That "platinum/gold/silver/bronze" thing has to go

You really need a new way to fish likes, yes: this is a long read. You shouldn't be surprised, this is a forum, not Twitter.

What's the point of making competitive a complete cooperative gameplay? Why it's so important who did it better if everyone has a different role?

That thing is even broken, you don't get platinum for doing your job, you get platinum if you kill more enemies. I can be a perfect pilot and lose the wanted level in less than a minute and get bronze while some teammate kill cops for no reason. Result? He gets the platinum.

Wonder why randoms race in their Zentornos, ram you and go kill everyone first before you arrive without waiting for the rest to take a good position? Well, the stupid leaderbords. In order to get the platinum they rush the mission and end screwing everything without even noticing they're screwing the crew and wasting our time. In missions they take a spare life, but in heists we have to all over again if they die because their Rambo attitude.

One would expect the platinum bonus would encourage the players to do their roles better, but no. It's the complete opposite: players running, alerting the enemies and making it near impossible for the rest.

I know I can play with my friends or people I trust, and that's what I do. But in order to prove my point I played a few times with randoms. The result...

Prison Break - Station:

Apparently "take the Casco and lose the cops without damaging the car" isn't that clear for some people. We don't have to kill everyone in the cargo ship, we just had to take the car and get out. But no, this guy that was in my team insisted on go Terminator mode. No suppressor and no strategy, no: he arrived crashing and the second he gets out of the car I hear his Combat MG. Great, I had to cover him because in the first attemp he died. When I finally took the Casco and picked him up loosing the cops became beyond annoying. He insisted on throwing sticky bombs and killing cops, that ended in the super NOOSE Grangers and Mavericks reducing the car to sh*t. Great, not only took 14 minutes, I was under the pressure of repeating that all over again.

Prison Break - Finale:

I always choose to be the prisoner since I know how to do it, but this time I let some jerk to do it after getting a message that said something like "let me b the prisoner youll screw it noob". Ok, everything is going well, he died two times but that was normal since not many people use snacks. I land the plane and wait for them to arrive. The guard tries to protect Rashkovsky but the prisoner keeps fighting instead of simply arrive. Another two deaths for him and one failed attemp for letting Rashkovsky die.

Humane Raid - Valkyrie:

Another good example of why the race for the platinum medal screws the mission. So after an interesting race where a green lime Entity crashed the rest of us in order to arrive first he died in less than ten seconds. Why? Because the went straight for the Valkyrie instead of cleaning the zone first and wait for us to help. He forgot about the sniper that killed him in the first six attemps. We couldn't even get close because Merryweather was already alert. In the last try I had to blow his car so we could go together. When I tried to pick him up he started to shoot the Valkyrie and had to leave without him, we barely completed the mission.

Humane Raid - EMP Deliver:

Me and a friend were with two randoms. We only screwed once, the other two failed the mission at least twelve times. And the worst part was that was at the beggining. We clearly told them we were going to kill the first two guards at the same time and they had to move forward; they ignored us and wanted to kill both. Obviously, one guard was alerted. You know what was the worst? They were using weapons without suppressors. They were from the same country so there's no excuse. We finally succeded when I found a way to kill the driver in the Insurgent.

I played like 8 heists/setups with randoms. Six were a nightmare and two went well, only counting the ones that I could complete. After that I was so stressed that I gave up. My point is, that after all that sh*t the reason of ths fails was people rushing for the platinum.

I'm basing my argument on my own experiences and threads all over the forum. Of course I don't want to play with randoms again.

I don't get it, I simply don't get it. I was hosting the heists for them, letting they to pick their favorite roles, not being a bitch about ranks, giving them cuts of 30/40%, taking their sh*t. After all that, for simple common sense one would think they're going to do it well, but no... not even 35% of the final cut is enough. I'm the leader after all, they play like lone wolves and want me to take their orders. Stupid, I'm the leader in a videogame, taking a simple order won't mean I'm their boss for life.

Is that important to know in a mission who killed the most enemies? People in this game care much for a number rather than completing the job without any issues. They care so much for that screen at the end of the mission that they're willing to spend 30k GTA$ in explosives during a mission/setup that pays 19k GTA$. Some others take it to the point of blowing the cars of the teammates and paying the insurance.

I know, this was a long thread, but I rather make an argument and explain why I think that way with my own experiences and not simply post "OMG GUISE DIS SUCK SO MUCH ASS C* RUINED IT AGEN AMIRITE? RANDOMS SCREW IT EVERY TIEM!!!1one".

In conclusion, the leaderbords during missions or any cooperative job has to disappear. Not only because the leaderbords are broken and nobody has done Rooftop rumble in 00:00:00:02 but because it's making team games competitive and that ends in the allies taking each other as enemies. I don't care for free-roam, but not being able to play a heist with randoms because they're going to be the enemies is ridiculous.

What makes you think the Rambo players are after the platinum award?

There was a time when I went Rambo on the "deliver EMP" job.. it wasn't because I wanted platinum. It was because I had ZERO faith in my crewmates abilities. I killed every one of the NPCs because I knew when, and in which order to do it. I feared that if I had left it up to them, or relied on them AT ALL we would be doomed to fail and repeat the process.

I agree that the system approaches the general community's team spirit issues in the wrong way... As if performance in the set ups would have an impact on the way a final cut is determined..

We should play more time together. I swear these noobs are killing me right now.

I started the yatch setup mission. To start things off, on our first attempt, EVERYONE and I really mean EVERYONE got into my car, so I had to go to the boat. Okay, no biggie. The BIGGIE started when these asshats started to shoot the guards without taking cover, like if carrying coke in less time was going to pay you better you POS... Anyway, we made it through our 6th attempt and we got all the coke. I decided to pick up the helicopter since it was parked on the platform. I was waiting for my crew to enter the heli, when suddenly this f*cking piece of sh*t goes ahead and forces me out of the heli, leaving the yatch with just him and another guy. I raged so hard that I started to spawn kill him just as we came back to free roam.

Strange Town

I disagree that they do it for the platinum medal. Kids don't give a flying F about medals. They care about money and most of the time they're uninformed of what they have to do.

On the Station setup, drive the car and enter the train tracks behind the nearest LSC. On the way there's a tunnel where you can hide from the cops. Through the tracks you'll avoid the Koreans as well. The mission has nothing to do with suppressors and I don't know what's the problem with it. I always used my Advanced Rifle and my Heavy Sniper, both aren't suppressed and me and my teammate rarely die.

It's not a big deal, not worthy that long as post man. It is just for a little fun.

caring about the medals at all...

Youre not doing it right. I dont care what medal I get. As long as I get paid then there is nothing to complain about.|

Protip. Putting inB4 is begging for people to flame the thread -.-

I thought the other way around. It seemed in the heists I have played that the person who does the least gets the Platinum. A crew mate got platinum once just sitting in the passenger seat. So if it is based on kills it is broken as hell.

Oh and BTW there is far more that should be fixed before this and if people you play with make it a factor then you should get a crew that thinks more like you do. Stop playing with people that don't match your playstyle - even if they are IRL friends.

Does it even matter who gets what medal? Do you get more money or rp?

I thought it was certain actions that got you the platinum like

being the driver in the fleeca jobs

getting to avi first

grabbing the docs at city hall

Ive seen these roles pretty much always get the platinum

Is that medal system broken, though? Every setup/finale I've finished gives one of each medals to each player (like, ALWAYS 1 platinum, 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze).

Is that supposed to happen?

Yes it is supposed to happen lol Edited by Mach1bud

I agree about those medals being pointless and annoying and need to go. However I don't believe they are that big of a reason for randoms acting like they do. Randoms will continue to act that way, because that's what they do.

Partly because they're simply assholes, who either think they know better, or simply want to be an asshole for the lolz.

Partly because they might be kids. Did a lot of you REALLY paid attention in video games when you were little? I sure didn't. That, plus possible language barrier... for example I was 13 when "Vice City" came out, and english aint my mother's tongue. Result? I didn't know 90% of the time, what exactly I was supposed to do, not to mention the story itself went right over my carefree head, didn't even touch it a little. Still I passed it twice with trial and error. Difference is I didn't have online access then. :)

Partly (and I think this is the biggest one of all) simply because of communication. Lack of communication can create lots and lots of misunderstandings etc., which results in what seems to be utter idiocy with no excuse.

And in this case, I think only a fragment because of someone trying to get platinum, but yes, there are those, after all you get a trophy for collecting whatever amount. That alone should motivate some people to lose their mind on that.

Yes it is supposed to happen lol

Well, that explains a lot :D

I know it might sound dumb to think that the game should give more than one of each, but i saw them more like "you did great: platinum" , "eh... : bronze" lol

Yeah. Now its more like "You shot more dudes than the other guys! Here is a platinum metal that means nothing!" Lol.

You care about them more then the rest of us do.

Best advice:

DON'T PLAY WITH RANDOMS!

Or continue to find pointless game mechanics to bitch about.

Ya, they are bullsh*t. Especially since they don't take replays into account.

For example:

On the last heist I continually got the most kills and never died. My team kept dying though so we kept having to replay the checkpoints. So anyway we finally passed the heist and I ended up being the last person to arrive at the cliff. And guess who got the bronze? Yup, me. Even though I never died and killed the most enemies during the first stage of the heist.

Total f*cking bullsh*t.

But I recently got the "Mastermind" Trophy so I couldn't care less anymore.

Mottershead

I enjoy the suspense amongst friends/crew after each mission to find out who got what medal.

It's a fun addition to the heists, and one more thing to get ticked off on the march for platinum award completion.

I usually score platinum and I'm not even trying. I think you're over thinking this completely. It's a neat little feature that rewards only rp. It has nothing to do with money and it barely gives anyone any kind of advantage other than a few hundred more rp.

I think someone is just really sour that they keep getting bronze =( how is this this much of an issue to you? I'm just not getting it.
