AutoAim vs Free Aim - What's your Pros & Cons

Recommended Posts

I prefer auto-aim over free aim because auto aim is more realistic.

Yes, you read that right: I said auto aim is more realistic.

I want you to try this little experiment. Grab so,etching in your hand: game controller, remote control, doesn't matter, just something small that you can hold sort of like a gun. Now I want you to point it at your TV screen.

Are you pointing it at your TV screen? Good. Now answer this: once you started moving, did you aim directly at the TV screen right away, or did you have to adjust your aim back and forth, maybe up or down a little bit? No, you didn't have to adjust, you just aimed directly at the TV screen right away.

Don't take this the wrong way... But that is the silliest thing i've ever read.

Unless i actually aim at my tv...its going to move unless i force myself to continually aim at it. Which is manual aim.. Because thats how free aim is.

Heres a better example on why its so silly. And a better experiment.

Turn off your tv. Blindfold yourself. Spin around 10 times a fast as possible. Now point at the TV while blindfolded and dizzy.... Chances are you are not gonna point right at the tv 1st try. But you would of if you had auto aim...

And thats why i find AA so boring... Because i can kill things blindfolded...

Lol, what the hell?! You trolling, right?

Who in the hell goes to a real life gunfight and blindfolds themselves and spins around for 10 seconds then tries to shoot a mofo.

My example was to other guy. Who claimed auto aim is realistic and gave an example. In which i pointed out just how unrealistic it is with a better example..

Not sure how its trolling or how you missed that point...

Auto Aim is for n00bs. Free Aim isn't.

And here we go again.

"F*ck you for using a different play style than mine!"

OT:

AUTO AIM.

Pros:

- Just like how the godly Ai can insta gib me, I can auto lock on their ass.

- Can lock on enemies in bushes

- This is a downside towards real players (see below) but its actually a pro against enemies. See how the enemies can auto lock on us while in cars? Yep, you can do the same in this mode. PAYBACK TIME.

Cons:

- Its a deathwish for those who use vehicles against real players.

- Most of the time the lock flies to the one that you *didn't* want to.

- Half the player base in this mode are dicks.

FREE AIM

Pros:

- You can aim at whoever you want dead.

- Its a fun challenge in SP.

- Most of the users AREN'T dicks.

Cons:

- The fight against the AI is unfair (the f*ckers can gib you even if your body isn't exposed SOMEHOW), which is why BTW I play on Assisted Aim.

- You can't get anybody to join your game now thanks to the horrible matchmaking.

- Combat Rollin kids are everywhere even here.

MY CASE

I use both modes. Its fun when you own somebody in AA lobbies using only your Free Aim skills.

IMO if you want to win you should master both. The gun range isn't the same as the lock on range obviously. That means you can attack and kill those who are in the weapon range but still too far from the auto lock.

The single reason I don't like playing in free aim free roam sessions is because majority of battles I've been in people only fought me with explosives, automatic shotguns and miniguns. Who the hell wants to have a 1-on-1 RPG fight for 10 minutes??

People go into free aim and than use weapons that require almost no precision. No thanks.

Free aim missions = really fun, though!

Free aiming a gun in real life is so much easier than this game.

Its actually a lot harder..

Go to a gun range once you are old enough.

Im 36... How much do older do i have to be?...lol

Gun range?. Ya.. nothing like shooting at a stationary target at 20-50 yards and thinking you can actually aim...lol

Try hunting... or shooting moving targets. And then tell me that free aim in GTA V is harder...lmao

Ok, you're righ, I'll follow you along. Not here to offend anyone, was laughing with you not at you until I noticed you were not laughing :D

So how is your experiment a better one, let's start here? The obstacles you put in place before I have to aim at the TV sound absurd but I'm probably missing something.

I was able to follow his logic...it i point at the TV, I'm going to point at it. And if I have to turn around and point the picture frame behind...I'm pretty sure I'll be pointing in the vicinity. (What I know I won't have to do is strife all the way to left and all the way to the right to meet the center).

Come on, when you said you can kill things blindfolded, that doesn't include players...does it? It's sounds more silly.

Im pretty sure you can come up with more insightful reasons why you truly enjoy FA...can't you.

I'm completely bored in auto aim. I just don't get what's the point of playing if the game does half the job for you. basically then it's pop out of cover, slightly tilt the left stick up, hey you headshotted another guy!

In free aim it's like a game is supposed to be, however it's not the default setting so the lobbies are quite empty.

The single reason I don't like playing in free aim free roam sessions is because majority of battles I've been in people only fought me with explosives, automatic shotguns and miniguns. Who the hell wants to have a 1-on-1 RPG fight for 10 minutes??

The same thing happens in auto aim..I always see RPGs, MiniGuns and stickies.... Difference being i don't have to deal with getting auto aimed to death by auto shottys at close range either.

Seriously... id rather eat mini guns then deal with auto aim lock on spawn wars for 10 minutes any day :D

TheJasonGallant

My pros and cons.

Free aim pros: it's free aim

Auto Aim Cons: it's auto aim

Simple as that. Auto aim sucks, to me it's no fun as there isn't any real challenge.

Getting killed by some campers using cover sure isn't fun.

And to people saying you can't play tactical in free aim, it isn't true and if you'd try, you'd see you can. And if you say you can't, you simply suck too much to do so.

It can be hard to survive in free aim if you don't play with people who suck ass.

I don't get this comment either when people claim aa is more tactical.. Its the same damn game be it auto aim or free aim..

Everyone does and acts the same way... The only difference is close/mid range combat is decided by auto aim and combat rolls. Everything out of that auto aim range goes back to free aim by default.

So basically tactical in AA means ... Know when to roll and know when to spam lock on at close/mid auto aim range.. Thats it... Nothing more then that. Other then that its the same game. But at least in FA you can avoid being shot at close to mid range using other 'tactics' besides rolling.. Since there is no lock on.

Key words in my post was "majority of battles". I never said explosives and mini guns aren't used in auto aim sessions.

Sounds like you just have terrible luck in auto aim, because in auto aim sessions, explosives and miniguns are not used nearly as much as they are in free aim. In all of my experiences, automatic weapons (excluding the shotgun) are used waaaay more in auto aim sessions than free aim. And no, i didn't say people don't use the auto shotgun a lot in auto aim sessions. Anyways, sounds like you are exactly where you belong in free aim if you prefer getting killed by mini guns than assault rifles.

You are interesting. First you tell me you prefer to be in last place in races (before you start "explaining" to me why being in last place is "better", trust me... I get it...) and don't mind being crashed off the road now you're telling me you prefer to get killed by mini guns instead of regular weapons. You and I shouldn't even discuss things like this with one another because we obviously are VERY different when it comes to preference lol.

Hello,

Is anyone willing to help me compile the pro's and con's that people replied with in order to edit the OP? Going to have to clean up some of the replies (not all) being that they're coming off too biased.

Any help would awesome, we could split the load...smaller load with the more that are willing to help.

Edit: these are the times I wish I had a point and click mouse, not to mention a computer!

I never enter a auto aim session without a bullet proof car due to lock ons... So...unless they whip out a RPG or minigun. They are not gonna kill me.

I myself spend a stupid amount of time in AA even tho i dislike it.. And i can tell you... Its the same thing. The moment they can't lock you because you are out of range they will whip out the RPGs. and Mini guns.

In close range.. Its always autoshotties or assault rifles regardless of aim mode.. At least i can't get locked on in free aim. At least if i keep moving in free aim i have a chance to not get hit. Not gonna happen in AA.

Besides. in free aim i can actually be offensive in combat on a street bike... Can't do that in AA... ever.

You understand what I'm saying? Lol

TheGoodSgtScooter

Literally the only downside to auto aim is locking onto someone you don't want to lol...and that can be fixed by using the interaction menu and putting friend aa to low...

Lag compensation. I roll on my screen, breaking the lock, I stand still on yours, letting you lock on. It's the entire reason I don't like auto aim pvp.

You are not lying about those combat rolls...I'm a combat rolling mofo in AA. I thought I was going to leave that behind...nope. It's about the same.

Scrub. Sorry.

Apology accepted, man. Wanna meet for tea @6p, good 'ol chap?

I only drink Coffee, Black. Make it strong.

Only difference to me are the players.

You get the same psychos in both lobbies, trying to run you over etc. In auto aim it'll be a giggling squeaker on the mic and in free aim its a fat 45 year old calling everyone a c*nt.

Just depends who you're in the mood for fighting with.

I'll meet you there, bloke. Buy mines while you're there, I'll be running late.

OT: Some guys don't know when to quite. Hey, question I always wondered about...did you have to get use to the flow of traffic in GTA because you know different flow of traffic in the US vs. UK? Or have you guys adapted to our style being that we force feed you what we want while facing us on your knees?

EDIT: Goddammit! I take that back, that's low. I won't respond anymore, sorry bro. Sorry Community. It comes out every so often, it won't happen again. Logging off.

The irony arises when you realise you're on a forum about a game that was in fact made in the UK.

Free Aimers play in the same lobby as free aim assisted players.

Anyone that plays straight free aim has a huge disadvantage going up against someone behind cover with assisted on.

Go to a gun range once you are old enough. Its easy to shoot at a target, shooting at a person is a lot different. Ive seen a guy unload a whole pistol mag at someone and miss every shot. Edited by Dest45
Nah nah nah Gta 6

I don't really care what mode everyone chooses, I chose Auto Aim because of the AI having Auto aim, so that makes me stand a chance against.

I don't suck at free aim, I have used it, but I just prefer auto aim.
