The Dedito Gae
i played TOBGT before the main history (don't judge me) i had fun with it, better than San Andreas but i heard negative comments on the internet about IV ,"the city is small" "misions are repetitive, " "game's too depresing" "driving and shooting is a janky mess " and more sh*tty criticisms ,most of them were proved wrong by playing TOBGT(E gameplay, map). personally,i loved IV from the beginning, almost every detail.,We don't have jetpacks, dildos to beat NPCs, enterable gyms, a lot of customizable options, pizza delivery missions and the ability to make Niko fat for lulz, we have a game that takes himself seriously,a gritty dark tone that suits the history around our serbian antihero, i loved it from the begining. Joining this forum i saw here that some IV fans didn't liked the game at first, then they re-discovered it and started appreciate it more . What i'm asking is: did you needed time to get into the groove of IV or you fully appreciated the game the first time? EDIT: my english sucks...sorry about that. Tycek
I started to love this game even before I had it as I first saw that on my friend's PS3. And I didn't any warm up to fully get into the Liberty City, even after previous games in the series, because everything felt like home. It took me some time to learn the driving and shooting (since they were new), but it was very pleasant lesson. matajuegos01 and The Dedito Gae
Payne Killer
I didn't need to warm up. My first time playing it, I loved it from the start. It still has that magic to this day. albanyave, mr quick, The Dedito Gae and 7 others
Uncle Vlad
Me too. I was excited from the moment I saw Liberty City for the first time from the ship. The more I progressed through the story, the more I loved the game. I was like "Wow, GTA has grown up!" And then, a few years later, I realised what a step backwards V´s story was. super_slav, Kafonix, The Dedito Gae and 3 others

Official General
I was already so hyped for IV before it came out. I really liked the game and quickly got into it from the first time I played it in 2008 - however by the time I finished it, I felt it was lacking in a number of important areas. I initially saw the game more of a slight disappointment, rather than something so great, even though I still enjoyed it. It took another 2 more years for me to fully appreciated IV by 2010 into 2011 after having another playthrough and playing EFLC. It was then that I realized just how very good this game was, and how much I had greatly under appreciated it. I discovered so many good new things that made up for the things that I felt was missing in the original game. Definitely of the best GTAs in the series, I had such a real fun and memorable experience in playing IV. Lethal Vaccine
I got IV in 2008. Played it for exactly 10 days WITHOUT enjoying it all that much and went to University for years and put my gaming on hold until September 2013. I then came back to IV in September 2014 and somehow it just clicked from the time I turned it on, 5 years later from the time I bought it and played it for 10 days. Not sure what happened, but now it's my favorite. GrindingOnDatNRG
NearExpansion
IV is probably the best GTA - the introduction sets up the game wonderfully, the missions, story line and graphics are brilliant. Niko Bellic is most complex and most realised protag, its great how you make story decisions at key points in the game (Dwayne and Playboy X is especially well written). The friends are entertaining too, Little Jacob is a great character. The episodes are probably better games technically, Luis is a well written character, but Johnny Keblitz just gets annoying very quickly, its almost a relief when Trevor kills him in GTA V. Goldn-Bayse
I played IV when it came out in 2008 at my cousin's house. I liked it alot at the time and when I got if on my PS3 in 2010 I loved if more. It's technically the first GTA I owned. (Played some VC and SA at my cousins place as well but not for long). So I never really needed to warm up to it. Nordicdusk
I loved it from day one. I remember picking it up at the midnight launch and taking the next day off work to play it. Every time i play it even now i get that same warm feeling inside. GTA IV gets way too much hate the game is nothing short of amazing. The city itself is alive even when you turn it off you feel like its still going about its business. AuSsIeThUnDeR36
Well being a huge lover of San Andreas which I must have played through the story more than ten times, going from tight steering to IV steering really did my head in. I just couldn't corner without crashing but since playing IV for the past 3 or 4 years I love the car handling and everything else. The first time playing IV some of the missions were hard because I didn't understand what I had to do but now it's more a case of trying different methods for more fun. HoleInTheSky
Right from the start, I was living it. Only a couple of games I've played since IV, have drawn me in like that. Uncle Vlad

Me too The story was the best thing in the game, second to that was the clothes and the guns. PhillBellic
I needed a small amount of time to warm up to it, however I am glad I did. GTA IV will be at the top of the world for a long, long, time.

Shadowfennekin
It never grew on me. It was too depressing and I can't get absorbed into it for hours. The biker DLC was fantastic though but I can't play it anymore knowing Johnny's dead. TBoGT.... Luis is the most poorly written character ever and I just wanted to slug him. mr quick
No. I knew GTA IV was going to be something special long before I ever played it. I remember so well when Niko stepped out from his apartment and onto the sidewalk for the first time. The camera shows some things and for the first time you get a feel for the city. It's a nice effect that you're below the shadow of the above-ground train tracks, while there's sunlight around you.
B Dawg
The biker DLC was fantastic though but I can't play it anymore knowing Johnny's dead. He's not dead, because GTA V isn't a true GTA, everything about it is bullsh*t. It's a piece of sh*t sellout in desperate need of modding. lilchris131
Got to admit, I never clicked with IV when I first played it. In fact I played it at friends' houses just messing about, and shortly after bought the game myself and played the story up until meeting Little Jacob and got bored. I hear from so many people who say the same which is that IV's story is boring but it's annoying since it's only because it starts off slowly. About six months after first getting the game I decided to give it another try, and once the story took off I was completely hooked. I was only 14 at the time but quite mature for my age so was able to appreciate the greatness of the story. The Dedito Gae
It never grew on me. It was too depressing and I can't get absorbed into it for hours. You should re-play it, good things happen when you do that, and besides, TLAD is the darker one of the trinity, not IV.
Predator
I played episodes from liberty city first,it was really good, then i played 4 and loved it,to me,it was the last real gta, with criminal side activities like Vigilante,Jacob packages,Brucies carjackings, the assasination missions(gta 5 had but i think they counted as main missions)and not bullsh*t like yoga and golf,i mean,i wouldnt even do those two in real life. Uncle Vlad
Do you guys remember when the trailers came out? Good times. When I first saw "Things will be different" I knew this will be something monumental. But the trailer provided not much information, so I wanted more informations so bad. Some months later, "Looking for that special someone" came out. I was sooo hyped. And about half a year later the hype went through the roof - I saw "Move up ladies" for the first time. It definitely lived up to the hype for me. I´m feeling kinda sad when I think about the fact it won´t be like this with future GTA games, because of how things went with V. It is still a great game, but the first trailer was so promising, so magical...the game never lived up to it.
