lol parts of this topic I've seen discussed here and on other forums (the OP's question, not the 'where's your source stuff') -- remind me of the kind of script you'd see in cheap grade Z alien invasion movies: Alien ship crashlands into a redneck farmer's barn killing all his cows. The townsfolk get all riled up and go alien-hunting with bats, rifles and pitchforks in hand to find out what kind of sick species of ET would do this to a bunch of innocent cows.

Never mind that they now have proof of life beyond earth. Intelligent life beyond earth. Travel between stars is possible and happening, etc etc...Religion overhauled. Physics overhauled. Biology and chemistry overhauled. Life as we know if overhauled. Planet and species changing stuff. But nooooo they want to sort out why ET crash landed on a barn and 'fix em good'. Kind of missing the bigger picture there.

A major update to a major game has been slated to be released on *exactly* such and such a date. Has been advertised to the high heavens and even broadcast within the game on update screens. Yet here we have (presumably) proof that the integrity of the update/patching/release system put in place by 2 or 3 major organizations has been compromised, and pictures flaunting their ineptitude and lax patching process are all over the web.

How did it get released early? Why? Who? Can it happen again? What implications does it have for other patches for every other game on these (supposedly) secure, tightly controlled ecosystems?

R*, Sony and MS IT should be freaking out. R* PR and execs should *definitely* be freaking out, as they've lost the initiative in terms of what screenshots and content information is released to the public by whom and when (admittedly by only a day or so, but it's the loss of control that's significant not necessarily the time frame).

Yet the playerbase can only think to ask, "Why do they get it and not meeeeee." Or "Calm down you've waited for 10 years you can wait another day". Just like those Grade Z sci-fi red-necks...completely missing the more salient point of the issue.

lol anyway this is just rambling...just wanted to get this off my chest. The whole 'developer/reviewer/VPN build' idea sounds pretty plausible to me. Not acceptable from an IT security perspective...but plausible.
