Is The Hydra Worth It - In Depth Review

Is the 3 million dollar price tag worth all its glory? If you want the simple answer, yes!

 

The new Mammoth Hydra features a brand new Vertical flight mode allowing players to take off from any location. This adds a brand new host of tricks that you can pull off including the ability to strafe sideways while maintaining speeds of over 100mph using a combination of rudder control and the hover mode. This armed jet from mammoth features homing launchers and explosive cannon rounds. Much like the lazer these can prove incredible power for the price.

 

After this jet is purchased you will be able to call for delivery via pegasus.

This then prompts the jet to spawn at the next local suitable location.

 

The goods and the bads?

 

1 - 3 million is beyond sky high price range, but is a fair tag. Assume a level 12 can play the humaine labs raid and aquire this machinery, thats a no brainer.

 

2 - Hover mode can be activated via right on the D-Pad at any given time in flight.

 

3 - The vehicle can be flown conpletely in vertical flight mode much like a helicopter, the rockets and cannons still available during this flight mode!

 

4 - Top speeds range between 140 and 160mph on the clock! Of course, this is rediculous but is a Rockstar fault with nerfing if vehicle top speeds rather than the vehicles actual capability

 

Bad?

 

There are no bad things about the Hydra. It is perfect for the experienced pilot and to be quite frank, those who hate it cannot fly it. This Jet has vast superior air techniques opposed to the Lazer. Combining this technique with strafing could see the lazer a toy of yesterdays world!

 

Some claim the handling is rather slice and dice when using the rudders. This may be true, however it is more of an issue with the size and look of the plane. The Hydra is much larger and beefier than the lazer by a huge range that it looks rather out of place from the rear view and turning

I got my first hydra-to-jet kill by using the hover mode while doing an immelman; I can't find the correct words to explain how this must've looked from another perspective, to see a plane upside-down suddenly start to push downwards with great force and performing a turn in 1/3rd of the space and time it takes a Lazer to.

 

The Hydra, in it's current state, is to the Lazer what the Savage is to the Buzzard - it trades agility and acceleration for firepower (or in the Hydra's case, VTOL), but in the hands of a good pilot, you'll be losing neither. The Hydra is, hands down, the ultimate Aerial Vehicle as of update 1.23.

Nope. It's delivered to a runway.

Its spawned on a Runway, due to the fact that the Hydra is classified as a fixed-wing aircraft.

 

Would be cool if it spawned on helipads though!

OP: I personally think its worth it. My only issue is it feels to damn big, i know it isnt but it just feels like it. Like driving a nissan maxima, or a 7 series bmw.

Little tidbit, for aircraft, the speedometer is in knots, not mph. It flies at 184 mph at city level, but it can hit 200kts at altitude which is about 230mph.

 

Its not much when talking planes, but it's the fastest thing in the game.

Lazer is better in everyway aside from top speed. But what good is top speed if ittakes three days to reach it?

 

If you can fly, you would know you can pretty much hover with the Lazer too. E.g i land the Lazer on madrazo's roof after doing extradition.

 

Still bought the Hydra though, so I can fly to the military base to steal a lazer xD lolll

Lazer is not better in every way

 

Lazer cannot hover on top of the world while you eat your taco

Lazer cannot land anywhere

Lazer cannot take off anywhere

Lazer cannot drift through tunnels

Lazer cannot carry multiple people on top of it for a super radical air fortress

Lazer cannot remain hovering after the pilot gets killed

Lazer cannot turn 360 at a moments notice

Lazer cannot be owned

Lazer cannot cost you 3mill

Bought the Hydra and its worth every penny its the only pegasus vehicles i like calling, (titan and buzzard are a waste of money wish i could sell them) but the Hydra is something else:

 

Besra = 1.15 million

Hydra = 3 million

 

ok the hydra is a lot more expensive as the Besra but you get:

-Hover

- Weapons

- A Lot better looking jet

- Faster jet though harder to maneuvre

- a jet 40 years old and immune to EMP (not that this matter)

 

overall i'm having a blast with the hydra its good fun to fly, looks awesome and well it has weapons unlike the besra, and unlike Lazers you can simply call them, also unlike buzzards they don't spawn everywhere.....

Like I did. As soon as I unlocked it (last night) I bought it. And it is worth it

Rockstar knew that the hydra was the most wanted vehicle since GTA Online started back in 2013. That's the only reason for that (imo) ridiculous price. I think it's overpriced. I'm actually much more interested in the Savage and Valkyrie.
