what gta online mission you thought was poorly designed?

Recommended Posts

today i was playing the mission chopper trail and it was a pain to play because you can't always find the chopper, and when you do and try to follow it (in my case i tried but failed 4 times to follow the yellow gps trail to meth lab), only to find out there was a timer that was never shown on screen!

i tried to play this mission to make a little extra cash.

Rooftop Rumble is just a mess now. It was just fine before, but since they tried to beef it up, it lost all narrative. What's the point in shooting up the lot when the guy with the documents just pops up in the middle of the road? Even before the update, what the hell did the mission have to do with rooftops?

High Priority Case. It tells you to get a helicopter and fly to the top of a building, but it's a low-level mission that opens before some players even have access to helicopters (and conveniently, none are spawned anywhere for you during the mission). So if you've just unlocked it you can't complete it, unless you have a higher-level friend to help you.

If you're low level you climb the crane or call merryweather for a helicopter.

There a quite a few poorly designed missions really. I get the feeling that they didn't get as much play testing and polish as the single player missions. Some of them feel kind of ameturish.

A lot of them have no particular reasoning behind what you are doing, rooftop rumble in it's current state is one of the best examples. Why shoot up the garage only for the documents to magically appear driving down the road?

Some missions give little instruction as to what you are supposed to be doing, sometimes the only way to find out what to do is to fail and try a different way next time. Like the Los Santos Connection where you suddenly have to chase down a plane at the end with no warning, if you aren't ready with a buzzard you will probably fail. Very annoying after a long and difficult mission.

Others can be exploited to finish them easily, Potshot is a good example of this, you just wait on the bridge for the van and skip the fight at the weed farm. It originally had a large payout for such a simple mission, which probably means that rockstar intended us to shoot our way through the weed farm rather than waiting for the van do drive into us.

Then there are a couple of missions that open before you have the equipment to do them. There is at least one mission that requires a helicopter but refuses to spawn one anywhere on the map (why?). It doesn't say that the player needs to own a heli before starting it and opens fairly early on so most players trying it probably didn't own one and got stuck.

Plus there are those missions that constantly spawn enemies until you complete them. They just constantly appear from nowhere in a couple of set spawning locations as soon as you turn your back.

And there are a couple of missions that you can play solo but are basically impossible to complete solo. They have you try to hack a safe or garage door whilst fending off constantly spawning enemies. It's impossible solo as you just get killed whilst playing the hacking minigame if you don't have another player to defend you. There are also some missions that can't be played solo but would probably be possible to complete on your own.

And there are some weird design choices too. The Lost MC RIP mission has you drive to the side gate of the graveyard and kill all the lost. If you try to be clever and drive up the hill to snipe them without first going to the side gate you get the failure message 'mission failed: a lost was killed'. Isn't that what you were supposed to be doing!?

I do like the missions really, and once you learn them they get less frustrating, but they really could have had more testing and polish.

Except Merryweather doesn't unlock until lvl 30 and most people don't even know about the crane. or how to even get up it.

GTA Today, It Takes A Thief, Pickup sticks, Denial of Service, Gentry Does it, Richmen In Richman, Ticket to Elysium, Going down the GOH, Landing Gear, Landing Strip, Docks to Stock, Docks to Stock II, Extradition. (Not poorly designed, just some missions I absolutely hate and a waste of time)

The ones were you set the difficulty to hard and get less than 20k because you finished it in a timely manner instead of waiting, like idiots do knowing you can do the same mission again in the same amount of time and make more money.

Yeah. When me and my friends did this mission the first time, we had to have 2 guys wait on the ground in a car, 2 guys climbed the crane and parachuted onto the building. We had to kill everyone, take the package and then whoever took it needed to jump off the building and commit suicide, and the guys in the car needed to pickup the case and drive it to lesters. It was a hell of a process.

It feels like none of the missions live up to the heists. Some people have their own problem with the heists but my problem is they're what I like doing the most now and I hope rockstar can change that by adding more quality missions having learned from the success of heists.

Rooftop Rumble has been a mess from the start, but instead of lowering the payout and changing the name the devs decided to see just how much of a cluster f*ck they could turn it into with each update.

High Priority Case is also a head scratcher. It's fairly low level so you probably don't hsve 700k for a chopper. There's no alternate way onto the roof outside the cranes which don't seem to have been intended for that, chopper spawns are disabled outside of a super rare random encounter at the marina, and lester is disabled so even if you had his helicopter ability unlocked it doesn't work.

I'd say most of the simeon missions are pretty stupid from a conceptual standpoint as well

Heists!

1. Why it must be always (fleeca excluding) 4 people, why? In all heist missions (setups and finales), there were about 30% or less that could convince me that yes indeed, 4 ppl job here. I only have 2 mates playing this, so we're always 1 short and it's a pain waiting for that 4th guy, and even more of a pain to get a 4th random that won't quit after 1 failure or during the mission. Why mission must immediatelly fail if one ARSE decides to quit? Sending you back in freemode. Also if one doesn't like their cut (and there are lots of randoms who just walk in for the cake without doing any setups, basically free money, not happy with 10%-15%, 70-150k, or straight up demanding 25%) and leaves during the board section, freemode again. That IS bad design.

2. Can't use equipment ever. So you have thet buzzard you spent 1.75 mil and there are situations it would come in real useful, or a simple pickup by merryweather heli or your own unarmed? Nope? That new insurgent you unlocked? Nope. Nope. Nope. Besides that or to add to that, everything is so heavily "scripted", you can't really use your imagination much, it doesn't feel like a GTA. Alright, let's do this "scripted" first time you do the mission, how about allowing to actually use the stuff you buy, once you done them all once?

3. The stuff you actually do in preparation, compared to actual take is beyond ridiculous. Now for that I have no better solution, not crying for more money here, but it all comes to point 2 above. We have to take unvieldy military track around alamo sea while constantly shot at by merryweather only to get 1 briefcase from the back? How about we'd take it from the truck to becin with and then use our imagination to deliver it, with our cars or why not helicopters or anything, or how about we listen to Lester's advice and "levitate" the truck from there? But nope, can't do that. Why can't I use my car in which I parked just outside the bank in final heist, why must we go through the alleyways, **** lectro!

4. Why is there only two actual bank robberies, seriously :D

I could go on, but enough :)

^ To be fair about Pegasus vehicles, you're robbing high-security areas. Making a call on a cell phone is a good way for agencies and the police to track you down. It's logical to go incognito, hence the reason why our characters wear those headsets... Thought that was pretty obvious.

I don't think that's the reason why Pegasus vehicles are restricted. It's probably just so you'd have to actually work together in a mission, instead of calling in a Buzzard or a Rhino to do the work for you.

That's the biggest reason, you're right. Last thing R* really wants is a player being able to use a Hydra or the Savage for the Prison Break. Even with those at our disposal, they would still be a liability with their chance of destroying sensitive objectives if those vehicles are used by reckless players.

Having done that mission many, many times; I don't even bother waiting and looking for the chopper. I take off to the meth lab as soon as I get in the Buggy. It's pretty easy to memorize where it is too. By the time the chopper lands, most of the cops are pretty much gunned down. One of my favorite missions I'd say.

Hence the mission being poorly designed, you should spawn at the Marina next to a helicopter OR they could have that orange construction elevator on the side of the building actually work.

Not to mention you might as well pull your pants down and bend over on hard, because they will f*ck you up. The last length of that ladder is almost completely exposed, IIRC, and you have negligible cover. For a low level without max health and armor, you'd have to be a heavy duty badass to handle it.

WhiteFishyStick

I have to say I don't meet much of "trigger happy" buzzard owners, usually I'm the one deploying one where it is useful, and I don't have a habit of destroying stuff you're not supposed to, but yes, not everyone understands that you don't actually need to fire the rocket every time it's locked onto something.

Masks aren't needed either, everytime I use custom outfits, I lack a mask, unless it's scripted (night vision in humane and final bank robbery comes to mind). And how about leaving those supercars just outside the bank? Not enought to track us down? :) About robbing high-security areas, I agree to extend, yet we jack a damn hydra off aircraft carrier, jack valkyrie etc. leaving our super cars behind. It's a GTA after all :)

I don't see how hydra or savage would help in prison brake, so only partly agree here. After all you are given a buzzard, in fact why can't I use same savage if I have one? What does it matter? Why can't I use cargobob to try and "levitate" away that truck on the bridge, I see lots of failures and laughs or frustration depending on situation and who you playing with, but it's an option, an option you could try and FAIL, option nontheless. I like options :) Reckless players will find a way to be reckless regardless of that, trust me, I've seen some crap :D
