Why is there no car damage?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else notice they took out car damage in both online and story mode? Yeah they can get scratched up and break windows, but in story mode can you no longer smash a car to the point the wheels can't Spin/fall off. In online you can't smash the car so bad it does not drive straight. You cannot even put a dent in them. Come on rockstar give us are freakin damage back this is stupid.

Totallycasual

Maybe its to do with deformation obscuring peoples driving view when in first person mode?

I'm in two minds on the whole topic, while i do miss GTAIV's level of car destruction and my deaths from flying through the windscreen i have to admit when all things are considered i seem to be happier with V overall :)

Could you imagine not having any damage sustained to your car in a video game? :panic:

There are many games like that, actually. I much prefer dynamic deformation of vehicles over smashing my car into a wall and backing up with only broken headlights.

Don't think I'm too familiar with these type of games, could you name of couple of titles tho?

I'm quite surprised by these replies, can't believe people want to take the series backwards.

That sounds terrific! Means that I can keep my cars in tip top condition.

Yeah sounds like the best glitch ever op.

If you want realism take a metal bat to your car IRL.

A good bit of the Driver series, Forza, Gran Turismo, sleeping dogs, Watch Dogs, these are all examples of games lacking Dynamic deformation. True, the cars DO get damaged, but in boring predictible GTA III era ways.

I really hate the lack of dynamic deformation in racing games and it just doesn't feel right, in games such as Forza you do ur best not to crash and keep ur car in the best condition.

I can't understand why more people doesn't comment on this! The car damage is non-existent on PS4 after heists. I was driving my 100% armored EntityXF and tried to ram an Asea for 4 minutes, its doors fell of just like in GTA 3 but not ANY DAMAGE to the car frame. What the hell have you done R*?!! Bring back damage physics from GTA IV where the car parts doesn't fall off like in some 10 year old game.

I just put this to test on last gen.

Stock Futo found on the side of the road, 30 hits with a baseball bat to the area around the right front wheel:

What I did notice though that this barely affected the handling.. Very slight deviation to the right. Nothing else.

I guess what they could have done is, they've toned down the modifiers, especially those affecting the penalty on handling. What can I say, sadly stuff like this is "2015", everything is stripped and dumbed down to the very basic level to make stuff appealing to the major audience. In return there's no more black and white, only a handful of shades of gray.

Believe it or not, modern youngsters want things to be this way. It's obvious isn't it, after all, the gaming industry has to follow modern trends to stay on the nerve of time. Otherwise they'd go out of business.
