This is pretty big news for PC gamers. Xbox live will be coming to PC for windows 10 for free, meaning you'll probably be able to play almost every Xbone game online with other Xbone players, without having to pay $60 (or however much it is) a year. This is a pretty big deal and definitely a big plus for PC owners. Maybe Microsoft is even looking at ditching the Xbox and making the PC their "console"? Who knows.

When pigs fly.

They're going to become Apple. Like how you can use the same apps across IPod > IPhone > IPad. So it'd be Windows Phone > Xbox > PCs.

They better drop the price or make it free on as well on Xbox or there'd be some real sh*t. :p

Well with the release of Xbox live on PC for free, there's really going to be no point of having a console, considering a PC will have access to both the PC and Xbox community.

Really no use in denying the truth.

You're completely forgetting the fact that:

-Not all want to put down the money that goes into a PC

-Some people just don't enjoy PC gaming in general as they don't have a good setup

-Many people prefer the convenience of console gaming

So how you can think Microsoft is just going to give the console gaming market away to Sony is beyond my comprehension.

I'd like to see them try. It will be fun to see Gaben bitch slap Gates.

You mean the less than $400 that goes into a desktop that has identical, if not more, performance than the Xbox One/PS4? Plus that free online makes it even cheaper in the long run.

-Some people just don't enjoy PC gaming in general as they don't have a good setup

Then they spend $400 on a decent gaming PC, just like they'd spend $400 on a console.

-Many people prefer the convenience of console gaming

Ehh, PC gaming is pretty easy if you want it to be. Just turn on the computer, launch steam/xbox live and game away. Pretty much the same difficulty as a console.

So how you can think Microsoft is just going to give the console gaming market away to Sony is beyond my comprehension.

PCs can be like consoles, but with more features and with the functionality of a PC. Whose to say Microsoft won't make their own PC box "consoles" and sell them? Steam's doing the same thing.

People who want to stick with console as their primary gaming source don't want to build a PC.

Then they spend $400 on a decent gaming PC, just like they'd spend $400 on a console.

Keyword: DECENT

And like said above, they don't want to build one rather than choosing the more convenient option of a console.

It's definitely not the same difficulty as console. You have to configure controls in some situations, make sure your PC is powerful enough to play the game, go through installation processes, setups, before being completely ready to play, etc. With console you pop in the disc, and then you play.

Microsoft's community jumped ship to Sony when Xbox One was $100 more than PS4. You really think most of the Microsoft fanbase isn't going to jump over to side Sony if Microsoft decided to just stop making consoles and expect to put forth the effort of building a PC, paying for optimal performance, etc? If so, that is completely absurd. They would lose an incredible amount of business.

Consoles won't die off because they develop standardizations for the industry. Development actually improves because the limitations of console hardware actually bottlenecks and inadvertently forces developers to optimize development, therefore creating newly efficient and innovative practices in game creation.

Imagine this, when you play a simulation game like SimCity. You have the option to play a progression or sandbox mode. If you're unfamiliar with the game, playing sandbox mode will not work. You need to first learn how to maximize and optimize your city resources under constraints before you break loose of the chains. Otherwise, you will most likely go bankrupt in sandbox mode.

Here's a good video on the console wars where he explains the benefit of console gaming and the effect it has on PC gaming.

With that said, PC gaming is considered secondary, and the plan would be to convert the Xbox into a "steam box" of sorts. Here, it competes directly with the PC boxes, which is most likely why Xbox LIVE is free.

Lol, that Xbox One/PS4 is going to last you a helluva lot more performance wise than that sh*t in a box that you'll build with $400.

You have to build them equals. Which means it needs a wifi card, a controller, and a bluray drive. No way you're staying under $400. And even if you do it'll be a sh*t computer, it won't even be worth it. PC gaming is the definitive way to to play imo, but only if you're willing to spend a little more.

That is the dumbest thing I have heard all year and probably will still be by the end of it.

The whole idea with this is to merge gaming between the PC and Xbox One. Which is why it's not free nor required since it's not on the Xbox.

Buying a console will always be consumer friendly, why? You pick, Xbox or Playstation. Unpack and plug it up. PC you gotta shop for parts and majority of people won't have the slightest idea what parts are compatible. Then you have to either pay someone to build it or do it yourself. Problems are awaiting.

Xbox Live is under $4 per a month right now ($40), even $5/month ($60) is cheap. I rather pay for service than free because free tends to be sh*ttier.

Plus, console gaming with Gamefly game rentals will be cheaper in the long run. Fact.

The Xbox One is basically a living room entertainment all in One system/PC anyways and all you had to do was plug it in.

Console gaming will control gaming no matter how much you argue it.

:)

Anyways, not to start trouble but this is pretty good news but definitely bad news for Playstation. They got far ahead in the console war, but they have been lacking updates and innovative ideas recently and Xbox is closing the gap fast.

Not everyone needs a Wi-Fi card. Motherboards come built in with an Ethernet port, which is superior, anyway.

You don't need a bluray drive, either. Steam and Origin replace the need to buy physical copies. Last time I checked, blu ray is used for movies and console games. I've never seen a blu ray PC game disc.

A controller? Sure, why not? They're easier to use, but many people prefer mouse + keyboard.

How does the game streaming work? Is there any good article about it?

I only know about the Playstation streaming service that was announced with PS4. Basicly the game is played on a console (PS1-3) but the pictures is streamed to you screen/PS4. Obviously there is inputlag then which is the main reason that I wont use these service anytime soon.

Woudl have to search for an article though. PC streaming services work the same way probably.

Streaming Services like the one from Nvidia to Nvidia Shield is another story. Most of the time you just stream from you own PC(Network) to the device which means that the latency is alot lower.

They can tell me that there is almost no input lag but I cant play a shooter even with the slightest input lag. That the reason I never use V-Sync (even with triple buffer)

The streaming feature he's referring to is the Xbox One to PC streaming with Windows 10.

The PS4 streaming service is a different animal. That's a paid-for service that delivers last gen games from a digital cloud library. PS4 does have a comparable streaming to device feature, however, but you can only use it on your Vita.

The Xbox One to PC streaming is illustrated in this video.

Cant watch it at the moment, but I dont think that this is a huge deal then. You still need a Xbox One I guess? (just like the streaming with Nvidia shield that I explained)

So the only difference might be that you have all the other stuff on your PC that you can use while playing Xbox. Atm I dont see the benefits of playing the Xbox One on your PC when you could just play the games on you Xbox One plus TV/Monitor.

Have to watch the video later.

It's more of a convenience factor. Like I said, PS4 already has the feature if you own a PS Vita. That allows you to play your PS4 games on your Vita from anywhere in your home. In fact, if you have a rooted Android phone, you can actually hack this feature to work on your phone, as if it were a Vita. So essentially, the Xbox LIVE on Win10 streaming feature essentially turns any Win10 device/desktop into a portable Xbox One.

The big announcement, however, will be cross-platform gaming. If and any games end up supporting it, it will be a major revelation in PC/console gaming. But again, this is all to compete with Steam. Microsoft is rushing to fill a void where there is little to no competition.

The only thing that could give it the lead is by releasing Xbox exclusives on PC again. Gears of War, Halo and so on. Both already had games on PC. Even Forza 5 had a port to PC as a DX12 version to show its capabilities. (obviously not for the public)

Should be interessting to see where this is going.

Wait. Did ya'll fall for the old "tray and play" bit again?

Haven't we been down this road in the past? Like since the first days of ME and XP.

The game streaming seems like a good thing but I'm not about to take my phat gaming rig into the bathroom with me...and I like my tablets to be Android - not sure I want to pick up a MS surface just so I can play and poop.

What I want to see is true cross platform play like they offered with Shadow Run(or whatever that one cross platform game was called) where PC and Xbox players play together.

It would be great to be gaming on my couch - save the game - come up to my computer and continue where I left off(on the xbox).

You build a PC for what you need. Not to make it "equals" (your word, not mine) with the console.

Can't connect via Ethernet? Get a wifi card or a board that has a wifi module. Don't need wifi? Then you don't need a card;

A controller? Again, buy it if you need. A KB/N combo works fine for most games.

Blu Ray drive? Pointless for a PC. 99.999999% of physical disks for PC programs and games are DVDs. Not to mention that a lot of people will just download the game/program from some sort of digital distribution service or from the product site. A DVD drive is all you need and tbh you don't really need that.

Granted, you aren't going to be building a monster for $400 if you account for taxes and the OS but you build a PC for your own needs, not to buy parts that you may not need just because a console has them.

Except a $400 PC running BF4 on the same graphics settings as an Xbox One or PS4 still won't run it as well as the console does, this applies to practically every game on console and PC. Edited by TJGM
