Can't play GTA 5 online with my friend

I've probably tried everything possible to be able to play with my friend for more then 5 minutes. Everything from changing my NAT to open, switching from wireless and wired connection, deleting my profile and recovering it again, deleting Mac setting and disc cleanup, adding the specific ports I need to allow GTA 5... Pretty much everything and now I'm still in the same position. Sometimes I'll be able to get into his game or him in mine and play for 5-10 minutes but then one of us disconnects or everyone in the lobby suddenly leaves. Is it just the servers that are complete garbage or is it something on our ends? We can play any other game online just fine.
