2nd character before heists?

Recommended Posts

I still haven't made a 2nd character. I'm considering doing it now. My primary character is around 160. I'm not flooded with cash, but I'm getting sorta bored with my main guy.

What are the pros and cons of starting a second character? My biggest concern is not being able to upgrade my vehicles fully.

Should I just hold out til heists?

I wouldn't really create a second character primarily for heists.

I confess, I did make a second character but that was before the heists.

Cons

-Not a good range of clothes

-Not a good range of barber stuff

-Can't upgrade your cars as good as you want them

-Some weapons are locked until you level up

-Can't call most people for jobs until you level up more

-Can't request much from Merryweather or any other services for that matter

Pros

-You can skip the long intro plus intro jobs

-Start fresh

Not really worth it in my opinion, especially if you are high up with your current character

I enjoyed doing it all a second time, except for the race unlocks - that was a grind - but the low skills, bad weapons (I did this pre-special carbine days)and weak cars makes for a fun challenge. It's kind of a labor of love, tho - if you didn't enjoy ranking up the first time, you'll like it even less the second.

If you do it, make the second character a different gender from your first - helps keep them separate in your head and lets you see some alternate content (Lamar's opening lines to female characters are hilarious, and plays nicely on the fact that we don't speak).

Pros of having a second character:

  • If you go the M/F route, you'll have a different perspective, as cut scenes and clothing options and unfortunately how other people may treat you change based on if your character is male or female.
  • You have double the garage space, and can have different sets of vehicles (my two only have two cars shared, the Bifta and my crew's old crew car (the Sultan) -- otherwise none of the vehicles one has the other does as well).
  • It's nice to just change things up every now and again.

Cons:

  • Got to re-unlock everything, as you're starting from the beginning.
  • The only thing shared between the two characters is the money in the bank, so that's 2x the expense when new content comes out, plus all the money getting the second character caught up in purchased stuff (apartments/garages, weapons, vehicles).

Definitely agree you should go opposite gender

What's so special about playing as the opposite gender?

Different clothing options, slightly different cut scenes, better cowboy hats.

Isn't that special.

Sorry boys, I wasn't raised to dress in women's clothes. Doing it in a game? I wouldn't feel manly friendly. My feelings would come across homosexual/weird/awkward/seentoomanytransexualmovies

Just not for me - my opinion only. If you guys enjoy looking at a pixels "ass", then please yourselves. Plus I'm forgetting that a little roleplay doesn't do that much damage

Black Terminator

It's worth it in my honest opinion. It is fresh and new start. You get to live in different places that you don't live in with your first character. You also keep all your bank money since it is for both characters. Shares hold I might ad. I know this since I started a second character 3 weeks ago.

Yeah I don't know how I feel about playing as a female. I was thinking of making my second character a different race.

I did enjoy ranking up the first time. I never really 'tried' to rank up, I just played the game. I just know I'll end up spending all my cash on this second character and take away from my main when heists come out.

It may be better to wait but I'm still not sure.

Got it. You're so insecure about your sexuality that you couldn't even play a game where your character is a girl. It might turn you gay.

The idea is that you do things differently than your first play through. Different cars, different apts, different strategies for fighting maybe. Maybe do different activities like parachuting of golf that you didn't do the first time. If you're only reason for starting a second character is the challenge of leveling up again, you'll likely get bored again quickly.

Well... seeing as I'm a male, and I have the option whether I want to be a male or not in the game, why would I choose different? I'm not "insecure" about my sexuality. I'm the complete opposite. I'm just not f*cking weird

You say you're afraid you'd feel gay playing as a female character, but you're not at all insecure about your sexuality? That's hilarious!

Why does every thread turn into this bs? If you want to argue about this petty crap, go somewhere else.

On topic - I just made one. I'm going to give it a go. See how I like it. I'm used to my RPGs and fast cars so we'll see.

My main character is rank 226 and my secondcharacter is rank 59. One male, one female. As mentioned above, brings a different perspective to the game.

Heists are available from rank 12? Not sure about you guys but I believe a new player to GTA: Online wouldn't stand a chance.

Sometimes having a new character is fun. Allows you to play missions without just blowing through them like there's no tomorrow.

So does this mean that every guy that has played Tomb Raider is gay? Because you play as a female? I don't care what people think about me, however I can't help but laugh when a guy tries his luck on me when I play as my female character. Their reaction when I say I'm a guy is priceless. Not only that, since when is a girl called REXX? Hahahah!

What about the strip club? Can female characters get lap dances? I just thought about this reading this thread. Lol

I haven't tried that yet, but yeah, probably.

This is pathetic in my opinion, not that you don't like to play as the opposite gender in video games but your reasons for it. Your friends and peers would see you as 'awkward' and 'homosexual' so you don't do it, that's the least manliest thing I've heard in a while. I don't like judging people online and I'm not sure if it's just the way you put it or you really are that pathetic and immature. I don't like playing as women in games but that's because I feel I can't relate as well to the character. It sounds like you have some serious insecurity problems. Man to man you should probably seek some help about that.

I never made a second character either, it just never appealed to me although I did consider it when transferring to next-gen.

Ahh.. two people arguing about insecure sexualities and one of them thinking they're correct but doing the exact same thing.

Feels just like the youtube comment section.

OT:

Second characters just feel like something you do for a short while then delete them because you're too lazy too unlock everything again.

Sorry for the bs OP :^:

On topic - I just made one. I'm going to give it a go. See how I like it. I'm used to my RPGs and fast cars so we'll see.

I was actually about to post recommending you probably not create a second character (seeing as you were concerned about having to re-unlock everything, and the only change you'd make would be a completely superficial one with absolutely no impact on the game, how exactly would that fix the problem of being bored with your character?).

Best of luck to you with them!

As to those asking, females can do everything in the game males can do (pick up prostitutes and get lap dances at the strip club/invite them home -- just like in real life). I have a pic I took when High Life came out of a fellow crew member's female character getting a lap dance in my new apartment. Again, the only in-game differences are varied cut-scenes at the end of missions (or when introduced to Lamar and Trevor) and (vastly better) clothing options.
