Will GTX 660 run GTA V on 60 FPS ?

Recommended Posts

battlefield 4 and V have very similar specs. if bf4 runs with a 660 smoothly at high specs then so will V

this dude has this with a 660:

I'm hoping to get 30 fps at medium settings with my gtx 660m you can sure do better with gtx 660 considering the level of optimization.

@ OP... If you or anyone else reading this thread has a GTX660 I wouldn't worry, I play GTA IV (and let's not forget how many people say how badly optimized this game is) with a GTX660 and an i5 4670k (granted this probably helps) at its highest possible settings, 1080p and I get a steady 55-70FPS even with plenty of graphical/general mods installed.

All these comments are pure speculation because no one really has a clue, including me.

I can 100% confirm that. I have a Gtx 660 and i5 3570k and be able to play Gta IV on highest settings smoothly and get around 60 Fps. Actually i play it with lots of mods and enb and locked it at 30 Fps, because of the bad optimization of the Game and it runs very good. But i must admit i overlocked my Cpu and Card.

I saved a bit of money to purchase a Gtx 970 4G in the near future in case V runs like sh*t on this system. :) We will see.

GTA IV wasn't a heavy game on your graphics card, but rather on your CPU. Based on requirements for GTA V, it's going to be more heavy on CPU than GPU as well, so i doubt many people will have performance issues because of their GPU's. It's the CPU's that are going to be the real struggle for people, since A LOT of the people who build their PC's put more money into the GPU's than CPU's, since most of the games are more heavy on GPU's than CPU's.

My bad. Absolutly correct. Thats not what i intend to say. I think a i5 3570k is powerfull enough to play the game smoothly. I want to play the game on ultra and a Gtx 660 is not powerfull enough for that. Forgot to say that.:) I meant in case its impossible to run V on gpu demanding settings.

I've taken this info from PC gamers website (They had a hands on review with it) and Rockstar quotes:

"According to Rockstar, the recommended specifications are based on hardware that can run the game at 1080p, at 60 frames-per-second. For that, Rockstar suggest a Nvidia GTX 660 2GB or AMD HD7870 2GB."

What about HD 7850?

What about HD 7850?

That's my GPU along with 8gb ram and an i5 3570k, so I could say I have about the same as the recommended if I OC the card a little. By R* words I should run the game at 1080p, 60fps on med-high. That's what I'm specting, nothing more, nothing less.

You better expect low-med ;)

then if you can go higher (I hope for you :) ) then it's a free gift / bonus

But people having a 660, please don't get your hype too high (about 1080 60FPS on HIGH), else you'll get disapointed ;)

I believe it would be very simmilar like in BF4, maybe like 5 fps less than what you can do in BF4. Seeing system specs of both games, recommended on BF4 is very same as on GTA V, i7 930 is simmilar to i5 3470, and then rest of requirements are same. HDD difference is not much big, 30 gb vs 65, well maybe its more than 50% bigger but 30gb is still big as hell.

Dont exactly expect stable 60 all the time, most likely 45-60 fps, on ultra 1080p, without MSAA and FXAA, i dont know if post anti aliasing is available like in BF4.

I have never seen a community downplay the capability of a graphics card this much!

Assuming this game reaches a reasonable level of optimization, the GTX 660 has the potential to play this game at 60FPS at 1080p, given your CPU isn't horrible and stuff like that.
It probably won't be the highest settings, but it will probably be able to play this game at 60FPS on some good settings.

I mean the GTX660 can run Battlefield 4 at 60FPS 1080p on primarily high settings! And Battlefield 4 is arguably the best looking game we've seen in a while.

Since we don't know exactly how GTA V performs, we can't say at exactly what settings the GTX660 will run this game at 60FPS 1080p... but I can assure you it will be able to run this game at 60FPS.

And people here are saying "720p and 60FPS if your CPU is good" LOL! 720p is a joke and almost any modern component (And by modern I mean stuff dating back to the GTX 2xx and 4xx series) can run most games at 60FPS 720p.

The GTX 660 would probably be able to run Battlefield 4 on ultra 60FPS if it was on 720p!

can you help me out and tell me what to put my settings on to run at 60fps on Grand Theft Auto V online because  I got ripped off on eBay I bought a GTX 660 and they sent me a GTX 460 twin frozr and I returned it and I got an Asus directcu II GTX 660 2GB and it's only running at 30 FPS and it's staying around 39° to 42°  and I need to know if I should return this one and get this MSI GTX 660 because I read somewhere that if it's running at 42° C then it's probably not working correctly can you please help me out my phone number is 574-931-5982 my name is Shawn, thank you

I had a GTX660 and it will run GTA V at 60fps, given that your CPU can keep up. Please tell us which CPU you got.

If it's running at a constant 30fps, make sure V-Sync is disabled everywhere. In game, and in the NVidia Control Panel. GTA V has a habit of syncing to 30fps whenever it falls below 60.

Also, do NOT use the settings from NVidia Geforce experience, that either aims for highest settings that will run 30fps V-Synced, or highest settings that fit into your VRam. It doesn't aim for 60.

As for settings, start on Normal with MSAA disabled, then raise them to High 1 by 1 (from top down) until it starts dropping below 60, then stop.

Keep Grass on Normal, and keep Anisotropic Filtering 16x
