Will GTA Online game modes ever top IV game modes?

I doubt it...

Turf War, Cops 'n Crooks, Mafiya Work, Car Jack City, Bomb da Base II, Dealbreaker, and Hangman's NOOSE were something special. Hell, even Deathmatches were better in IV (no Power-Play and no annoying on-screen filter when you are on a killing streak).

Races were better too. (No "catchup" or "slipstream") Just straight up racing.

Thoughts?

Drunken Cowboy

Are you saying you find car chases and gunfights more exciting than tennis and golf?

I pray for your soul.

I agree. My favorites were Bomb the Base II, DMs and I loved the racing. It actually took skill. V racing is disgusting and how and why the fvck is catch up a thing? Seriously, whoever came up with catch up needs to have his car sticky'd IRL. I also feel the gun mechanics were much better, for DMs you needed to burst fire headshots

4's gamemodes were a bit better

the lack of stupid, crippling filters in deathmatch is sorely missed

as for racing... while i agree that catchup not existing was better, slipstreaming is a good feature, but R* needs to work on it badly. not to mention, the driving physics in 4 sucked complete ass in my opinion.

the other gamemodes were fun though.

To be fair, I think the Player vs NPC missions in GTA V are better. Bomb da Base and Hangman NOOSE were great, but they could all be completed in little more than 10 minutes. In GTA V we have plenty of missions like that (and the user-made ones are even better at some points).

However, PVP took a sharp decline in GTA V. The lack of proper jumping and climbing mechanics, inability to crouch, gun recoil made bursting useless, sh*tty instagram filters if you get a killstreak (how the hell am I supposed to continue the killstreak if all I see now is red?!) and the biggest sin of all: catch-up, which is deliberate rubberbanding for ONLINE.

There's over 100 bomb DA bases style missions lol. IV doesn't even come close. Only complaint is the roid rage cops. Grinding hangman's noose to level up lmao. Don't get me wrong IV was fun as sh*t and served its purpose. I liked GTA races best BTW.

As far as game modes are concerned, I think both IV and V are great. I love IV's deathmatch, Cops N Crooks and N.O.O.S.E, but I like the missions and survivals for GTA Online.

I miss the customization of matches and lobbies on IV. Also, it feels like on GTA Online, they get too involved in the deathmatches and try to 'level' the playing field with annoying filters and odd advantages/disadvantages. Those filters, the whole rolling thing and the awkward blips are like a form of catchup for deathmatches.

It would also be nice if we could set the match to a particular weapon only, but actually keep our ammo. I don't play Forced, because we only get a clip and then somewhere there is an overpowered weapon stashed on the map. It's a no win situation, because on Owned, you get the rocket and grenade spammers.

Name one mission better than Bomb the Base II! ....Thats what I thought you can't! Even the way the mission is structured is better with checkpoints so the randoms wont rush through the mission like they're going to sh*t their pants. 8 players, fun, literally years of replay value and no man left behind. Ahhh I wish I still had my PS3

GTA V for racing (provided it is a fun race; 30 supercars on a two-lane freeway is not a fun race), IV for everyone else. I have never logged onto GTA V saying "Gee, I can't wait to play Tennis!".

We'll see how heists in Online do, but until then I would say GTA IV had better activities (besides racing).

I'm sorry, but I'd rather have 20 good jobs than just 1 well structured mission. "Years of replay value" means nothing when the mission turns into a grind.

As for a better mission, I'll get back to you on this one. I have to look in my playlist for this one capture mission in which two teams have to skydive from Vestras towards the building in construction, then fight their way through npc's and get 5 suitcases that they have to deliver.

All of this with a 10 minute limit and only pistols/smgs available.

Edit: Found it! It's called "Contend: High on Priority". I also recommend the "Sea Base Assault" Deathmatch, which in my opinion is one of the very few deathmatches that are better than IV's.

Mafia Work was very fun, and thats what I expected GTAV freeroam to be like. Instead jobs are nothing but load times, meh.....

Deathmatches and races are the only basic modes. GTA 5 has it's own unique modes like capture and contact missions which is kind of similar to Bomb da base, hangmans NOOSE etc... But Cops n Crooks was the best tbh. Why they still don't have it included is beyond me. the Dukes isn't going to cut it Rockstar, considering it's only for returning players LOL.

Slipstreaming grants the player behind too much of a boost imo. Not fun when you're near the finish line and someone is right behind you.

the problem with slipstreaming is that it's way too over-exaggerated. realistically, slipstreaming gives you a steady increase in speed- it doesn't slingshot you passed the car in front of you, turning a race into a game of leap frog until someone gets flung off the road

This. It's just slipstream, stay 1st, get slipstreamed by another person, slipstream again and the chain goes on and on... It breaks when someone else rams and grinds against your car, thus spinning you out. I don't mind slipstream that much but it's effectiveness for easy overtakes should be reduced. Catchup on the other hand is a big no no. Whoever thought of this idea needs to be tied up in public for a few hours while GTA players get in a line to throw condoms at him/her for 50p each.

Racing in IV was way better. No slipstreaming, catchup, none of those stupid f*cking gimmicks. Just pure racing. And if you hit an object/wall, then well, you're f*cked.

IV is IV, V is V, there are things you like, and things you hate,

i like how IV has the ability for one to make things how one wants it to me, though it lacks in diversity,

which just becomes who can use the terrain better(some one hides in bohan where the abandon building with multiple levels, near the south side, i can climb onto the metro, and just sit there, aim, and Combat Snipe them, without them knowing where i was, but it was all the same), and people wouldn't even at times play the game for its objective, cause they can play as long as they want, just to kill, the target, while my team runs, in blazing, and im just blocks away, aiming my sniper at the boss/guards, in the middle in the road not a care in the world, and remotely took him out.

when i raced in IV, it was better as in you could use any of the raceable vehicles at your disposal, even emegency(though people use the sirens to put the NPC's in your way.

but IV is not as responsive, or can do what ever you like with a wide variety

i like how with V, there are many things you can pursue, a higher diversity, even if one has done everything once, does not mean, one has completed the game,

but it lacks in structure, like in (T)DM, youll get people in Owned+Pickups using only their op weapons, Forced+Pickups is best, everyone has the chance for all the weapons(except when its the BS matches that really should be deleted), and forced weapons, people don't try it, but there is no harm in it, as long as its actually worth playing.

as for racing, im sure all of us that prefer it to be like Nonchalant Dominance's M.C.E.C.hampionship, see who really is great, even if your in the worst car in the whole race. or randoms that are skilled, prefer to keep assists off, by standard(which R* hasn't given yet)

all is fine till people start pulling lester's # out of thin air, and use the highest value/damage items, and don't try make it fun or mix it up as much as it allows. and people complain its not up to par, or better than a predecessor, and go off to rain on others parade, cause theirs is empty. though the trend for GTAO, is take the easy way out, or clear and cut, with everything you can do as it was with IV

in short, we need things out of both, game modes are fine, we just ain't getting out of it as much as we possibly can(some of us do), some of us take the easy way out, and end up hating, or being all moody(like taking the easy way out sounds like), when with V we literally have so much time to play with, but to much other -'s in game to see it, or ridiculous modes in the way to see,

wish you all a wonderful GTA ONLINE experience,

V doesn't have sh*t on IV

At least IV is playable and more diverse in some aspects. It's online was more thought out I should say. Despite the absence of any content based updates it still stayed strong and lasted for several years. Good times.

Loooooooool op

I know right? I don't play unfinished broken garbage that's plagued with 12 year olds in chrome Adders, Passive Mode scrubs, "Bad Sport" stats (IN A FREAKING GTA GAME, COME ON PEOPLE...) et cetera...

I'll save the headaches.

Funny, I don't play unfinished, broken garbage either!

The ONLY thing IV did better was the story writing.

Why are you posting as much as you do in the gta online section if you don't play the game and seem as if you don't like it at all.
