Why does GTA run so slow on my 360?

I am not at my own house the next two weeks and installed GTA on the 360 at the place I am currently.

Now I have never experienced this, but GTA runs really, slow, for lack of better words.

There is definitely a delay in my controller response. (EG I press Y to hijack a car and it does not feel instant like it usually does)

When I'm driving it almost feels like I'm drunk because of this, I never brake in time, I can't rotate my camera fast enough because of the delay and I hit other cars. I feel really sluggish overall when driving.

On top of that the game just feels slow.

I wondered if it was because this is an original 360 (purchased in 05) but I just installed GTA last week on my friends old 360?

Is it the TV that's causing all this? It's a Samsung Smart TV, but I'm not sure if it's LCD or HDTV and neither does my girlfriend.

LCD doesn't f**k up the game this bad does it?

Thank you everyone who tries to help.

If you have the disk version installed, uninstall it. It breaks the game.

If your TV has a Game mode, turn it on.

I also remember the first revisions of the Xbox 360 having issues with GTA V.

I have always installed it by disc. Sorry for sounding daft but how else would I install it otherwise?

I will look for a game mode in the meanwhile

working fine on a 360 from 2005.. but to be honest this box has been abused, i dont really know how it still works. even spilled a bottle of cider on it once. still going strong.

I just feel like, these problems can't all be from the TV right?

Yeah it works for you, and I installed it on my friends old 360 with no issues whatsoever. So I doubt it's a problem with my system.

You could try and install it on a USB stick, provided you have one with sufficient storage. Although I think your Xbox is going to kick the bucket soon. Could be that it's overheating.

Yeah I've heard GTA V can be demanding on the older rigs. I'm scared that I'm going to kill my gf's 360 lol.

I hope I can get it to run : (

I hope you clean every now and then.

If you haven't installing the play disc install it. If you have, uninstall it.

Wait, isn't that an oxymoron??Performance varies depending on xbox

Edit: not all xboxs are the same. I had to install it for the game to run smooth

Do you mean installing the play disc as well?

I only use the install disc. Still pretty slow

Yes. S

For some, installing the play disc improves performance, for others, it decreases it.

Yeah, I'd try this. If you have a HD and have the install stuff on one disc, try putting the play disc on a USB.

Also, this is getting more minute and I never did read into it to see if it effects 360s, but you may want to try different USB slots if you go that route. On some PCs, the front USB slots are weaker than back ones same with laptops between sides and backs and stuff. Again, I never looked into the 360s to see if they draw better read speeds. Actually, I'm not even sure what all USB slots the original models had. I just remember they changed them for the S.

There's also a chance if you have an older HD that it's going bad. HDs can last for a long time, but they will start running poorer over time especially when used quite a bit and not reformarted. My 360 HD is starting to do that a little as I bought the 4gb S model and stuck my 120 gb HD in it.

But yeah... I'd recommend investing (or saving up) for a One/PS4/PC rig that'll handle it. Once those old 360s act up, it's usually not a good sign. And it's cliche to say, but you should be happy you got 10 years out of the thing. I had two original models and both died (granted, one was Microsoft refurbed and the other was one someone gave me because it started to act up and I quickly discovered someone had home-fixed it once as they put way too much thermal paste on it)
