First of all, I'm not saying this is 100% effective but it has worked to me on Xbox 360. Figured it could help someone trying to join, you lose nothing.

 

Ok, so if you get the "Unable to Connect to Rockstar Games Service" or the "Files required not found" join a friend who is in a freeroam session (don't know if a recent player works aswell). You should get the same error message again, now try to join a session normally.

 

If a screen about the update or whatever appears (the ones with text) then it worked. I'm trying to figure how to revert the glitch that makes characters ugly and found this. Hope it helps.
