Heist failure stories

This is, in fact, my exact point about the cuts. We're all in this for money, everyone's time is valuable. By incentivising the crew with a bigger cut, they have a reason to do their best, work hard and be resilient (ie not quit the second something goes wrong). Fewer restarts + less quitting = more money in your pocket. Money is why we're here, right? Certainly not because we just love jogging thru mantraps 20 times a day.

The thing with 15% cuts is that it means a crew member will make pretty much the same amount regardless of approach or target - roughly $250K on average. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less, but on average, yeah? That being the case, said crew member has no reason to value one heist over another. There is zero incentive to stick around for restarts, or 'lost cause' runs (eg the vault alarm is triggered, Duggan prep not done, you're armed only with pistols and harsh language), or any adversity at all (eg launching from Paleto or the take getting reduced too much). Since there's a cooldown, you want your one shot per hour to be a good one. If it goes bad, it is no skin of your nose to bail and join a new heist, whereas the host is now sitting on the side of a road somewhere, probably muttering about "f*cking randoms".

To put it another way: you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Here's what 15% buys from me: I will do my very best in the vault and do 1 restart. That's it. I will not drive, I will not carry the fights nor lead the way. If the host hasn't done some critical prep, like keycards, I'm out. If Duggan prep isn't done and an alarm goes off, I'm out. If the host or other crew start f*cking around in any way whatsoever, I'm out. Bluntly, this had better be a goddamn perfect run so as to make it worth my while. Otherwise, well, a better gig is just a loading screen away...

Conversely, here's what 20% gets you: I will bring my A game. I will utterly crush whatever task falls to me, from awesome driving to lightning hacks to precision mass murder. I will relentlessly drive the success of the heist. I will not be the one to quit outside of lost causes (as above).

Why? Why does 5% make such a difference to me? It's not a greed thing - I'm so rich at this point that if a million bucks was deleted from my account I doubt I'd even notice. It's the principle, folks. As I've always said, it's not about the money, it's about the principle. Pay me like I'm an employee, you get an employee: minimum wage gets minimum effort. Pay me like a partner and I will throw the crew over my shoulder and run to Paleto if that's what it takes.

Plus, give me a decent cut, maybe I have a heist ready to go and bring you. Maybe I remember your generosity and am happy to come with you on your next one, so that's one less random to worry about. Maybe we start doing this on the regular, crush the DCH so hard we make All The Money.

So many reasons to give more than 15%. Hell, when you look at it this way, 15% almost looks like shortsighted greed.

Not to make a cliché'd forum post, but this. I couldn't have said it better myself. In particular about the location of arcade and prep work.

I mentioned before that I got hit with 15%, cash, 2 people, Paleto Bay arcade. Didn't speak when I tried to say hello. When he started driving he said, "you hack ok". I just thought nah. I'm not arrogant, and I don't hard quit, but this was just a snatch and grab with me as the grafter. I think not, and as you say, it's the principle.

Its not arrogance when I say I know what I am doing, across the spectrum. Killing, stealth, speed, looting, hacking, evading, driving. Both with friends, strangers, communication, no communication. I think when you first enter a DCH you know almost straight away how it's going to go. You could reserve judgement and give it 1 more try when it inevitably goes horribly wrong, but you just know.

As you say, a better opportunity is just a couple of loading screens away, so you are absolutely spot on in that regard.

Edit: I began typing this post an hour ago, and since then, I haven't even started 1 single heist from putting myself on call. Constantly kicked, or heist leader left. Sigh.

OMFG, right? I know the "leader left" is sometimes a bug, as it's happened to me when I certainly did not leave. The kicking, tho... jesus horatio christ it's bad.

Back to cuts and principle, just did a 2-man Big Con. P&W Entry, no keycards. Normally that would be my cue to dashboard; however, the host gave me 40%. So, long story short, told him the run wasn't going to work, went back to freemode with him, redid Scope Out & got him Gruppe6 plus all entry points, including the roof. Did L2 Keycards. Did Gruppe6 preps. Went back and crushed the heist. Why did I, Hater of Noobs, Scourge of Rookies, do this? Because he knew he needed help, wasn't ashamed to admit it and was prepared to pay to be carried (or guided, if you want to sound less assholey about it). Players like that deserve our very best efforts.

Amen to @God-eater

High level players should stop doing the old heists for free (in before Rockstar patching it and setting 15% as the absolute minimum)

No matter how much money you have, you should not heist for free, it is damaging to the community, because randoms think they can get away with giving everyone 10%, or take 70% every time.

I don't take 15% because I need anything, I take 15% because I value my time, and so should the host.

If you work for free, people won't value your time.

I think I am done with the Casino Hesit for now, at least on weekends. It's around 7 hours now I've put myself on call to do them and I have completed one. It's either been kicked, heist leader left, or mindless kids who literally don't have an absolute clue about what to do.

No bud, PS5.

And to add insult to injury, I started my own aggressive heist with 2 other randomers. Went well until I got the black loading screen after exiting the staff lobby. No NOOSE cutscene. This game can royally go and f**k itself after today.

HauntingHydra_27

I remember when I got the invite to a random's Humane Labs Raid. All goes well, driving from Eclipse Towers until we get to the Valkyrie. I knew what to expect, since I had completed the heist multiple times before. This particular time, I was part of the Ground Team. We take off, flying towards Humane Labs. However, when we get there, the other ground team guy jumps from the Valkyrie prematurely, completely ignoring the objective marker we are supposed to be flying towards. Right after, the pilot decides to land the chopper right inside the complex. We fail, and fail again, and fail again. Each time the same mistakes are made. The fourth time, the pilot just crashes into the Alamo Sea.

I leave, out of frustration.

Another one. I accept an invite to a random's Fleeca Job. I offer to be the Driller/Hacker for this heist, however the host insists he will do better. It takes him about 10 minutes to complete the hacking minigame. It takes him another 10 minutes to drill into the safety deposit box. Needless to say, we most definitely did not complete the heist in under the time limit required for the elite challenge.

Not sure if this belongs in "Heist Failure Stories" or "B&M" but here's my story.

I wanted to help a random rank 74 with his Humane Labs Raid's Hydra setup because I was bored, the entire crew (ranks 74, 53, 36) said to me "you can't fly the Hydra because you don't know how to and you don't own one" (even though I didn't even ask but that's okay). Than they said I don't need a cut at all from the finale before failing to spawn-kill me in free mode, which is what made me do what I did because I would have helped with the other setups if they asked nicely. At least they met my rank 306 character's personal hydra in free mode before they left me to my own grinding session.

I genuinely hate those kids, they get the game from a fortnite lootcrate a few months ago and assume everybody higher level then them is a cheater, how about you f- off back to your battle royale games instead of telling me im not worthy of a paycheck?

So what i guess im saying is i feel you and i would've done the same, i have all the time in the world for noobs (we've all been there) but no time or respect for noobs who assume everybody else cheats.

Not sure either, I'd post it in both.

They don't want a random in the Hydra? Fine, it's their party, I don't care who flies it.

But the sheer arrogance to assume a high level player doesn't need the money and will just heist for free, makes me want to quit.

Do I need the money? No. Do I need to carry greedy n00bs through heist finales for free? No. And that's why I take 15%.

They just don't understand (both the greedy hosts, and the high levels that will actually heist for free, enabling the greedy hosts)

I hope Rockstar will lock the minimum cut for the OG heists to 15% soon.

On the greedy hosts topic: just helped someone with couple of Prison Break set-ups and he gave everybody (the same crew for those set-ups) 10% for the Finale. I told him "Nope" and the other ones followed (they were low level). He gave us 20% each, was about to tell him to cut me 15%, but after what he did I just shut my mouth. He didn't liked the number and changed it back to 10% for all of us, cause "I need money, bro". Wished him good luck finding someone to play with and went on with my life.

FN greedy moron.

His first mistake was investing his time into Prison Break.

Low ranks usually can't fly aircraft @Lance Mayhem If you ask me, Demolition is the easiest, but if you can't land the chopper at the end, thanks for the time wasted.

Shoutout to all the low ranks who think you land a helicopter while going full tilt sideways and holding the descend trigger, smashing it into the ground and proceed to keep full tilt sideways and swapping over to the ascend trigger, dragging it along the ground for about 300 feet into the nearest wall blowing it up.

Just mugged two pedestrians. Got $65.

Which is more money than I've made in SEVEN F*CKING HOURS of attempting DCH runs with randoms.

Never in my life have I encountered such utter uselessness. Once upon a time, gamers prided themselves on being good at video games. Now it seems the goal is to fail as hard as possible. This must be some millennial c*nt thing that gen x c*nts don't get, coz I'm not laughing, Jaylen or Hunter or whatever ridiculous name your parents saddled you with.

I think the one that kills me the most is S&S where people are literally falling all over each other as they rush to Do All The Things. Like, you get to a corner, pull out your stun gun to take out a camera, wait for the camera to track away... and then some drooling f*ckknuckle shoves you out in front of the camera. Like, why?!? What were you trying to achieve? Does it bother you so much that you didn't reach a given point first that you'll blow the heist over it? Really?!? And you don't see any problem with this? Or are you just so ignorant that it didn't occur to you that the guy who is hundreds of ranks above you might just know what he's doing and stopped for a reason?

Here's another instant classic: after a couple of restarts on run because the host keeps getting spotted and shredded (is Duggan shipments really that hard? Really?), I message him "Can you just follow me?". He agrees. We get to the vault, clear all tables bar two, he gives up on the one hack he tried, I take over but there's like 40 seconds left so by the time I'm done there's just no point in going for the table, so I head for the door. Not him! With 15 seconds left he starts looting. Alarm triggered. I message, "Aaand you f*cked us". His reply, ready for it? Brace yourselves. He says, "How?". How? HOW?!? Like, he doesn't even realise that it's possible to leave the vault without the alarm going off. Or that 2 Uzis are no match for an army of armoured guards. The ignorance/stupidity of these people is just off the f*cking chart.

Even the one I just failed, Big Con, Artwork, G6 Entry. Like, the absolute easiest and most lucrative run. Host 2-mans it (of course), pays me 15% (of course). We get to the vault, host spends the next 2.5 minutes on one hack, has no time to cut down the single painting he unlocked but tries anyway, alarm triggered, fully armored (Of. F*cking. Course.) guards annihilate us (well, him, because I use this super-secret OP hack called "Taking Cover". You guys should try it, it's amazing). Meanwhile, I've hacked every other door and snagged 4 paintings AND made it out in time. Like, he could've just run along behind me and cut down what I unlocked rather than trying to do something that he knows he can't do and leaving half the take behind.

You know what else? I'm tired of complaining about it. This playerbase is beyond help. Me ranting here only communicates to forumers, and for the most part we all know this stuff, so ultimately it's achieving nothing. My posts ITT used to at least be entertaining because I still had a sense of humour about it and tried to make them amusing; this last week or two of running DCH has drained my love for the game so much that I'm just a bitter shell of a God-eater.

Look, if anyone has a PvE oriented crew that likes success and money, hit me up. I can't do the random thing anymore. Even by reading this far you're better than most players I meet day-to-day. I have all the toys and am probably one of the best heisters you've ever seen. I don't fail, I don't troll, I kick so much AI ass that my feet smell like pixels. Xbone, no kids (nothing personal, I hate you all equally). Oh, and I'm fabulously rich so I won't be quibbling over a few bucks - for me, the reward is pulling perfect jobs. Money is just a way of keeping score at this point, but if you're not rich, I guarantee I can help you change that.

Ok, I think I'm finally done here. Apologies for the epic rant. But you guys know where I'm coming from, no doubt.

Oh of course, and no matter how tolerant I am, Saturday was like that for me, and I didn't turn the game on all day yesterday.

One thing I have began to notice is that these fails usually seem to come from players who turn out to be kids, and when I say kids, I mean genuine 4-6 year olds. With a console. And a headset. Playing THIS game. With tits in the strip club and more bad language than a Tatantino movie. Honestly, and these parents are just in the background talking away. It's absolutely bonkers to me. I don't have children, but I mean.... There's no way in hell I would let my kid play this game that young. Maybe when they are in their teenage years, but not below the age of 13. Judging by public lobbies at the weekend, the game is full of them. All different nationalities too. 8 haven't been playing GTAO that long, so I guess it's not something I thought of until now.

Best about it is, since I've learned how to do the DHCs more or less flawlessly, when you do a successful one, the kids all add you as a friend. I'm sorry but as a 36 year old.... That's a no from me. There's just something too weird about it all, on my end.

I need more friends that play this game, almost all of them have quit. Tried to do my casino aggressive finale, target is paintings (spent 100k redoing the scope out mission and got paintings every damn time) so I figure I just need 1 random. In the lobby he had said it was his first time doing the heist, he was level 118 so figured he knew the game. I explained in detail what to do and even paid 30% (was feeling generous and I don’t need the money have 185mil just trying to get to 200 before the update) all preps done solo, heist should be a cakewalk. I told him to just grab while I unlock the doors (I have thermal charges and only need to hack one damn door) by the time I had placed all the thermal charges and unlocked the last door the stupid random had only grabbed 2 paintings. Obviously I die in the vault to redo, re-explain everything to him and restart next time he only gets one painting and I look on the mini map and he’s standing in the middle of the vault spinning in circles doing nothing, now he’s testing my patience so I said last try get your act together and enjoy the easy payday. Final try he goes and grabs one painting then goes into the last door to hack rather than grab paintings of course he fails it and sets off the gas. I told him to go F himself and left. Why must there be so many idiots, how can you fail the easiest heist in the world 🤦‍♂️

A bit of an older story but I still remember it pretty well. It was around when heists first came out and was playing with some friends on prison break, right after the final cutscene preparing for the jump rashkovsky died, guess his heart couldn't handle it.. Though it ended up literally killing all of my motivation to continue those heists from that point on since we had already failed a bunch before that 🙃

Domesday act 3 going for final elite trophy.

3 players land the jet pack at the end, the 4th lands then suddenly thrusts up. They come down and land, we missed the elite time by 10 seconds.

Would of got it if not for Buzz Lightyear. To infinite and beyond.

I usually settle for gold or artwork and usually get it within 2 tries.

But yea, after the weekend I've had, as well as today, heists with randomers is dead. If anyone on PS wants help then fire away. I'm pretty speedy as well as competent. Hack 1 print in approx 7 seconds etc. Always have full prep done. Big con elite or S&S double daily take etc. Don't even need to speak. There's no need to, as long as you know what you are doing. If you don't, stay behind me. UK timezone, evenings and weekends.

My gamerID is the same name as on here.

I'm not sure which is worse, randoms who do that or randoms who follow you past about 3 trolleys of loot in the centre room then stand behind you as you specifically move to hack open the back-right cage to unlock the twin trolleys.

The toss up for the Number 3 & 4 slots are;

- People who hack, but have no idea how to hack and either set off the alarm or suck so hard they just stay on it for the full amount of vault time, then choke on nerve gas while STILL hacking. (Seriously, if there was a "force takeover" option that didn't allow the perosn forced off to do it to the person who forced them off, that would solve it... but Cayo Perico is Soloable, so Rockstar DO know and will cater)

- People who see a green icon in the back-left cage, but instead of actually going to the back-centre cage that leads to it, they run into the left cage, turn right then proceed to run up and down the solid wall they're faced with for about 10-15 seconds before they realize that's not how to reach it... then run off and make no attempt to come at it from the only other (correct) direction.

Man i'm tolerant with people which i know they are either learning or are low-levels without having the health bar of a lvl 100, but there are people which seems to be trolls or etc ...

7 years of GTA, 5 years of heists, and some people keeps doing the same mistakes.

If i'm doing a heist and the people makes the a mistake/die 3 or 2 times in the same point, i quit. (because i know it is usually a pattern).

I usually make the Act 1 and Act 2 of Doomsday Heist and both Aggressive and Big Con version of the Casino Heist only with a second player, it is way better concerning payouts, better for communication and in general ... it is better when doing with randoms.

Two weeks of playing in XB1 with randoms because of the heist challenge and farming and it went way better than i expected, made a fellow low-level/newbie player friend and made in total 5M concerning Heists and was host like twice.

But today ...

- Entered a random Heist.

- Big Con, hard mode ... gold (oh, yeah), 4 players ....  lowest level and host was 140 ....

- Maintenance entry, Firefighters as exits.

- We had a smooth ride until vault entrance, hack ??? 3 other people hacking alongside me and they messed up with the hacking, we got 1.7M, but activated the alarm.

- We got out, had to fight my way until side entrance, cover ??? those fellas must hate this dude, we lost like 225k, 3 people suffering because of the laundry room spawn, had to come back to help them.

- We got out of the place, one noose truck to our right, obvious way was to use the race track to avoid damage, two guys tried to go to the Lost MC by casino side entrance even with me and other guy saying to go via race track, second respawn, someone got instakilled after spawn, third respawn a fellow got pissed and ran straight to NOOSE, Host and me were got on the Sentinel, one of the other guys died and he quit, since he was with me when i was fleeing on the racetrack, i sent a MSG to him asking why he quit.

- He said aside him everyone on the team was dumb, we don't know how to play and he only lost time because of us, i blocked him andk ept the answer to myself.

- I hacked 3 doors, i was the first to pass the guards and take minimum damage, i came back to help them and was the first to run to the goddamn racetrack and after all, the fella got pissed with me too ...

I made a exception of my basic two runs and the fella was a idiot.

The lesson, i will keep to my rules and f*ck randoms, if i see the host or a fella which have a real difficulty or a bad time ... i will help them, aside this .... not anymore.

Cayo Perico ... it will be interesting, soloable, maybe the people which are "too good to do with other people or randoms" will shine, or maybe they will finally give a credit for those which puts a proper effort on the heists.

That's a randoms vs crew differentiation, partci. For crew, I work for the betterment of the crew overall. For randoms, well, they're just using me, so I'm fine with using them right back.

Again, it's the principle of it.

Never crossed my mind. :rol:

Edit:

Just had the most glitched S&S of all times: first, some guards were not dying after two head shots (with Duggan done), which took us couple of attempts to figure out going around it, then, after we were out of the vault and all, host wanted to go out through the roof. In the elevator something glitched, I fell through the ground and after short while was teleported at Noose HQ. Luckily host and the other guy had the sense to destroy some cameras so the alarm triggered and we restarted again. Out of the casino we found nothing but FAGGIOS - a fabulous disaster this was, still having tears in my eyes, somehow we got to the chopper and then the never ending police heat glitch happened. I think it took us an hour to finish this heist. One for the ages.
