Are New Characters too OP?

Back in the day, before all of these Update Content weapons were added (i.e. The special carbine, homing missiles, marksmen rifle,) players actually had to rank up to get decent weapons made available to them permanently.

Now, for those new players, or old players starting a new character, all of these new characters have a access to great weapons for every single weapon class (except the MGs).

I was able to start a new character, and at rank 20 somethin, I was out killing a decent guy I was fighting who ranked 100 somethin, who had a full arsenal, at a ratio of like 3-1. Part of this is all relative to skill, but regardless of how good I am, it would have been a LOT tougher to fight without explosives, a sniper, and a rifle.

Do you guys thinks it's fair? Is it unfair? Does it even make a difference? Should the Update weapons have rank requirements?

Personally I think these young bucks have it too good >__> they need to be forced to used the starter pistol till like, I don't kno, Rank 99 or somethin.

All of them should have rank requirements. I worked for my sh*t, they should do too.

Especially the homing launcher and the prox mines.

They still have to pay for the weapons. If this forum is any idication, apparently money is soooo hard to come by, so I guess it's fine.

I do wish they were level locked for one reason, so the tints could also be kill count locked.

I definitely think that the homing launcher & proximity mines should have been level locked, but honestly I'm not too bothered with the other weapons being available to anyone.

yeah that pisses me off how someone whos level 1 could easily kill me if i let my guard down cause they bought a bullpup rifle, thats retarded and all DLC weapons should have rank requirements, let those lazy bastards earn their sh*t, GTAO is just a mess. The game is less fun when everything is given to you on a silver platter.

I feel like it is very unfair. We used to be exited to see that unlock message saying "You can now purchase the carbine rifle" etc. Nowadays it isn't even a worry for newcomers as they have access to the Advanced Rifle and things off the bat. I think some DLC weapons could be raised to a level cap over the hundreds but Rockstar get flamed no matter what they do no matter how they do it. There will always be people arguing. They make DLC free and have the cheek to rank cap guns! They will all say -_-

When it comes to the tough questions like this one, I always turn to to the wisdom of the Bible:

"For GOD so loved the noobs that He sent to them His only begotten Son, the Homing Launcher, that the rockets of His wrath might be a bulwark and a comfort to His chosen children against the forces of SATAN and his Zentorno Drivers of the Trollpocalypse."

I don't begrudge them the fact they can buy all that hardcore weaponry right from the off, but put it this way if it was up to me I would have level locked it all.

I got no issues with it. Their lack of skill will be their downfall.

Maybe that's why that guy was so eager to fight me lol. Thought me an easy target. Smh

But taking one look at my k/d and crew rank should have told him I wasn't a new player...

id like it, if the weapons where rank locked, cause, if R* releases the next 3 slots(unless they happen to be 2LG/2NG/1pc), and i make another character, id want to be able to hunt people at the same low level as i am at the beginning in (T)DM's with only a pistol, and get it to LSPD(now, and not later), and them happen to pull out their weak Assault sniper/proximity/homing,

it be only fair to those of us that played before them,

and can help them, and us improve, and not complain to anyone saying how can i go against 3 other people(lower than their level), when any of us can get out of that jam without sweating

Its gonna go both ways. Most players that actually worked for these weapons will say its unfair. Those just starting are going to want everything right away and will complain about getting slaughtered by higher ranked players.

R looks at it as new players need a way to defend themselves or their gonna get tired of the game real quick.

I started really playing online in january last year. I had to work for all my weapons. Took my beatings from high ranked players like a man and Im still here and kickin.

R puts this out as an adult game but they know damn well how many children are playing it and unfortunately they must cater to these children to keep making money.

I just started a second character, I joined a contact mission (high rank), a mission I did before, I had bought marksman rifle before (never used it before), and did not like it, prefer the sniper.

I have also bought the homing launcher & proximity mine, not used them yet, but I have the money for ammo for them, no interest in highend aprtment or cars, just the bikes.

The weapons certainly help to some level in a deathmatch with the setting owned.

I have been using the locked weapons ever since I got to Rank 15 - Heavy Sniper, Sticky Mine, Rocket Launcher, Minigun, Grenade Launcher (until I go to new session, even used them in owned deatchmatches), so unlocking them at a certain rank made no difference to me.

If they're a new character with no experience, it shouldn't matter what kind of weapon they have. You should be able to spank them anyway.

Your signature says you are on the ps4 correct? On the ps3 you might have felt a little differently.

When the marksmen first came out, it was revolutionary. It's the only sniper you can strafe with on the last gen, and fires rapidly enough that you can feel safer using it at closer distances to your target. A necessary part of a balanced breakfast in my opinion.

On the current gen tho, the unique strafing isn't so unique anymore and then it just becomes a dumb rifle with no zooming...

So before you engage in a firefight with someone you stop and check stats?

No it does not make them "OP" just have access to weapons out of their range. Minus the weapon they are squishy as a merry weather helicopter.

Aside from surveying the session when I join, I don't always check the stats. There are plenty of fights where I go back and fourth with a guy and he leaves the sessions before I even had a chance to pay decent attention to his name, much less pause and check his stats.

It's important that Rockstar lowered the 'barrier to entry' in GTAO to entice new players or hope that those that gave up around nov 2013 come back, but I think Rockstar should stop at this current point, they have enough ordinance now.

Not sure how I'd feel about NVG or thermal goggles or other gadget/non-lethal things, they should really make them rank locked, but around 30~40 or something.

^This. Lack of skill and lack of health. In my last session I created a new character out of boredom. Playing for over a year with max health on my primary guy I completely forgot how little 20/100 health is. I quickly adapted, so its not a problem for me (hehe) but low level newcomers? Yea... Not a threat

I don't really mind the dlc weapons, especially when I reverse-Zentorno low levels. There's nothing more funnier then watching a level 6 empty his whole Special Carbine clip into the back of my car then running around with like a chicken without a head because he ran out of ammo.

'And proud to be one too...

To be fair, if I get shot while minding my business in freeroam; 8/10 its usually by someone under rank 60.

As long as you guys have no issues with cash cards, dlc weapons will remain not level locked. I bet all the supports of cash cards never thought about how dlc content won't be level locked ;)

Back in my day, we ran around with the default pistol, $5000 hospital bill waiting around every corner. No money to put in the gun, because cigarettes. It was a tough time.

Yes, they have it much easier. I wouldn't say OP, but have it easier than the day 1'ers.
