The Slidey Cars Guide (How To Drive in V)

Recommended Posts

Pastry

So, I did give a try and it's awesome, thanks for the tip. Best time I had driving in V.

Same here. I caught quite a few good clips of using the cheat. Also did a street race with it and won. Simply amazing. Pushing the Adder to it's limits is even more intense than most of the racing games I've played. This is one of those rare times that I will use cheats in GTA.

I tried this (PS4) and I honestly fail to see what the appeal is. Basically, the cheat slices through your brake cable so that L2 does nothing to help stop you.

Also, why does the screen judder when you pull away from a standing position?

I play in first-person, so don't know if this is the reason for the camera shake.

Is it easy enough to have both keyboard/mouse and xbox controller all setup and active at the same time? For example you could drive with xbox controller then go to mouse and keyboard seamlessly as you exit a vehicle.

When I finally build a PC I plan to make some sort of stand for the controller that comes out from under the desk so that I can do that without having to put down a controller every time I switch.

This is what I do when I play IV. Use the controller for driving/flying, switch to KB+M for everything else. Works great, it's a seamless transition.

edit: Been trying this cheat out a lot more. I've been testing with a Massacro, Elegy RH8, Rapid GT, Coquette, Vigero and Buccaneer. I think so far my favourite is the Coquette, closely followed by the Vigero. The Coquette feels really solid on the road, doesn't seem to slide all over the place like some others.

For sh*ts and giggles I strapped a turbo on a Regina and went for a rip to Paleto Bay. That was fun!

Updated OP with fresh content, 0-60 & 0-120mph times for a variety of vehicles with some very interesting findings and the 'why you should be using slidey cars' section, stuffed everything into spoilers tags so it's easier to navigate.

Great info OP, here's another video using the cheat code:

How are you timing the speeds? I though it would be interesting to record a certain path with stock and slidey variation, record the differences, would that be of any interest to the thread?

I'm using my iPhones stopwatch, an airstrip and one hand on the controller and one hand on the stop watch, I take about 2-3 runs to each speed or more if I don't think I got the timing virtually right, or the launch as good as it could be.

There was a big (some times second(s) difference in the times when I lost traction during launch, most if not all the times I've posted would reflect optimal launch with the best possible power without loss of traction.

Annoying to do but got the hang of it and it's pretty easy now.

Yeah I've often thought about that but it would require me to use normal driving hahaha, nah but if I had great internet and a capture card I'd be doing bulk comparison videos, anything that further proves how much better the cheat is than standard driving is welcomed and useful here!

I tested cars with and without the slidey cheats and found out that, the difference isn't as big as the dials show.

Most cars indeed have a limit of 120mph+ normally but a the cheat doesn't actually give you 200mph.

With the 2 vehicles I used, the max speed was actually around 140/145mph, still better than nnothing :)

@uNi, thanks, that's awesome, the difference is huge, if you liked I could pop that into the OP somewhere, giving you the credit for it of course.

@crimsonflames, you definitely can get 200mph out of a range of vehicles, most cars fully upgraded should be able to push past 150, what two cars were those by the way?

Also I forget to mention all the time that there are some cars that seem to keep the speed cap, the sultan is one of those :(

@boss302, thanks mate, hope you enjoy it.

@ourjud, cars have brake lines, not cables, dumb exaggerations aren't welcome here, the brakes DO stop you and they do so quite realistically, it's not for everyone, some lack the forward thinking to time braking and high speed manoeuvres in a game, that's fine.

The differences on a Schafter:

Hahahahaha non-slidey cars look soooo slow. I'd like to see what Stock cars rather than Upgraded cars with Slidey Cars cheat perform like.

It is a big difference, I don't mind recording what you suggested. Just looking for some kind of standard so all the videos end up looking the same.

So maybe Stock vs Slidey Stock and Max vs Max Slidey?

As for the patch taken, I was thinking that airstrip bit for speed and then find a nice road to test out the handling? Any suggestions on that? Preferentially would be a road where we can replicate the environment any time, like, there's that bridge on the industrial zone where there's always a bunch of trucks in the left lane and the right lane is always clear for a few miles.

I often wonder how when there will be large scale modifications to the handling file, how this will impact the Slidey Cars cheat.

It's probably just a multiplier.

The differences on a Schafter:

I dont have the time to make vids like this but have to give props for that. Slidey cars has ruined normal driving, and after watching videos of GTA IV, I cant ever consider going back to that slowness.

With this cheat you can get some pretty hard car crashes and they feel more natural since you lose control of your car after the crash and it slides around for a while. I've been using this cheat since a long time and it should definitely be an option instead.

Probably a result of what you posted about the wrecks, but the damage seems different....or maybe I just think it is lol. If not different it seems to look more true to the force of the impacts. Before it seemed like not a big wreck but would have a descent scar on the vehicle. Now it seems like little scrapes make a little scrape and a hard slide into a pole dents the hell out of them.

@uNi if it were on me I'd probably be driving a road out the back of vinewood, getting good results is really just a matter of how well/consistently you can drive, knowing corners, braking distances and how to predict traffic spawns, alternitavely you could use Trevor's cletus glitch for no traffic and do it that way, still requires good driving but without having to know how to predict traffic, only the sounds of vehicles are reduced very dramatically which is frustrating as hell.

If anyone's interested in drifting, proper drifting, you NEED to go get a massacaro, max it out, take it to a good windy downhill section, the let off accel tap handbrake and get back on accel (gotta do it all fast) can push that car through such big corners sideways as hell, you'll see what I mean when you get used to it, best drifting I've done in V hands down.

Anyways, looks like I start work on Tuesday, won't have nearly as much time for this as I do now.

I did try using Trevor's glitch, the problem is I can't use the cheat during that mission neither access my garage.

Try entering the mission with the cheat already enabled it should work, it has for me, just don't fail the mission, if you do quit it, then go away and come back and do it again.

I've never completed the mission, so I wouldn't know if it will work on a replay.

Also I swear i have used trevors garage while in that mission, Possibly only works before you kill the last elk, or after I cant remember...

The purchasable garage is the one i meant, if you can't get it to work, you might have to use his trailer/strip club ones.

I am just certain I managed to purchase vehicles and enter the purchasable garage while in the mission, but that was a while ago, I pretty much never play as trevor, so it was a while ago last time i used the mission/glitch, which reminds me, in my saves his driving skill is only at 80, it goes up so damn fast to 100 with slidey cars on, which means slidey cars increases your driving skill a hell of a lot faster, provided you don't drive like a blind man, only seeing as skills are pretty useless in this game and max pretty quickly, theres no real point in OPing that.

If this was a game setting like free-aim/auto-lock I'd still be playing V. It's pretty frustrating that the bugs in single player were never addressed.

Hey!

I completely forgot about this cheat, I remember using it when I first got the game but quickly fell in love with the new car handling.

Tried it again last night on my 360 while playing as Trevor, driving a Primo. I must say that a Primo with slidey cheat is vintage gta4 :)

I must also warn anybody that uses the cheat on 360 with zero dlc content...

I was messing around with slidey cheat enabled and damaged my front headlights and bumper, so I used the 'free repair' glitch / bug by changing into Franklin, I changed back to Trevor and the vehicle was repaired but the slidey cheat stopped working.

I typed the cheat again, it said 'slidey cheat deactivated' entered the cheat again, it said 'slidey cheat enabled' but the slidey handling was gone :(

Also, to get the most out the cheat, don't upgrade your suspension as it severely loosens the handling and makes the car feel lighter.

Still a fun alternative to the new stiff handling thanks OP! :)

Hm, good point about the suspension, I usually use the competition ones, will give it a try.

One more thing, don't know if it's 360 only but the cheat does cause some extreme rapid bounce effects in hood cam.

I personally don't mind this as it adds the feeling of driving on a bumpy road, not as 'marshmellow' as gta4 but still tolerable for me at least

Had a blast driving Franklin's Buffalo (maxed out) with slidey cars, did a huge lap from LS Beaches to Paleto Bay via GOH, then back to LS via GSH.

The most fun parts are at the army base, and Paleto Bay. Loved the curve of the road on Paleto Bay, while pushing the Buffalo to the limits below Fort Zancudo.

No need for an option, once we can mod .meta files as we can then make a realistic handling mod. SC is fun, but only because we don't have anything else. It still lacks decent suspension and the grip is like ice at times.
