OysterBarron

First console I owned was a SNES, my father had a pong console since I was born and his friend also lent us his Amiga at some point. So my first console experience was playing pong what a classic.

Who remembers having to buy your video games and accessories from Toys R Us, when video games were simply just "toys for kids"? They used to have all the consoles behind a glass shelf with the games in an aisle full of ticket vouchers. When you wanted to purchase a game or console, you had to take the ticket to the counter, pay for it, and then pick it up from a separate counter upon leaving.

I'm pretty sure it was this way all the way from my purchase of NES to the release of the Dreamcast. I think they stopped doing this by the time the Xbox 360 and PS3 came out.

I remember having a super Nintendo when I was a small child. It was my dads though. First I ever got was the N64 as a Christmas gift. Legitimately stoked too because my dad was a single parent and he must've really worked for that. First I ever bought brand new myself was the Xbox one.

Intelevision.934175intellivision1.jpg

f*cking hated it. It almost turned me off gaming forever.

So does that mean you don't want to buy one of mine with a near complete library of games in their boxes with all overlays and instructions?

Sorry for double post. Excuse = I'm being tablet lazy.

Davo the Assassin

My parents bought my brother an N64 on credit. By far the coolest thing ever.

Except for the fact that neither my brother or I could figure how to get to levels in Super Mario 64 (Jumping through the paintings) so our mum had to figure it out whilst we were at school. Which in itself was an impressive feat considering she didn't know how to game any more than we did!

Commander S

First one I owned personally, rather than technically being the 'family' machine? 2009 Xbox 360 'Elite' model:

Still have it, never bricked on me once, although I retired it last year when I got my Xbone. Before then, I mainly mooched off my siblings' consoles (PS2, GameCube, N64), or just stuck to using the family PC.

First household gaming machine, though? One of these bad boys, hooked up to an aging black-and-white telly and (I sh*t thee not), a cassette deck:

Vintage BBC micro - and home to one of the most frustrating flight sims I've ever played, plus some really bare-bones stuff, like one where you have to do grocery shopping without over-spending, or missing the bus home. No, I'm not making that up - it's like the video game equivalent of this:
