Octane
I am, but a young, bright child seeking wisdom from within my online community. I am in my 2nd semester year of Middle School and I am trying to graduate, when I make it to High School, I was wondering if there is any life lesson tips I can have for college and high school? What I would really like to know is how Honors classes benefit me, (I'm in normal classes), and what college should I get into, I currently want to get into a college or university for Programming and Game coding. All I want is life advices and lessons that's all Edited February 22, 2015 by IIOctaneII

epoxi
I currently want to get into a college or university for Programming and Game coding. All I want is life advices and lessons that's all Programming is a very useful skill and knowing C++ or Java etc. will help you greatly in life no matter what industry you choose. That said, unless you are a die-hard gamer who absolutely loves games, I would stay away from game design (as an employee at least) as you will be treated like dirt. People who want to work on A++ video games come a dime a dozen so publishers make them work 100+ hours a week for 'nothing special' pay, and to top it off you often get fired once the game is complete. If you don't believe me, just read the employee reviews of the makers of our favourite game: http://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/Rockstar-Games-Reviews-E20887.htm I think working on industry problems is the way forward, every business needs software to adapt and solving even the smallest problems for a big business can save a lot of money which in turn goes to you and your company. These problems may seem dry at first, but you get to learn a lot more than you would working on games, which in turn puts you in a much better position career-wise. In fact, I would go so far as to say business is far more interesting because you are always working on something different, while with video games you will be 'the guy who scripts the behaviour of a wheel of a car' and that one thing is all you will do for 6 months. I was writing a long wall of text before i realized a thing: Dont freaking ask that question in this forums. Go ask the devs themselves, go to a convention like GDC or a Game Jam, the internet is also full of videos of such conventions where people will describe how they got in the industry. Ken Levine and Gabe Newell are my favorite references, they will explain you much better whats the difference between AAA, small, independent and Indie studios. Before Polygon became sh*t they also made a lot of good interviews and features: http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/10/3853198/ken-levine-bioshock-infinite-vgas https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ken+levine You can also check the pages of most studios to see what kind of jobs they need and what kinds of careers are you expected to take; http://jobs.zenimax.com/ http://www.hellogames.org/jobs/ Also, send e-mails, people like Gabe Newell are famous for answering all their e-mails. And above everything, make games, choose your preferred tool (Unity, UDK, or even Gamemaker), and start making stuff now. Also for programming you must LOVE MATHS, if u no love maths youre basically out. The Indie industry doesnt give a damn about what you studied and most studios will just care about the career you studied, no where did you take it. If your school offers free math tutoring then you should put upon yourself to show up for it. Edited February 22, 2015 by PinkRibbonScars

The Indie industry doesnt give a damn about what you studied and most studios will just care about the career you studied, no where did you take it. This is true. Something I realized when I started to do some C++ experiments in an attempt to be a programmer is that you MUST be good at math. Really, you should start now, practice a lot. About the career I'm not so sure. My two advices: Try to do what YOU want to do in life, no matter how crazy it is. If you fail (because you should know that is a possibility too), get up and keep doing you're best. The second one is, focus in yourself. Try to be better today than you were yesterday. Some competition is fine, but don't be that guy who is constantly pointing out what is wrong with other people's actions, like you are the owner of the truth. QuackinAColdOne
You will not be picked on for being a freshman as much as you think, unless you're on a sports team though. Don't give upperclassmen money for lunch, they won't bully you for it, but once you give it to them once, they won't stop. That's how I'm always able to buy an extra drink Don't be a douchey, stereotypical freshman. Upperclassmen will like you if you're not annoying. Be able to take a joke, unless someone lays a hand on you, don't take it seriously.

krashr
i wouldn't say 100% ineffective.. if your girl is especially parched in that area and you're not a fan of lube, it can sometimes be more comfortable for her if your loving is done in a pool, spa, creek, ocean, bath, bucket of jelly, etc. source: "smashn grannies- a comprehensive guide for lads who love loose skin" Edited February 23, 2015 by krashr

xoC18H21NO3xo
I hope this helps. If I could go back in time to the age and grade you're currently in, I would become the world's biggest nerd. Seriously, I would do like Einstein and by 5 of the same jacket, pants/skirt, etc. and always wear the same thing (though clean). I would not try to make friends unless they were doing the exact same thing as I am. Get straight A's, master as much of known mathematics as possible. Don't wait until school to study; this means instead of watching tv or doing video games during summer breaks, study anything and everything you can get your hands on. Cool looking people just look cool, but Not-so-cool-looking people that study go on to be the richest people in the world. Money isn't everything, but the freedom it can give you in a capitalistic society is amazing. Saikou
