Installation Issues - CRC Error [SOLVED]

Hi,

I recently tried to install GTA IV again after a long time. The only problem is an error occuring while the installation process:

(I'm german, so the screen is from a german win7 system. I think the keywords are easy to understand for non-german-speakers, too)

The problem shown in the above image is an "error while transmitting features" (i translated it - i don't know if thats helpful enough xD).

It occured when the installer completed about 30%. Previous installation attempts stopped sometimes also on Disc2 at about 70%

progress. So it's not just one particular spot where the installer shows that error message. I think I can rule out the reason that

my discs are damaged - which I often read regarding to this mysterious crc-error.

I have really no clue at all ... I don't know why this error happens. I mean, the same discs worked perfectly when i first installed GTA IV.

There were no issues with the installation. I didn't even gave the discs to somebody else. They just stood in my shelf for the last one

and a half year - until yesterday. And i have tried about 5 or 6 installations so far. I really need your help guys :/

Thanks in advance :)

Most probably a problem with the discs, like you stated.

If I were you, I'd probably borrow the discs from a friend and install it.

And do check whether Disc 1 works or not when you try to open the game. If not, it'd be better to get the discs replaced or just buy a new copy of the game from Steam. ;)

Thanks a lot for your answer :)

Okay, i see. I don't think that friends of mine have Gta iv discs ...

If you are sure that it's just the Disc that might be damaged (however this happened),

there is no other way for me than scraping another few bucks together and buying this game again ...

It seems that i don't have the bill anymore, so i can't exchange it in the store where i bought it.

What a pity :/

If someone else knows another reason (and possibly also a solution),

I would be much obliged to him for telling me :)

Is that an original copy of IV?

Edited by pajkosinjo

Yes, it is ;)

I bought it about 2 years ago in a local PC gaming store.

It is definitely an original Rockstar-authorized version :)

Anyway, the issue is over now.

I did as Kevin told me and bought a steam key for 5€. Even

though there were some troubles with the installation

i can play the game now :)

... The only problem is now that i have - like in past days -

very low fps although my pc is actually good enough to run it

with 30+ fps. I think it's because i have an ATI graphic card.

Well, at least the game runs but i never get more than 15fps.

But that doesn't concern the topic anymore :D

So i beg a moderator to set the topic as [solved] ;)

Thanks
