Doing heists in a crew? What are the benefits?

I'm currently in IGN crew and I'm lvl 57 crew ranking (is that good?) and I wanted to join a heist crew. But by leaving IGN do I lose my crew rank? What are the benefits of joining a specific heist crew? Are there bonuses? Should I leave IGN, a lot of the people I do jobs with are from IGN as when I do invite crew I am basically inviting thousands of people. Someone please help me xD
