Radeon R9 290x questions

Recommended Posts

I have the opportunity to buy a radeon r9 290x watercooled with a kraken g10 bracket and an antec khuler 620 radiator for about 200$ canadian.

I already have a GTX 690 wich is really fast and dual gpu, but for the price I'm wondering if I could buy it and maybe take advantage of the 4gb vram.

In a worst case scenario, I try to sell it at the same price.

What are your thought and experiences with the 290x.

Do you recommend it, and how are the radeon driver nowadays?

Honestly a 290x would be more of a downgrade. Sure it's a strong card and a generation newer but games that support SLI are going to perform better with the 690.

That being said, $200 for a 290x is quite a deal. I suppose you could make the switch and buy another card for crossfire when the 300 series drops if you wanted to.

Thanks yojo2 for the answer. My gtx 690 is way faster than the gtx 780ti I had, so not sure even the 290x will be faster.

But since I like to test different configurations and buy and sell often computer parts I might give it a go.

Forgot to say the card is used. But I usually buy used and never had problems.

Thanks, TheMcSame for your answer. That's a little bit how I think too. The 690 brings me a lot of performance in sli.

Even when running games in single gpu gives me good performance, but the drawback for the future is the VRAM on the card.

I still can't believe Nvidia didn't go for 4gb of vram per gpu instead of the 2gb.

Crossfiring in the future could be an option too if I like the card.
