Drifting is cooler at higher speeds, with purpose

I can't be the only one who cringes at these videos of people going 20 mph around light posts, pillars, etc.

Wowwwww dude his tires were smoking the whole time...

I like gaining real speed and taking sharp corners, dodging traffic, completing stunts, etc.

The drift is a means to an end, not just for the sake of slowly burning rubber.

This.

Although I do occasionally like to do some sliding in my Banshee I wouldn't call it real drifting, Once you get the angle it only lasts for about 2-3 seconds and since every car is an automatic in GTA you can't keep the power going when taking the sharp corners. IMO drifting is too good a word for it, maybe call it gliding or as I said above, sliding.

The only car that has a chance at doing any real drifting in this game is the Futo and that's when it is raining and when the streets are reasonably clear.

Driving in GTA IV takes skills. My 5 year old newphew can drive in GTA V with no skill.

You dhould give your nephew credit, he apparently can do better than the multitude of dumbasses who can't drive in every lobby.

Agreed at the boredom from these "drifting videos". It does take some practice to reliably drift at low speed, but who cares? It is boring. I'd love to see a compilation of drifters snaking around mountain roads at high speed than technical stuff in a parking garage.

It's the way you play the game. Other people have their own ways of playing..... simple as that.

Rapid gt can sorta drift on wet ground. Other than that....yes i do laugh at the videos of people thinking they're badass going in circles at low speeds.

/thread you heard it guys, people have different opinions, so with that in mind, refrain from discussing and pontificating those differences.

I'm not sure what constitutes a drift, but I sure love my comet and carbonizzaire around corners

You cant drift in GTAO, sadly.

Its still fun to try and see your car get smothered in NPC blood.

Power sliding is not drifting but it is def way more fun to watch than gta drifting at 2mph

What you said isn't an opinion, it's a fact that everyone knows. Contribute something useful. OT, slow drifting is stupid IMO. Not much skill required

Drifting at high speeds only serves to slow one down. Drifting is actually used more productively at slow(er) speeds. Drifting originated in Japanese Touge Battles for one of two reasons:

1.) One drifts so as to take up a larger space on the road to prevent your rival from passing.

2.) Drifting is used to clear tight (slow speed) corners faster. That's why you see the Scandinavian Flick used so much in tight rally stages.

I personally am not a fan of drifting around light poles, but if people want to do that than how does that adversely effect you. I've come to realize, if it doesn't injure you or cost you anything it's not your affair.

You really can't drift at high speeds in this game, just powerslide, but you can get close to drifting going slow.

My 2 cents.

Sorry OP, drifting is the end, purely a style move, taking the correct line will always be faster than sliding through the corner

Drifting in GTA is a bit like chess in that it's not a great spectator sport, but it is difficult to do well and even harder to master.

Not always. The reason why you don't see formula 1, v8s etc drift is because of the tyre setup. If they didn't have to worry about blowing out tyres it would be a different story :p
