutes, I was under the pressure of repeating that all over again.

Prison Break - Finale:

I always choose to be the prisoner since I know how to do it, but this time I let some jerk to do it after getting a message that said something like "let me b the prisoner youll screw it noob". Ok, everything is going well, he died two times but that was normal since not many people use snacks. I land the plane and wait for them to arrive. The guard tries to protect Rashkovsky but the prisoner keeps fighting instead of simply arrive. Another two deaths for him and one failed attemp for letting Rashkovsky die.

Humane Raid - Valkyrie:

Another good example of why the race for the platinum medal screws the mission. So after an interesting race where a green lime Entity crashed the rest of us in order to arrive first he died in less than ten seconds. Why? Because the went straight for the Valkyrie instead of cleaning the zone first and wait for us to help. He forgot about the sniper that killed him in the first six attemps. We couldn't even get close because Merryweather was already alert. In the last try I had to blow his car so we could go together. When I tried to pick him up he started to shoot the Valkyrie and had to leave without him, we barely completed the mission.

Humane Raid - EMP Deliver:

Me and a friend were with two randoms. We only screwed once, the other two failed the mission at least twelve times. And the worst part was that was at the beggining. We clearly told them we were going to kill the first two guards at the same time and they had to move forward; they ignored us and wanted to kill both. Obviously, one guard was alerted. You know what was the worst? They were using weapons without suppressors. They were from the same country so there's no excuse. We finally succeded when I found a way to kill the driver in the Insurgent.

I played like 8 heists/setups with randoms. Six were a nightmare and two went well, only counting the ones that I could complete. After that I was so stressed that I gave up. My point is, that after all that sh*t the reason of ths fails was people rushing for the platinum.

I'm basing my argument on my own experiences and threads all over the forum. Of course I don't want to play with randoms again.

I don't get it, I simply don't get it. I was hosting the heists for them, letting they to pick their favorite roles, not being a bitch about ranks, giving them cuts of 30/40%, taking their sh*t. After all that, for simple common sense one would think they're going to do it well, but no... not even 35% of the final cut is enough. I'm the leader after all, they play like lone wolves and want me to take their orders. Stupid, I'm the leader in a videogame, taking a simple order won't mean I'm their boss for life.

Is that important to know in a mission who killed the most enemies? People in this game care much for a number rather than completing the job without any issues. They care so much for that screen at the end of the mission that they're willing to spend 30k GTA$ in explosives during a mission/setup that pays 19k GTA$. Some others take it to the point of blowing the cars of the teammates and paying the insurance.

I know, this was a long thread, but I rather make an argument and explain why I think that way with my own experiences and not simply post "OMG GUISE DIS SUCK SO MUCH ASS C* RUINED IT AGEN AMIRITE? RANDOMS SCREW IT EVERY TIEM!!!1one".

In conclusion, the leaderbords during missions or any cooperative job has to disappear. Not only because the leaderbords are broken and nobody has done Rooftop rumble in 00:00:00:02 but because it's making team games competitive and that ends in the allies taking each other as enemies. I don't care for free-roam, but not being able to play a heist with randoms because they're going to be the enemies is ridiculous.

False

I got platinum doing a transport role several times, killed maybe a handful of enemies.

Obviously there are many other factors. If I had to guess I would say in addition to enemy kills it considers health lost or damage taken, time spent completing a task/checkpoint, damage to a vehicle, etc etc.

One thing is established, you do get platinum just for killing the most enemies.

I don't think they're trying to get a platinum award, I think they're just not good at the game. Spending all their time in free roam will not make them good at missions or heists.

Soon, many of those players will get the hang of heists, and all of us will have a much better time in them.

I hooked up with some randoms today, and we sped through the Pacific heist. No deaths or restarts. It was the most fun I've had playing them.

tl;dr - you lazy bum, why are you here if you need this? Anyway, blame R* for all your troubles, not the players.

While I gave a like & subscribed, I will say that we never hear about good players on the forum. Everyone here who discusses playing with randoms is always saying stuff like, "played with randoms; immediately drove over me, blew my car up, banged my female character and called me gay when I used my mic with my male voice." No one has a story along the lines of, "I spawned in Paleto Bay and decided to do some shopping...but two red dots were near me, advancing on my position. I tried and fumbled to go in Passive Mode but they were too quick! Over and over they killed me until he arrived. My white dot in shining Adder. Turns out it was chrome but I took it as it came. I jumped in and this mysterious random player saved me from the onslaught of the red dots!" Where the f*ck is the white dot stories? Every thread on this forum is some "I know what's wrong with GTA" guy and saying that the whole community is a f*cking idiot who can't open a cookie jar when you gotta twist it.

I'm not blasting OP as he did his research and he's right that (random number will be picked....96!) 96% of the GTA community who isn't on this forum is an idiot. They all drive supercars and they can't do a two step mission without f*cking up the first step and dying by the second step. I've ran into great players on GTA. Were they on this forum? I don't know. Why am I asking this? Because everyone here seems to be a pro at playing GTA. You guys all use cover, eat snacks, wait for an enemy to turn his back, keep your distance and you all have taste in your cars. So where the f*ck are you guys when I'm playing? Or are you simply clouding your own play style to appeal to others? Of course not. We're all saying the truth here, right? (And now I have no clue where to take this argument from here. Damnit.)

Right, well...I know OP got the idea down of Invite Only and getting a crew together instead of playing with randoms but what about those that can't or don't know how? What about those that don't know about this forum, about the ability to post something, asking for 3 other players to do a heist? What about those players who have no friends on their console and must rely on randoms? First off, they need an invite which GTA has tons of now. R* will soon need a second phone update where one phone is for main usage and the other is just for invites because the phone I have right now has so many invites on it that my delete button on it broke. Of course I'm kidding but I'm at the point where I'm questioning "how the hell did they get my phone number?", as if it was advertised during the Super Bowl and the bottom text said, "send an invite to this number to bang Megan Fox today!" So now that our lonely player got an invite, he'll go in the heist room with 3 other randoms and will, if lucky, get a fair cut. Most of the time, though, he'll get screwed over. No matter as our lonely friend just wants to do the heists! He doesn't care if randoms are greedy and that there's no penalty for someone to have total control over giving money. I mean, yes the leader is paying upfront so he should decide how much to pay each member but the ability to get little to no money on a f*cking heist blows my mind.

So now our lonely player is in the heist with the 3 other randoms. Will they give him a ride or wait for him to get into his own car? Of course not! They'll speed off and leave him in the dust. Teamwork isn't a word they know. Nor the words "taking", "your" and "time". There's an invisible timer for everything in this game. By the time our lonely player arrives, the chances of the randoms dying or blowing something up are far higher than the lonely player getting paid. If they didn't f*ck up, they'll get our lonely player through the heist. Yes, it could of went better but at least it's done, right? But wait, what are these? Some sort of competition? Gold...Silver? Turns out, as he arrived last, took his time, got hit the less and wasted less ammo/didn't crash/other special criteria, our lonely player got bronze. Those don't do anything, right? Well they give a trophy/achievement, for one (if I'm correct) and also can unlock awards which in turn can unlock some things (nothing as of now, as far as I know - please correct me if I'm wrong). So our lonely player, to get platinum, will have to do exactly as the randoms did. He'll need to get a faster car, go head first and make less of a profit by using his snacks, armor and bullets than if he did using his "cautious" approach of earlier.

So yeah, the end screen medals system is broken just like the concept of heists itself. Why would you sign up for a high-risk job with people you don't know? They're not professionals. This man with no shirt on was robbing a corner store just seconds ago. Do you think a bank robber who uses attack choppers and high-tech weapons would stick-up some clerk in a store that sells 9 beers before they sell out and you need to go to another store for more? Heists needs to be redone. The ability to do it with randoms is utterly broken. You know those sheets you see of the team members when looking at the board? R* should scrap that and implement it on the apartment wall instead and features players that play like you do. The time it took to do the heist, the amount of total damage they took, the amount of bullets they used, the amount of restarts they took, etc. A list of currently online players for you pick. Once your team is picked, you can assign 15% or higher. I haven't given a cut or gotten anything less than 15% so far (playing with friends) but some people here play for 0% just for the hell of it? So I guess 0% is a thing, right? Why the hell is it? "Yeah, let me put my neck on the line for nothing at all. But don't take too long as I'm replacing an apple at an axe-throwing contest in an hour."

This f*cking game pisses me off sometimes. Tons of fun and I love how R* are moving forward but not one of them spoke up during the heist meeting? Like, "why would we let players give 0%? And why would they get medals depending on kills when some roles are purely as driver?" But as the first page of the thread said; why care about the medals? ...but then again, why is it in the game? For us to ignore? You can't have something in a game and have weird requirements for it and leave it as it is. There needs feedback, tweaking and a purpose. So the medals, for some players, are letting the others of the team know who did the most work but not once have I figured out who gets a medal and who doesn't. I thought it was based on who did the best job. Anyway, I found the best way to play GTA now is to not get in too deep about it. By adding things in such as the helicopter icon and "fixing" some things like not letting us store some specific vehicles, they've removed a lot of possibilities. They're making us play by how they want it. So no, you shouldn't blame the randoms for being idiots and running in. You should blame R* who promotes extra-violence. I can't be the only one to fear a bit when walking near a dot (of any color), right? 9 times out of 10 I will get shot. Everyone in the lobby kills one another for no reason at all. Maybe some gun restriction or friendly lobbies would help. That could help to reduce the Rambo mentality of rushing in and hoping that armor lasts because that's how every freeroam battles happen. Need proof? Go play deathmatch and you'll see most of those players use cover. In freeroam if someone isn't backing up with a supercar, they'll rely on having a more powerful weapon than yours. It can get to your head when you take down other players and then feel invincible but the AI in heists aren't like players. There's more of them and they hurt a lot so I hope you're ready to try this heist again and again. Fun knowing R* put the restart option, right? It's as if they knew...

I believe the higher the medal the higher the RP received.

I believe headshots and overall accuracy play a role in determining the medal color but are not the only determinating factors.

Fleece setup stealing the Armoured Vehicle, on way back obese gong slow, as soon as the enemy spawned, stopped car, took car and killed them until they stopped, why? To prevent any damage to the car and it worked.

I have noticed its a race to Plane setup for Prison Break

Funny....

Was reading this thread before hopping into the Prison Bus Set Up gig.

Some dude ranked 1145 with an 18.15 KD never leaves the city and trolls his way through the mission doing nothing.

Guess who received the Platinum.

It's totally broken.

One time I played, I saw a guy who didn't take damage but did no work. He got Platinum.

Another time I played, I killed the most enemy, but didn't carry the objective item. I didn't get Platinum.

Another another time I played, I didn't do jack sh*t other than flying the heli. I got Platinum.

And once upon a time I played, I performed the crappiest. I got Bronze. And I know I deserved it.

WTF???

but, I get the gist OP.

My advice is this, when you start a session get people into a chat party and see if they respond. Sound them out aand if you've got a plan make sure everyone is aware of it and has agreed with it.

Anyone not doing it gets kicked aftr the first fail and the rest reinvited (obviously informed by mic via party)

I never really host without talking to people and bear in mind you can kick before launching, so if someone with a stupid name/squeaker/low level enters, just kick their asses into touch.

You are right though, co-ordination is vital and people HAVE to listen. Yesterday I did the Humane Labs EMP place mission literally on my own (i.e killing everyone and having one person follow me as back-up in case) and I couldn't have done that if even one person wasn't in on the plan! (I really should host the video of this but I can't fecking upload right now.. specially for the quadruple silenced combat shotgun kill at the end)

but no, in short:

rules for random recruitment

asshat level - kick

asshat appearance - kick

asshat name - kick

asshat voice - kick

no mic - kick

doesn't join chat party - kick

I know that rules out a lot of people, but at least the people you'll be with should be on the straight and narrow.. ish..

The medals are based on accuracy, headshots and damage taken.

It's scored on a standard curve, so if you imagine it as scores out of 10, platinum down to bronze could score 10, 9, 8 and 7 respectively. So bronze doesn't mean you sucked, necessarily - you could have simply pulled 3 headshots less than the platinum guy.

Also, you can get awarded by default. If everyone else sprays bullets and you take a single headshot, your accuracy will sit at 100%, almost guaranteeing a platinum.

So, yeah, possibly a bit broken and not indicative of your personal execution of your role. Probably best not to get too hung up on medals.

There's also something about objectives in there as well... like the prison plane part - I normally fsee whoever flies the plane gets the platinum... so perhaps the objective gives like a 1/3rd or more towards the medal scores..

I agree that the thing should be scrapped but OP is wrong to say platinum gets handed to he/she with the most kills. Just last night I received the platinum for some legendary work as the pilot in the Humane Labs heist finale;

Kill count: 0

Hits from enemy rockets: 0

It's just pointless. I did all the work in most of the setups and get silver/gold while somebody who just sat on their ass got platinum.

Same when I flew the plane in Prison Break. Platinum!

It shouldn't have been added just like the medals in SP missions
