Finally lucked out with a competent lobby, and since then I'm savaging people with my Savage. Quite the beauty machine, indeed... one could pick off jets if your aim is particularly true. I'll echo the sentiment that the armor's paper-thin, though, but that's only a small gripe.

 

Now to set my spawn location to good ol' Paleto Bay~. Totally worth paying the insurance fees for. :3

I bought one a few weeks ago and I must say that the cannon is very OP.

Doesn't turn worth a f*ck, doesn't tilt worth a f*ck, I find it very hard to stop its momentum, and it starts smoking if you sneeze on it.

 

Flying an annihilator or a cargobob is easier and those are larger aircraft. They f*cked this thing so bad just so it's not OP... There's a f*cking homing launcher for a reason R*. You didn't have to make this chopper absolute sh*t when everyone has a SAM site attached to their hip.

 

The more I fly it the more I hate it. I'm better off with my buzzard and the peek-a-boom strategy.

The only real problem that I have with the Savage is that I simply can't stop it. I pull the left stick back.. and it's still flying forward for good 5 seconds.

Looks amazing.

 

Cannon has a ludicrously short range - to use it against ground targets you have to pretty much nosedive at them, but the range is so short that you have to be so low to the ground that poles and trees become an issue.

 

And if a rotor so much as grazes a pole, you'll be lucky to get out of it; I've had my Savage flip upside-down 30 feet in the air - the recovery put me into a building. It's got that same weird physics thing that the Tank cannon has (rotate the turret into a wall, turret then batters the Tank around instead of the turret just getting blocked).

 

It can take very little damage - you'll be smoking after the first round of return fire, black and stalling after the second, and you'll crash land sometime during the third.

 

Buzzard is more efficient for Contact Missions (due to speed and agility).

 

Savage is too vulnerable to HM's in free roam and the short range on the cannon puts you well withing range of small arms fire from the ground, so it's no good for protracted PvP battles.

 

Best used as a multi-passenger Hydra for fast strafing runs vs the ground if you insist on using the cannon, but the Savage comes into its own if you ignore the cannon and use it as a long-range rocket platform.

 

In air-to-air it's death to all other choppers, but extremely vulnerable to jets.

 

I own two, and don't regret it, but I'm a little disappointed that the Savage is not all I hoped it would be. I won't recommend against it - I'd rather have one than not, but it isn't my go-to move.

You have to hit fast and hard with the Savage otherwise you'll be blown out of the sky. This means getting Lester to help with the stealth element and then try to hit your target in one go. Once they know you are coming and stop and get out of the car you'll have to retreat. In my experience once the lockon is there it's already too late as you can barely dodge it with the Savage. I usually retreat once they get out of their cars and go back to them once they think I am off doing something else.

i fail to see the logic behind it taking less bullets to destroy than the buzzard, but it is fun to just rain missles on people,

 

and it really does make short work of the mindless killing missions, the no reload missles makes up for the slower flying speed that the buzzard

I've found the same, I have the savage. Don't fly it. The buzzard is the more deadly machine, off radar, dead. At least in the buzzard you can hit and run in the savage you are dead as soon as someone sees you. Even in missions the Buzzard is the slightly better machine, agility counts a LOT. The Valkyrie on the other hand... if you have a friend that thing is just beyond amazing.

 

The cannon on the Savage is potent but the extreme short range means you can never actually use it.

Think that's why Rockstar called it the savage, for its savage handling!

 

She's a big bird and the rotor blade span really limits landing and strafing options.

I've already flipped her several times! Clip a lamp post, flip 180 then explode.

 

Do I regret buying it, not a chance

Love it, although with the cannon was angled down more. As someone said, you have to nosedive to hit anything on the ground, and with the lack of range it really limits its effectiveness.

I mainly bought it for the explosive rounds and amazingly fast fire rate, the two things I think many other players have forgotten about, I'd consider the extra $150,000 cost (from the Buzzard's original price) is worth it if you want powerful weaponry at the expense of maneuverability.
