Cars that are better off without performance upgrades

Anybody else ever fully upgrade a cars performance mods i.e. Engine, transmission, Turbo etc. and feel like they preferred the car stock?

I bought a Obey 9f a few months ago and aside from cosmetics I kept the cars performance mods stock (mind you this was just for free roam and missions not racing). Loved the car, fun handling, looks great yada yada. I finally decided a little over a month ago to fully mod the car, spent a boatload of money on it and now........I almost hate it. I rarely take it out cause I feel I can't rely on it due to its crazy oversteer, lightness, and any little bump sending this car into orbit.

I'm a pretty good driver with a decent race record around 400-550. I drive a variety of GTA cars with weird or tricky handling (Slamvan, rat-loader, dominator, Carbonizarre, most muscle cars) but this fully modded 9f just frustrates me.

Anyway thinking of downgrading back to stock performance or if it's a better profit selling and just rebuying. I also kept my Futo stock cause I read someone complaining that an upgraded Futo lost some of that fun handling which is the reason I have one.

Any opinions on these or any other cars that should maybe be left as is?

Yeah I know what you mean, although with the Futo I think the fun factor only increases with the extra horses under the hood. I found with the Rat Truck there was a specific set of upgrades that made it handle just as I liked and if I went to the next level of engine upgrade I couldn't drive it as I liked, too damn slippery.

I've spent quite a lot of time adding and removing upgrades to tweak the handling on all of my cars, so I definitely agree that full upgrades isn't always the best way to go.

I have a Coupe, the expensive one (can't for the life of me remember it's name now) but it performs a lot better without the Turbo Modification.

@Nacho....Fun factor increased with a Turbo Futo? Hmmm looks like I might be downgrading my 9F and upgrading the Futo finally and giving that a try.

Wow, that tweaking of a all the little upgrades could possibly drive me crazy lol. Much props to you for fine tuning all your cars. Sounds like an expensive proposition though I'm guessing (hoping?) you did all that in single player.

I would upgrade your Futo, it's still as easy to control as when it's stock but all the fun things about the slidey handling are magnified.

I used to mainly tinker with the engines in SP yeah but since getting a PS4 it's all been in MP as my SP mode characters are all broke and I can't really be arsed to do story mode. Sometimes I'll take a turbo out or remove other upgrades, drive round the block a few times then put them back in, 100 grand worse off. Not very sensible I know but since I filled my garages there's been nothing better to spend my money on.

The most weird upgrade is transmission, the cars seem to be heavier, don't know how to explain.

There are a few cars that I prefer the handling of without their wings, like the Coquette, Felon and Vigero.

Lots of my cars don't have turbos because I find it unrealistic to just turbocharge everything in my garage and I don't really find that the sound goes that well with some of the cars.

I don't put a spoiler or turbo on many cars, but always fully upgrade the engine, transmission, and brakes.

I never used to have a turbo on my futo (wanted to keep it n/a) but its so much more fun with it.

There's a few cars I have that I think are better without the turbo though either for the sound or somehow better performance? I don't have a turbo on my Coquette, Schwarzer, Banshee (especially seems better performance wise), Carbonaizzer (however you spell it), Infernus, Turismo, all of the sports classics.

I might have more without but those are the ones off the top of my head. Everything else on the cars is still upgraded

Spoilers actually make a difference? Didn't know that. I have loads without spoilers because most of them look pretty sh*t lol.. Might have to try that out

I never use turbo except on my bikes. Only two or three of my cars have suspension mods.

If you dont use armor your cars should be lighter/ faster

They don't actually work like a wing, they just add a little more grip and it changes the way some of the cars feel a bit. Some cars it's more noticeable than others.

I would say no as i fully upgrade all my cars but cars with viewable engine bays get no tint and all my muscle cars are non turbo. The car that i like better stock than upgraded is the maibatsu prenumbra because its a corner monster and extremely quick. I dont own one. I feel like the schyster fusilade needs no upgrades either. Plenty fast stock.

I personally think that the feltzer drives a lot better without performance upgrades.

I prefer my vehicles looks to remain stock (few minor changes such as: spoiler, lowered (50%) + if can I add better wheels matching the vehicle) and I upgrade 100% armor, 100% brakes, 100% engine and 50% transmission and don't add turbo. I have just sold a lot my vehicles and went on to fully upgrade all my remaining cars as I been involved with some races lately which made me boost my performances into overload because some online players who love to race are just f*ckin'crazy good and kick the sh*t out my preferred car performances upgrades.

Edit: I notice whenever I upgrade max performances on these few legendary sports car (Turismo, Zentorno, Adder, Vacca and I think the Jetser Race Car) I can't control the overkill performance upgrades on them and spinout, crash a lot, glitch/freeze and the brakes are useless when the cars (I mention) are overkilled in 100% performances.

That's just my opinion and I could be sh*thouse driver which make for my controlling errors.

For me it's the banshee and carbonziarre. Everytime I've upgraded them I've hated how they've driven. They drive great when stock.

Everything in my garage gets full upgrades. The ONLY time I downgraded afterwards was going back to stock suspension on the Turismo. Those curbs were a bitc# with it lowered haha.

Yeah, I try to keep spoilers off most my cars, but had to give in and put one on my Zentorno when it didn't drive the same after the spoiler update. At least that's how it felt to me.

I personally think that the feltzer drives a lot better without performance upgrades.

I kinda felt that way when I first upgraded the Feltzer but I guess Ive adjusted cause it's fine now.

Ahh I see yeah the zentorno was one I couldn't decide if it should have a spoiler or not. I guess it will be going on if it makes an improvement.

What about armour? I've read it can make a difference but never seen anything conclusive about it? Don't really wanna go wasting my money trying all this out haha

CarimboHanky

cars that are better without upgrades?

the Stinger GT

this car is super sweet, but the moment one upgrade it... massive fishtailing makes the car undriveable unless you go super slow.

I found with the Rebel that if you improve the transmission past the first upgrade the handling gets heavy and unresponsive. Turbo and engine upgrades are fine but max out the transmission and it barely steers at low speed.

A lot of cars look better standard with no kits and bgw's (big ghey wings). As for performance mods, I haven't tried comparing.

False. Armor has no negative effects.

But yeah, some cars are easier to drive without performance mods. The Coquette and 9F for example. It's mostly because the power added with performance mods is sometimes too much for the cars to handle in corners, making it more likely you will spin out. Obviously driving slower with any car makes controlling it easier. If you do manage to control the cars they will always be faster with performance mods though.

Yes I agree. Never liked the handling after upgrading bikes and lately started not going all in on my cars aswell. Some cars are great fun driving when taken off the street. Then you store them or buy them and after upgrading they behave very different.

I'll keep this in mind cause the Stinger (rag top version) is my next purchase......unless I go on a crazy shopping spree on Tuesday :)
