What's the point of MASKS?

There are times I forget to press left to put it on or I take it off in the middle of the heist. So the masks really have no purpose other than immersion. They should really adopt the system that RDR had in place. If you commit a crime with it off it'll be harder to escape the cops. And they will harass you more. If you do your job with it on and when it comes time to escape it should make your life easier when you take the mask off by downgrading your stars to 1. Same with if it's just bad guys chasing you and you escape their sight.

Only time I see that actually needs masks is Fleeca bank. The doors don't unlock unless you have masks.

Well think of it this way, rockstar gave us like 50 new masks. Now I would rather them put in a useless feature with a bunch of additions than nothing at all.

The ones you wear during the heists are free... except for the leader, who paid for them as part of the start-up cost. They're only expensive to you if you want to wear them outside of heists.

Am I the only one who finds masks useful? Going from 3 stars to 2 stars is a big deal...no helicopters for a start. Plus they look good! AND now they have finally added a little animation when putting them on...although I reckon it should still be worked on with a removal animation also.

...and every so often, glitch someone's character so they look like a meth addict, apparently.

Could have at least made it so that being seen without one in certain undercover missions, you'd be hit with an insta-fail - IIRC, there's no penalty for not wearing one at the moment (?).

In-game, if you've a wanted level and the stars are flashing and cops are looking for you, it actually removes one star when you take off the mask or switch to glasses, making it easier to get away from the cops. Sort of like hiding your identity (duh).

It can be a huge help, really speeds up lossing your wanted level

They do serve a purpose. Lets say you have a mask on and you have 5 stars. When the stars start blinking, remove your mask and your wanted level will go down to 4 stars.

Wait does removing the mask work to remove wanted level in missions/heists too? I knew about it (albeit not until a couple weeks ago) but assumed it was only free roam.

Masks are useless anyways if you're showing off your tattoos. They can identify you easily.

 

I try to make Heists more fun by covering all my character's tattoos up and wear a mask so he can't get tracked down.

early in gtao i tryed and the wanted level never dropped so i simply keep robbing stores without mask.

Obviously for novelty reasons. As if you'd go as strap police tape around your face and then go rob a bank. Just a bit of fun.
