Money Vs Fun

Recommended Posts

****WARNING: A LONG READ******

****SECOND WARNING: NOT A HEIST THREAD******

OK so I'm reading through comments recently on some thread asking if it was worth buying the Kraken and it reminded me that something has been bothering me regarding the attitude to some gamers on the forums

1st of all I want to remind every1 that the GTA dollars are not real money (yes you can buy gta dollars with real life money, we'll get to that) The currency in this game is like that of all other games where you can trade points for items.....POINTS, they are ruppees, diamonds, sonic rings, gold stars..whatever you like.....please try to remember this and not blur the lines between actual money and in game money

I wanted to know why so many members are tight with the in game cash, so stiff and rigid that I often hear things like "grinding" "too expensive" or "waste of money".....why do so many players restrict their in game experience and fun by overly thinking about money

This is supposed to be a video game, a fun escape from real life, yes it mimics real life but only to an extent and is more of a parody if anything...when did we blur the lines so much that 1mill is too much?

This is the one environment where you can afford to spend ridiculously, go broke and still be okay..I'm not here to call anyone out, put anyone down or boast, I currently have most peg vehicles, all items of clothing I like and 26 cars between two 10 car apartments and one 6 car apartment....my current balance is just under 1 mill....any situation or fun idea my friends come up with..I have the resources.....

I regret nothing (except one or two masks and hats) I have been broke to the point I couldn't watch TV or take a shower in my apartment...it was hilarious...a new in game experience, I robbed stores, played missions, races, parachute...all sorts, I have expensive cars and cheap cars...not cos of the price but because I like them and it enhances my experience

Anyway, I wanted to ask..what's the deal? what happened? come on guys, I can understand saving for something in particular if you don't have enough but the journey is more fun than the destination, there are hardly any repercussions.....let loose and blow them sonic rings!

I'm not sure who has more fun any more, "broke" players or cash hoarders

earning money is this game is the easiest thing to do...and involves you actually playing the game

Ironically I'm typing this while at work... I'll leave worrying about money in the real world personally, I'm not afraid to go broke in GTA, cos it's just a game and I can always, always make it back

ps. The Kraken was and is worth it

What do you guys think?

I already have a Journey, besides cooking meth I prefer the other RV for camping.

I guess I like to have a little in the bank at all times so when DLC drops I have some cash for new toys. Having said that I have no qualms about going broke if I have too either. Currently I only have about 700k. (Oh how I would love to say that about real life.... :p)

Similar to earning real money, earning GTA$ costs time.

While earning money is easy, most desirable items in this game are expensive.

You technically just have to "play the game" to earn money, but only certain activities (namely missions) are optimal for earning large sums of money for high priced items.

So after playing every activity dozens of times, you still have days worth of grinding left before you can afford all that you potentially desire.

So it's a trade off:

Enjoy playing the game leisurely and wait forever to afford the items you want (because they will increase your enjoyment of the game)

Or slave away at missions to dramatically cut your waiting time to afford the items you want.

Yeah, mr. Crysis. Yeah, science!

OT: This is the main reason why I glitch money, to be honest. Yeah, I like grinding and play the game to get money, but reaching the point of treating this game like a full time job... no. Simply no, I have a job already and don't want to make a videogame something like that. If I grind something I prefer to grind my level.

I've been broke too to the point I can't even call my mechanic to bring me my rusty Emperor, I have to styles to play: playing with zero and making money selling cars, robbing stores, betting in races, doing missions and when I want to go to free roam with my friends and take a few millions since I find stupid that I'm worried to defend myself if some jackass wants to kill me and the only way to deal with him is blowing his expensive car.

Sorry but my millions are for free roam, I don't like when I want to do something with a friend and I get a "sorry, man... I'm broke as hell, let's do some missions instead". I don't see the free roaming in there, if everything wasn't that expensive (70k for a homing launcher) another would be the story.

I have fun grinding since I kinda roleplay and love to see my characters progressing and trying different styles for them to see the "evolution", not focusing that much in how I will afford a new helicopter or something like that. I also have fun caring less about "earning for a living". People that takes too serious working in this game really need an actual job. And it's not an offense, I don't like to join a mission to find people that make it boring just to get more cash.

By the way... you'll get more money when you stop worrying about it... I just logged in the account I'm leveling up and I have 2.3 millions that I didn't knew I have.

I have almost 7 million and I feel broke because I know a few impulse buys I'll have next to nothing left. I can play Forza and have around 4 million, buy a sh*t load of cars, full upgrade them, and I won't feel broke. Something is wrong with that picture. Yes yes I know this isn't Forza, it's two different games.

Since the ocean is empty, yeah the Kraken is a waste of money.

I nominate you for response of the decade

if you have no imagination its pretty empty

I'm sorry but I'm not 6 anymore. I don't pretend to see things that aren't there. It's like having an empty cup in front of me to quench my thirst, it's not going to happen.

I didn't read the OP.

I didn't read any retorts.

I did read the title and it drew me like a moth to a flame.

FUN!!!. That's the point. If you're not having fun....

You've got no one, I repeat, no one to blame but yourself.

I use it often so you can't tell me it's a waste of money, onlyif you bought it can you say that, in which case you are stuck with it and may as well use it

imagination is not only pretending things are there...try being creative, its a sandbox game

if I may ask what do you do in the game that's fun or that you enjoy?

I use/used the free one, it's boring. It's cool that you get use out of it, not many people do. I hang out with my friends, do missions, meet new people, etc.

This game is great don't get me wrong but in most cases cash is king. So many things point to cash, inflated pricing system, shark cards, lots and lots of things to buy, etc. Like StangOne50 said money=fun. I know lots of people that gave up on this game because the money system.

This is how I view the forum, people like to complain over just about anything and everything in GTA, and to fit in more people complain and follow like sheep, ever since joining the forum I never new the gta community was a bunch of 1st world problem wankers, I'm still having fun and there's always something new to do, actually doing missions and saving for something is fun and rewarding :)

It's not only this forum this has issues with this game.I talk to people in freeroam, missions, etc and lots of people have the same issues. You have the best selling game ever with hardly anything to do. You have a HUGE open world with hardly anything to do. Pretend only gets you so far till you get bored to death. Missions are boring, racing isn't fun no more, no past time activities besides golf and tennis( which hardly anyone plays ) If I wanted to play a boring game where I had to "create" my own fun each and every day, I'd go play minecraft. Now I'm not saying I don't love this sandbox because I do. I just wish I could go on right now and just enjoy the game, not feel like its a chore.

A big fat YES to this topic. The game is supposed to be about fun first and foremost - that's why it's a game; that's what they're for. The money you earn is only supposed to encourage you to try different fun things, not to trade fun for the grind. It is strongly suggestive (and I think we all know this) that the game's earn rate was unbalanced to the poverty side of the fence for a long time, because a lot of people were just running Rooftop Rumble 24/7. I think things have gotten better - mission payouts were eventually improved in a lot of ways, and there are more ways to make real money now (thank god for chrome Dubstas) than there used to be. Once heists come out, we can add another to the list. Hopefully that is the future of the game and the direction it keeps going in. Game money should be earned and feel like an accomplishment, because that's how it was designed to work, but we shouldn't all be broke most of the time either - certainly not to the point that we all turn back into grinders.

well I've been saving for heists (which is kinda ironic). Why spend money on a sub that isn't as useful when I could (hopefully) buy a VTOL jet? once I have all that and if I have money leftover, then sure I'll go crazy. And also I buy pegasus vehicles and clothes for two characters, so the costs add up.

Once heists come out I'll go crazy with the spending, because we won't have an update for a while after I'm guessing. I'll buy the Swift, and maybe even the miljet. But I'm still glad I didn't buy the Swift back then (even though I thought it was really cool) because that money could have gone to the new huey chopper. And saving money means I don't have to grind like mad when something cool does come out, which is absolutely not fun (especially if it's limited time).

Money=Fun

Billionaire Days. Case closed. :p

On topic, i agree with the spirit of the OP. I am addicted to GTAV/GTA0 just like past GTA games, mainly because I appreciate the incredible virtual design and lighting and driving the cars.

We have ta massive world and the tools at our disposal

me and some friends dressed up as prisoners...broke into jail and held of the police..

we have all got on the train put bounties on each other and killed all who came near.....this is why I say use imagination

even recently we roleplayed police and stopped people etc....

Well I have been grinding to get money for heist i'm at like 1.2 million, but beside freemode I enjoy the missions, especially anything evolving a good merry weather fight.

So I get the best of both worlds and not really fun over money or money over fun, it's a package for me.
