MATCHMAKING gta: online

Recommended Posts

A possible long post and read - TL DR - whats so bad about the match making?

I would like to open up a discussion with the community about match making and why people think its SO BAD in gta online

I personally don't see the big deal and il explain why

when you are host, your invite gets sent to people for different reasons, friends, crew members, players in lobbies, players from last job etc....

I think the main thing here is having actual players to play with (beggars can't be choosers) obviously if people get these invites they will be at different levels...they join, you play, big deal right?

Would you rather the game only sent invites to players of a similar level? or blocked players that are too far from your level from joining? or would you rather just play that deathmatch that needs 6 people to start and have been waiting 5mins to begin?

Its hard enough getting your race, parachute, or capture job full with different levels let alone players with a similar level to you, why would you wanna filter that further? why does this bother every1 so much, how does it ruin the game?

only reason I can think of is if you are a low level and are scared of playing with high levels

OR

you are a high level and are scared of being kicked from a job with low levels

I got this game late so every1 was higher than me, it never put me off or stopped me playing and having fun so I would like to knw why match making is such a problem for a lot of players

Im sure match making priorities are to gather similar level players but if not then just add any1, I guess Id rather play and it be challenging than not play..

does the match making really need "fixing" ?

please don't come with rudeness if you don't agree with my opinion

mature discussions please

Not fixing, redo is a better term.

Why the hell can't this be like other games where you get matched with people looking to play the same you want and the host/leader is the one with the best connection? Why the game has the option to make a deathmatch last an hour and eventually screw me instead of the regular stuff? If I want to play an hour I better create a private session. And this is how this game feels: actually the matching system is all by private sessions, not matchmaking at all.

Why Rockstar made this lame system? Because they wanted to be revolutionary by using the whole phone thing like if someone was texting me to join a job, but yeah... I don't like looking for my friend's lobby and see 19 invites for activities that if I join they will be in course. The lack of actual lobbies to select the type of game you want or even (if there was, for example) friendly lobbies is a pathetic attemp from Rockstar to make the game dynamic so you don't stop playing while trying to join something.

But that's not dynamic at all. I understand the effort and the idea but it simply doesn't work. I rather a finding screen where I get in a full lobby with people ready to play than waiting 20 minutes to someone to join and leave because waiting a bit for someone else is too much.

And yes, the matchmaking should be fair. If you start a new character you won't be matched with low levels, you can spawn near a level 300 and trying to start the Cypress LTS is going to end in you agaisnt a level 100+ who is going to rape you since he has full health and armor and shooting skill while you'll be sh*tting a lung from running.

The matchmaking has been this bad before. We just have to wait till rockstar fixes it again

is the issue getting ANY players or similar skilled players?Any players. I don't think rockstar was prepared for the large influx of players when heists released.

I don't think the matchmaking is bad for missions, captures, LTS, death match, survival, etc.

It is only terrible for heists. And only because your game is invite only. If you area loner and have no friends online, you can easily be waiting 30 mins to do a set up and get no money because you are host. Or if your hosting the heist, you waste longer again retrying because the demo guy is inside the prison etc until someone inevitably quits, and you still see no profits.

Inviting randoms to your game, who you do not know, don't know their skill level, and don't even know if they want to play a heist at all, all sums up to inviting a whole load of people, who will on mass ignore the invite because they are doing something more fun than waiting in a lobby. Or you get low levels wanting to leech a whole lot of money because they are peasants.

We are not just talking about in missions but also in free roam aswell. If your in aito aim you won't notice it as much as free aim players

Note: my post is mostly bitching about skill-based matchmaking.

Would you rather the game only sent invites to players of a similar level? or blocked players that are too far from your level from joining? or would you rather just play that deathmatch that needs 6 people to start and have been waiting 5mins to begin?

only reason I can think of is if you are a low level and are scared of playing with high levels

OR

you are a high level and are scared of being kicked from a job with low levels

In terms of skill I've reached a point where it's nearly impossible to find a player who's better than me in raw skill (I'm not talking about corner camping with the BP helmet + auto shotgun) and because of that I mostly get thrown into unbalanced 2vs3, 3vs4 etc matches where my opponents either do the camping, which just drags the game to a full stop or my opponents don't even understand how to roll or switch weapons.

My days are busy, as someone who's on his way to becoming a Front-End developer and when I get free time, I want to have a fun match against opponents of equal, the kind of opponents that make my hands sweat with excitement ("We need 2 kills to win, they need 3, 30 seconds on the clock, how is this gonna end?!") instead of a bunch of punks who won't move a muscle out of their sweet auto-shotty spot. It's just no fun whatsoever.

I'm not even going to mention how terrible I feel when my opponents are levels 200+ and 30- and the 200+ guy ends up quitting because I can lob grenades into his hole, leaving the lower level guy to fight against 3 people.

In the end, yes, I'd very much prefer it if the game sent invites to people of similar level (if by level you meant skill, not the silly RP level) rather than anyone. If it can't get a game going then no big deal, I'd rather then just play something else and have fun rather than sit in some boring game where, instead of aiming for first place, I'm thinking of what I should eat for dinner.

Sidenote: another thing I despise (not a matchmaking thing, general balance) is the stats system. I'm fine with having it in Free Roam, but in competitive matches it should be removed and have everyone with the exact same stats. I can't enjoy most of the game modes on offer because my friends don't enjoy the unbalanced play, where I can take x2 more hits than they can. It ends up being frustrating for both sides, because a) they have a hard time killing me compared to no problem for me and b) all I can do is sit in silence because saying "oh just go level up to 100 to get the full experience, no big deal" would just make me sound like a prick.

For reference I'm currently a Lv105 on my 3rd character and I've been playing since GTAV/Online launched on PS3.

I probably lost my train of thought somewhere while typing that, but it just makes sense in my head, so sorry if something sounds off, I rarely do long posts!

It's bad because it doesn't work and has constant connection errors. It's bad because there are no filters for QuickJobs, such as player created or Rockstar content, race type, vehicle type, death match weapon type or map, it's bad because when you join death match with friends and/or crew it puts you on opposite teams, it's just so unbelievably bad in every way. Sometimes you wait forever and no one joins cause your invites don't get received, sometimes you start and half the players drop due to sh*t net code, and about a billion other reasons but I think you get the idea.

interesting post AEMBER unfortunately tho there is no way of judging raw skill

but still you would rather not play than be in an unbalanced lobby?

fair enough, at least you put time into your post without being rude....I appreciate your input and opinion

how would you have it work btw?

connection issues are not match making and you can choose teams....I dont know if preferences is match making either but it would be a nice option

my point is more to do with match making with regard to low levels and high level players.....sorry should have been clearer

As a player since day one of last gen, I can tell you GTA Online's matchmaking is bad for everything. 3 of my friends and I are in a lobby for team deathmatch (we're also in a crew), and we get split onto different teams despite having an even number of players in the lobby. I set up a lobby for a capture and no one ever joins. On the rare occasion that I get one or two other players, they leave after a minute passing and no one else joining. In the entire year plus that I've played this game, I've only hosted a fully lobby once.

Heists are just as bad. Auto invite, nothing, skilled matched players, nothing.

It's terrible. Red Dead Redemption was so much better.

Hear Hear.

Matchmaking for Heists should hopefully allow most people to finally see how bad Matchmaking really is for people who play Jobs constantly.

Worst matchmaking I've seen in any game. Quick job is useless, it has no filters, it isn't quick most of the time, they force you to go On Call. The fact that only the host can invite people is a joke, why can't other people in the lobby send invites? They constantly put low levels against high levels, and split up crew members by putting them on different teams. The matchmaking doesn't care about matching you with people closer to your location, I've had Americans, Japanese and Russians in the same lobby as me before and I'm in the UK. There just isn't a single good thing about the matchmaking in GTA:Online, so yes they do need to fix it.

Host can set it so the people can invite people, but it has to be set before someone joins

I've played many other games and I've never had as many problems matchmaking as in gtao.

First the matching is only in your lobby, which is dumb cuz not everyone in the lobby wants to join, and only when that person declines does the search expand.

Also there is no ' looking for group' chat which is the most effective way to make groups, works in every other MMO game around..

So ya, I think the matchmaking sucks, I hate waiting hours doing nothing but searching for groups..

i think Heists are an exception to match making, I mean, how many times have you joined a random? people wanna play with people they can trust, also some people are still doing the challenges like all in order, same team etc so they don't wanna mess that up

maybe I have the wrong idea how match making actually works, would some1 who knows for 100% care to enlighten?
