[WIP|BETA|SA] GTA: Underground - Mod Discussion

If we want to convert Bullworth, we need proper tools to import its files into 3ds max and we could then fix and export meshes one by one to RW format.

And this is the real problem with Bully models, there is no worcking importer for them. The format of the nif files, used in Bully is well known, but someone have to write the importer.

 

I'm writing some kind of big project update soon. I have confirmed that MLL will be added, as well as LC, VC and SA. The big project update will update the main topic and I will describe all locations, in detail with a few screenshots to describe them. Once I am done with converting LC files, which is a modder's hell, since we can't include III's prelightning because there's no way to correct it unless our tool writer (with more modding experience) finds one. Ofcourse, I could find a way to add some nice-looking prelightning, but untill then, let's just focus on the maps first so we can see how the engine handles our map.

We could fix any neccessairy bugs that we came accross, like some missing collisions around when we were converting maps, but in my opinion, we should write some kind of base-version and start our optimizing/improvements from there. One city at a time.

 

EDIT: Well, speaking about the "big project update", the name doesn't feel right after reviewing my post.

Basicly I didn't change any of the current plans yet. I'm just planning to describe them all so everyone can read them.

I dont want to use maps from GTA United. Although VC and LC in United will basicly look like Underground Beta 1.0 because we are going to do the same on the LC/VC maps.

 

Also I don't think we will get alot of good reviews if we were using United's maps. We would look very uncreative with our work, and besides, we are going for the SOL SA version with recreated stuff from United (using OUR work, the maps would look the same but we wont use theirs.)

Having these two mods kinda blended in with eachother, the result will be quite awesome to see.

 

Just imagine having all SA features in SOL InFusions. That would rock.

Using complete maps from United is may be really not a good idea, but some stuf like buildings with fixed rooftops or interiors from United would feat good into the mod. Also the gang script from United would solve some problems.

EDIT: Today I started on modelling Atlanta. I don't have a name for it yet, and if anyone has a good name for it, we'll use it.

 

I'm not done yet, no, not at all. The models must be done nicely. This might not look so good now, but after a few days/weeks it will start to look like a real GTA city. Well, I would try to load some of these models once I get to it. I don't have years of modelling experience, infact, i'm technically still a beginner, but still, I know enough to create the city layout I've got in mind.

I actually had a name for Atlanta...

 

Dogwood City. which is Atlanta's real nickname...

I'm not being sarcastic, I will put up a temporary poll-only topic and we will remove it after a few weeks/months. I just like the name Atlantis, because it feels like a GTA-styled city.

Red is currently taking a small break and he'll either convert MH/MH2 levels for non-stories version or he will work on the LCS conversion. I already ported it to SA for him, and I ported it to our SOL layout. He did some nice things with the map so far. He's already using binairy IPL stuff while I'm not. Could explain why models are dissappearing.

 

Anyways, on topic guys, I have taken a look at Red's work, and he's doing generic IPL files now. Expect street poles, signs, and other street furniture to be added around the map.

Nah. That wouldn't feel right. Maybe blending some of the Stories changes in would be nice to see. Like InFusions did it.

I'm loving the re-mastered maps, sadly stuff is left unfinished and the maps are lacking traffic, and stuff to do.

That's what I'm going for with MLL. Remastered city, with traffic, and stuff to do.

Modelling a street layout is quite difficult accually. After I'm done with modelling, I have to sort every single model out and I'll have to split some models up into smaller models, optimize the meshes, and give them textures.

 

The result ingame will be pretty awesome to see.
