You can only Progress as Heist Leader?

I haven't yet played Heists, but it seems to me that You can only progress through Heists as Heists Leader.

That's a terrible thing to do.

I don't plan on being the Heist Leader when I play later on because I'm broke af.

So when I do acquire the money to do a heist, I have to start from the bottom.

Brilliant.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.(Please do).

OT - What's wrong with doing some to get money and then using that money to invest in progressing yourself? Sounds like a no-brainer to me, or am I missing something?

First things first: every Heist needs a leader and the Heist Leader is going to need to be at least rank 12 and own a high-end apartment with a planning board in order to co-ordinate the crime. Not only do Heist Leaders cough up all of the setup costs up-front, they have complete control over team roles and the cut of the final take each Crew Member gets. Additionally, Heist progress is only saved for the Heist Leader - so when choosing a leader it makes sense to link up with someone you can trust.

Which is why everyone gets to do the first heist as Leader at no cost. Where did the message get lost?

pretty sure the heist progress being saved to the leader is in reference to if you go away having done like 1 setup mission and have more to do. makes perfect sense

I won't be playing until later tonight, but I just assumed that that meant progress will only be saved so if you want to do one mission/heist a day for example, it'd only pick up where you left off if the leader is on (as opposed to all but the leader). Otherwise, what's the point of the "so when choosing a leader it makes sense to link up with someone you can trust," line?

The only problem you should have with a lack of money preventing you from starting is if you haven't already bought a high-end apartment. Otherwise, the first heist costs the leader 11k, and you'll make enough from it to be able to host the second, and enough from the second to host the third, etc.

 

Don't have 11k? Go play a regular contact mission. You'll make that in 10 minutes...
