Impromptu Races

Did my first impromptu race with a friend last night. We wanted to race some busses for a laugh and couldn't find a proper race that allowed use of them, so just decided to steal a couple in FreeMode and try out the impromptu race feature.

 

We both went in passive, anticipating the usual attacks from Los Santos scum, and started the race. As soon as the race begins both busses come out of passive, so we can have a bit of "rubbin' is racin'" fun (more of a bus demolition derby, really). Also, all the white dots for other players on the map disappear, so I can only see my friend's dot. Perfect, I thought, expecting the race to be similar to a gang attack, in that nobody can interfere whilst we're racing.

 

Well, I was wrong. Seemingly, an impromptu race just makes you easy fodder for anybody else in the session. They all get free "off the radar", whilst you get forced out of passive mode. Being in a big ass slow bus doesn't really help your chances either...

 

Anyway, the inevitable happened and my bus got stickied by the biggest pussy I've ever met online. Still, after some hiding in the theatre, lots if running away, some passive mode, and some hiding in his apartment, a couple of clever kills resulted in him rage quitting. Mission accomplished.

 

I'm just surprised that impromptu races are handled like they are. Knowing what I know now I'd never attempt one in a public session in something as big, slow and vulnerable as a bus, but it makes me wonder why R* don't make it like a gang attack and have it so that you can hit other people in the race, but can't hit anybody outside of the race, or be killed by anybody not racing. Just seems like an unfortunate way to implement impromptu races.

 

Has anybody else had the same problem, or does nobody really use impromptu races? I'll admit, I've been playing since day 1 and never tried them until last night.

Ok, now try a one-on-one deathmatch in a full lobby and write down your experiences here. Should be fun.

Done plenty of those. They aren't any different from regular free roam fighting. Just fighting multiple people at once. IIRC all players still show on the mini map as well, but I'm not 100% on that. Either way, that's combat and you're already fighting. Adding a few more people in the mix is just typical freemode.

Nope, you'll get your "off the radar special" in one-on-one as well.

Player dots don't show on the map in a one on one DM as I was getting spawn killed by others in a lobby last night

when challenged.

 

As for Improtu Races they were changed to remove the option for passive mode and I'm not entirely convinced but I don't

think you can collect a Special Crate in passive now as I am sure I saw a player go to a crate in passive and they became

a full non passive player on arrival at the crate.

 

Either way these things are best kept to invite/friend/crew lobbies.

Ah, thanks. I didn't realise all the player dots disappeared in one-on-ones, either. Good to know.

 

Weird that it works like that though. Sure, I get that you want to be able to see the person you want to kill, but making all other player dots disappear is effectively giving yourself up to the lobby for free kills.

 

At least I know now. Over a year of playing and I'm still learning new things all the time.

You say he rage-quit, but there's always the possibility he got bored and you suck. What say you, n00b?

You say he rage-quit, but there's always the possibility he got bored and you suck. What say you, n00b?

Nah, he came flying over at 90mph in his armoured Kuruma and I obliterated him. He immediately rage quit.

 

Not sure how I suck for getting my revenge several times over, but well done for being a forum try hard, n00b.
