So why aren't you working for Rockstar? Clearly you have knowledge in this field and know how to work around this problem that, as you say, almost every game has? What are you doing posting on GTAF? Get out there and sell yourself!! Higher resolution shadow maps? You realize that's why GTAIV is a sh*t port right? GTA 4's port was not because of higher resolution shadow maps. Its Rockstar's lack of experience with RAGE engine back then, it was crap port across all the platforms. Cutter De Blanc Posted February 25, 2015 Share Posted February 25, 2015 It's cuz the shadow map light occlusion sourcing does not mesh with the bump texture maps. The internal resolution is way off and their splines aren't reticulated properly. See, I can spout buzz words too, what does this stuff mean to me, the layman, and are they able to fix it? Says alot about your knowledge on forums. What people like you , gunziness and cp1dell misunderstand is the fact that most threads in this section (V section) cover one thing over and over again, alot of people and forum veterans (not to say I am a forum veteran, but I do log in everyday) are sick of seing the same thread all the time, and mostly threads like these that are about whining on V, see its all the same thing - just nitpick done in a very cheap fashion. People love to hate this game, and people like the OP tries to find these little things about V.... And BAAAAM make an entire f*cking thread about it. Instead of occupying the V section so much, why doesn't people (haters) go to the SA section and brag about how horrible the graphics are. Or better yet, go to the IV section and brag about why there isn't character customization or planes... Actually that wouldn't work because IV has a legendary untouchable reputation in this forum, but anyways. See, its all the same thing, whine and brag. It has come to the point that I have proabably seen over 30 topics covering the same sh*t over and over again. And the worst thing about it is that V section is always full with threads on its negatives parts. I really like how you say this, yet I've never seen this brought up before, and I'll say it again - nobody was really "whining or nitpicking." The whole, "shadows moving when the player moves" is just something we noticed and thought was odd. But people like you keep blowing this out of proportion. If you've seen my posts, I'm usually giving people sh*t for complaining about the most mundane things. This topic is not one of those times. A few people simply noticed something odd, and everyone flipped the f*ck out because we're not praising the game and saying it's perfect. What a bipolar and vicious f*cking cycle this is. But yeah - the trees, the rollercoaster, the shadows - tiny things that people should notice, but not linger on. After all, if you're spending time staring at trees to check their moving, or at the rollercoaster to see if it's moving, or at shadows to see if they look 100% realistic... if you're spending hours doing that, what are you not doing? You're not playing the game. And if you're not playing the game, what's the f*cking point in even owning the game or the console? You (the people, not You, Osho) will never, ever be happy with any game, until you've played it for years and years and years and assimilated it into your brain as a positive experience. If you're letting the bullsh*t of advanced technology dictate whether or not you can enjoy something, you may be suffering from some form of Anhedonia or other depressive illness that prevents you from having fun. Ahem, you're clearly not living life yourself if you're complaining about others at any point. You've mentioned it not, as an observation, so CLEARLY you're not living life.What's the point in having a life if making a simple observation in a post about something you've noticed about others. Or, is it possible, you've been able to make this post and still focus on other things about the forum and life? The miracle of human thought being able to process different things. kBlaise Posted February 26, 2015 Share Posted February 26, 2015 The "problem" is that an in-game day roughly equals an hour in real life (correct me if I'm wrong, anyway the point is that it's obviously much shorter). And apparently R* didn't want to use continously moving shadows because they thought those would "ruin" relatively static scenes and would appear distractive and weird (rightly so, because real life shadows do not move that fast). So whenever your character is not moving, the shadows around you stay still (in most cases). Once you start walking / driving, the shadows start moving again and compensate by rushing back to their "actual" position. So this is not about console performance or normal maps or shadow maps etc. It's merely a pretty clever trick (though sometimes it looks peculiar). Sorry if I'm not the first one pointing this out, I haven't scanned the entire thread. FatGirlTrevorHatesOn Posted February 28, 2015 Share Posted February 28, 2015 I did find this odd considering the moon shadow seems to constantly be moving and looks great. I had pinned it down more to realism than any bug/issue though! As the in game days move so fast staring at moving shadows looks a bit daft so it makes sense to have them move as you do so the day/night cycle is a bit smoother. I think it works quite well. That is. Unless you stop and stare at a shadow for 8/9 minutes and don't play the game.
