AutoAim vs Free Aim - What's your Pros & Cons

Recommended Posts

I forgot to mention I suck at deathmatches in free aim, plus theyre empty.

They are not empty.. They are usually filled. but are harder to find because of less players sadly.

For me... I would love to play more free aim death matches. But the flashing screens that happen when you kill or die too many times annoy me. Coupled with the `Call lester to reveal players`. I just find PVP matches to be a little silly because of that.

Playing with AA would just annoy me even more because i hate getting locked on and locking on to players. Its almost like playing wack a mole.. especially when you just start spawning infront of players.

And to be honest... Players of all aim modes have been wanting those flashing screens and reveal players removed a long time ago...along with the combat music.

FA 'cause i'm sick of getting locked onto when driving a vehicle.

In AA, there's two ways of dealing with that...(1) take a different route, or (2) pull over and clear the path ;)

Naa, FA is better anyway.

I can't wait for the PC release to not have to worry about different aim modes, so sick of it.

I am glad that I could not give 2 f*cks about internet validation.

Well, to be fair, not all of us put our fuçks into Bane. Lol, how's it going?

Fine now. Fixing to play GTAO.

Im pretty sure the PC version will be the same. As the game will have controller support.

The honor of free-Aim on next-gen systems have been rendered pointless ever since R* introduced 'Free-Aim Assisted' players to play on the same server as those who select only 'Free-Aim'.

Why would you play on a server where an assisted free-aim player can snap-point aim on you when you can't while using free-aim only?

They can't Free Aim and Free Aim Assisted are on separate servers and can't co-mingle on the same server.

If you're getting owned in a free aim servers it's because your opponent is a good player with awesome aiming.

Excuse my dumb question. How do i join FA lobbies? I just started playing on ps4 after not playing for 1or2 years. I do find it quite boring doing missions with AA because u just hide, point, shoot repeat..

Go back to single player change aim to free aim in settings, this will become your default aiming type.

Then when you go back online you will be on a free aim server.

Now that's a surprise.

Well this wasn't the case when I tested and reported this back around December. They must have updated it then?

Thanks for testing it again. Not sure I like that now we have FOUR different aim servers when they could of just simplified it back to just Free aim/Assisted aim.

No problem, I'm glad I was able to help you out!

I believe it's always been like this, but on last gen they called free aim assisted Classic GTA or something like that.

My crew and I always had the debate assist or free aim, I'm the crew leader and said if we all want to play together and you wish to play with me then we are playing free aim and that's all there is to it.

Some people weren't happy but got used to it, one of the girls in our crew named Michele sucked at aiming so she became a master at pistol whipping opponents!

I got sucked back into auto aim when heists released because the majority of my crew are auto aimers. Honestly, I got my ass kicked, by players and npcs. The biggest issue was locking onto the wrong targets. Another thing I've noticed is that recoil is much harder to control in AA. After a few combat mg blasts, the reticule drifts about 5 feet away from the target. I was also much more wasteful with ammo because I was spamming anything I locked on rather than easily aiming at a specific body part.

Another pro to FA is that the average FA gamer is far more reliable than the average AA. I'm not saying all players in AA are incompetent, just the FA has the guys who took the game seriously enough to up the ante and make it more challenging, meaning far less griefers and newbs.

Of course you still get the guys who think they're invincible out in the open thanks to combat rolls. Just take some freaking cover, blindfire/grenade for multiple foes, or use peeping to line up a proper headshot

Auto aim is no fun, there are no prolonged shootouts. I think free aim assisted is the most realistic and most fun.

I agree... but not on a console. Free aim sucks if you're stucking using the joysticks. The low framerates make it even more frustrating.

I'll be doing a lot of free aim when the PC version hits.

. There is just 2. Both auto aim lobbies are together and so are both free aim. Doesnt make sense but thats how it is.

I think I'll test this out by trying to join a friend's free aim session while set to free aim assisted. If that's true, it's kind of a bummer. To each their own I 'spose.

Free aim can be frustrating.. But Auto Aim is plain annoying for anyone who enjoys close range combat. Because Auto aim completely ruins all close range combat and turns into a lock on or roll type of situation.

I myself love close range combat on street bikes, which means i can`t play in anything BUT free aim. Because in Auto AIm, close range combat = lock on. Basically ruining anything at close range.

Aim aim is plain silly no matter how you flip it. Just as it would seem silly if Sniper Riles had auto aim too.

. There is just 2. Both auto aim lobbies are together and so are both free aim. Doesnt make sense but thats how it is.

Thats not how it is.. Aim modes are not tied together. Not sure why people keep saying this.

There are 4 aim modes.. And you cant enter the other without switching to it.

Unpopular opinion, but i prefer FA against AI. After beating every mission and survival, it's boring and too predictable in AA. A low level mission can become a challenge in FA.

This. I joined someone's heist and it was in an auto-aim lobby.

It was so easy, I just walked into the area and started spamming L2 and R2 to lock and headshot everyone so easily. Finished the heist setup in little over 3 minutes.

I got sucked into the auto aim loop after the heist update too. For some reason, the game won't revert back to free aim, but it will revert to auto aim.

I'll say this though, as a free aim player I've been loving the PvP combat in assisted aim. I've been wrecking shop.

Players don't seem to realize they can shoot things beyond the lock on range. Soooo many uncontested kills this week on players running towards me trying to get into what they think is within range.

Crimson Flam3s

Free Aim easily. I see it as the standar since 99% of games have no aimbot, literally FA is not like some hardcore mode, to me AA is just annoying since it snaps to a random target and boring. I find FA more fun.

Gun battles can be longer, and more engaging. I just don't find it fun to be in cover constantly and whoever pulls the trigger wins. Also using free aim vs lots of enemies close together like in survivals will easily let you kill 10-15 of them in a second or 2 by straffing.

If you get good at free aim, you can practically kill just as fast as Auto Aim(not in all cases of course) but there goes AA's advantage. Then vehicle vs ground players battles are better.

Basically I don't feel I need AA and it's aiming advantage can be reproduced in FA so there is that.

If you do play AA, and wanna up your skills, I would recommend giving FA a try. When you come back to AA, you will have the absolute long range advantage.

there are 2 kinds of lobbies and each one has 2 options. Go to free aim assisted snd invite a full on free aimer. It wont make him switch. And in his setteings it will say Free Aim. Not free aim assisted like in yours. There are only 2 aim lobbies.

WRONG.

There are 4. None of which can be entered without changing to said aim mode.

I cant join Fee Aim Assisted while being in Full free Aim. Not sure who started this, but its simply not true. As myself and a few friends have tested this the moment we heard this a while back.

And you are absolutely right. And this is coming from an Auto Aimer. Playing FA once in a while (or not pushing the left trigger too much or halfway pressing R2) makes you aim better at long ranges, giving you a higher advantage over AA Only players.

IMO you should master both.

Full and partial assisted aim can play together. I play partial while my friends play full, all the time. Maybe it changed since you tested it "a while back"? Try it if you don't believe me.

I have actually. And i cannot join anyone without the game forcing me to change my aim. No matter what aim mode they are using.

Not sure why people keep saying this. You can't join anyone till the game forces you to change to their aim choice.

You might be flip flopping back and worth between the aim modes without even noticing. Which happens to me all the time.

I play using Assisted Aim: Partial with other players using Assisted Aim: Full, in the same session, without switching, regularly. You can say I'm wrong again, but then you'd be wrong. I know what I'm doing, and always notice when I am prompted to switch aim modes due to incompatible sessions.

If we are actually having different experiences of this, then there must be some other factor we have not recognized which is responsible for the difference. I don't deny you might be experiencing something different than I am. Your refusal to believe that others are experiencing something different than you are only promotes contention instead of clarity.

Well i dunno what to say man. I can`t do it without being forced to change aim.

Even sometimes when im in full free aim it sometimes tells me its changing it to full free aim when i joining a friend. Almost as if the game double checks it.

TeammateHelper

As a multiplatform gamer as well as a flat-broke GTA player, I mastered all aim styles just accepting random crap that pays me money.

I'm still not even 1 million GTA$, but whatever. Slow day today, all that stuff.

EDIT: Plus since I waste time waiting for all crew members to be ready (while I go buy more random crap), it's idle time lost on my end, but it's unavoidable.
