Cops 'n Crooks could really happen now...

Recommended Posts

We have the Police uniform now. We could now have a passenger jet (Luxor) be a getaway vehicle now along with the traditional Maverick helicopter and boat.

- All For One: Cops try to kill the "Boss" while the Crooks defend the boss and escort them to the 'Getaway'. (Unlimited lives for both teams)

- One For All: Cops try to kill the Crooks going to the 'Getaway'. No "Boss". (Each side has only 1 life per player, once you die, you spectate)

Hopefully, we don't have the occasional noob blowing up the 'Getaway Vehicle'. Besides that, this is one legendary game mode.

Really surprised its not yet in-game as it was arguably one of the best modes in GTA IV. I'm hoping now that heists are out we get some more new game modes, Adversary is good fun :)

Crimson Flam3s

A shame Cops and Crooks hasn't made an appearance yet. The mode is actually in the gtaonline files and it was gonna be really interesting. Ability to arrest crooks/boss, use stun gun, police station with garage and outfits plus custom vehicle.

Maybe it got cancelled to focus on heists or it will be released on a new dlc. I'm hoping these adversary modes is the beginning of more CnC/TMW type of modes, since they are easily better than anything gtao offers atm.

10,000 or so of us have petitioned on change.org for what it's worth, I don't think rockstar are paying attention but there is a likelihood they would release something so popular from previous GTA incarnations - maybe even better. Who knows, perhaps a Adversary Mode creator would satisfy a hole range of possibilities.

GTA:O should adopt the Battlefield Hardline philosophy that players cannot carry heavy weapons on them, they must be found and picked up and are a one time use weapon.

That is the only way Cops and Crooks will be any fun.

They can easily modify the actual gamemode to make it this way. Just look at how the adversary modes are handled, specific teams are assigned specific weapons for certain matches.

Cops could be given pistols/shotguns while crooks could be given Uzis, sawed off, and pistols.

If anyone has played the cops and robbers mode in Kane & Lynch 2 that would be good. Crooks running with duffel bags & money flying out.

Adversary mode is 1 step closer. If there was a way to force outfits for capture creator we could make it ourselves.

I loved the undercover cop mode in Kane & Lynch 2.

Cops and crooks does need to happen.

Agreed, but there's still something very satisfying about a perfectly timed grenade or RPG... We just don't want them to be spammed.

If we are given an Adversary mode creator, cops and crooks will be one of the first things made. The formula is there, just a tweak to spawn vehicles, destination, weapons and boom cops and crooks.

I was quite disappointed to see that it wasn't included in the adversary modes after they described them.

There are already a few capture mode cops n crooks jobs, but they require all players to follow rules which cannot be enforced in order for it to work correctly.

If players DO follow the rules, it's a ton of fun and feels just like cops n crooks.

It's seem like everything is there but the implementation. Police station, cells, cuffs, attire, vehicles.

There were rumours it would be included with Heists, but perhaps Rockstar wanted to separate the two updates because the Cops vs Crooks mode is more sophisticated than first intended.

Really excited to see what unfolds in the next few months.

Crimson Flam3s

It would be extremely simple for them to add at least the classic mode back. Blows my mind why they haven't done it yet. Seems like it might come in a bigger update or maybe as a new mode along the sp dlc.

It won't matter though, if the matchmaking isn't fixed, then not even CnC can save online.

Cops n crooks just wouldn't suit GTAV in my opinion mainly for two reasons. The first is cars in V are much faster than IV, even though Los Santos is bigger than Liberty City the fact that the cars are faster and much easier to drive makes the city feel small while not on foot. Unless cops and crooks used the whole map I'd imagine the crooks would get away the majority of the time if it was kept to the city.

The second reason is Los Santos isn't as dense as Liberty City, LC was a maze like concrete jungle which made cat and mouse chases much more interesting as there were more roads and side roads to lose the opposition in. With Los Santos the roads are much bigger meaning there's less roads which means there would be less options to give the police the slip. The Crooks success would only come down to whether or not they crash while driving down straights in comparison to IV where a successful crook would have to be good at outsmarting and out manuvering the cops aswell as avoiding crashing.

There's a versus mission already in the game which is pretty much cops and crooks (One team has to get to the getaway all the way on the otherside of the map) and the few times I managed to get a enough people to play it, it didn't really work.

I disagree, I feel like there's lots of ways CnC could work in GTAO. For simplicity's sake I'll just give the bullet points.

No personal vehicles. Crooks get mid range sedans/suvs/bikes at start. Crooks can steal any car en route to rendezvous. Crooks locations on map pinged every 30 seconds. Spawns with pistol, sawn off, uzi.

Cops get interceptors & a maverick. Maverick comes equipped with police spot light. Keeping maverick above/spotlight on crooks reveals them on map. Spawns with ap pistol, shotgun, mp5. As crooks kill cops, cops gain access to better hardware (carbines, riot vans etc).

Various spots/shelters around city/countryside with heavy weapons (assault rifles, LMGs, RPGs, etc), lower tier supercars, and armor for crooks. Optional.

Multiple areas from which crooks can escape. If every time they had to go to airstrip/helipad/dock "A" then the cops could just race to "A" and camp it. By randomizing it the cops have to go for the crooks.

Cops can respawn at the many police stations in LS/SA. Allows for disruption of crooks who have eluded the rest of the cops.

Plenty of alleys for crooks to use to dodge the cops. Plenty of verticality for crooks to get onto roofs and out run cops that way.

Some nice ideas but once again the problem is that the crooks would escape too quickly, if their position was pinged every 30 seconds you would only see them on the map 3 or 4 times tops before they reached their destination. Even with sedans you can get from one side of the city to another pretty quickly it's says allot that they only give runners pedal bikes in hasta la vista to make it balanced enough to give the truck drivers a chance to intercept when the movie scene that the mode is based on features motor bikes.

The only way I can see it being balanced enough is if it takes elements of siege mentality with the crooks escaping on foot (like three leaf clover) with micro smgs while the cops continuously respawn at police stations across Los Santos with pistols or shotguns. The crooks positions could be revealed within small circles in the map displaying their general locations the more noise they make the smaller the circle becomes which will make their position easier to pinpoint.

If the issue is that it's too easy for the crooks to escape then there's a lot of ways R* could address that.

Maybe they have multiple objectives (go to point a, b, collect c, drive to d). Maybe there's a police station between the crooks' spawn and and the way point. Maybe the crooks need to first escape an area on foot.

Regarding the density (or lack thereof) of Los Santos, I still think you're making a bigger issue out of it than it really is. The size & spaciousness of the city just means the chase is gonna feel "different" is all. Compare The French Connection & Bullitt & Drive. Between Los. Santos's many alleys and overpasses and parking garages, there's ample opportunity for sneaky tactics to be employed.

But it could be the case that I'm a little biased, I'll admit. I live in Los Angeles & all the police chases we see on the news look pretty fun. Good call on the crook search radius too.

& to the other person asking why people care about CnC: it was the best mode in GTAIV & arguably best captures the spirit of the GTA games (bad guys v police = open world cat & mouse)
