Can I put updates/DLCs in a separate storage device?

Currently, I have a 16GB Xbox 360 that is loaded with the stock GTA V game, along with the updates and DLCs that came along during the year. With a heist update coming up, and not knowing how bytes it's gonna take up, I'm thinking about investing in a flash drive or another hard drive to keep up.

So, would my game still be playable if I move all of my DLCs to another drive, and keep the stock game loaded into my console, or does everything have to be in the same storage unit?

I think the DLC has to be on the same drive as the main game disk was installed. I used to have my game spread out on 360 with the main install on my hard drive and the play disc installed to my usb drive. I did this for performance reasons and to put less strain on my aging xbox 360 DVD drive. I still installed all the updates to the hard drive though. The DLC's technically become part of the main install so i'm pretty sure they must be on the same drive as the main game install.

for xbox one i downloaded the game from the store so i never have to put in a gta v disc.

On the Xbox 360 you can put them where you like. I had mine on a memory stick and it was fine (disc one on HDD, disc two on external and updates on memory stick). When it updates it will put the update on the HDD but you can move it without problems.

Yes you can, however if you unplug the USB stick, obviously you'll be prompted to download the updates and such

I used to use one for updates, DLC and the 8gb install, the play disc was installed to HDD

Worked fine efore I transfered to ps4, thank god for 500gb HDD as this game eats up a lot of memory

Current gen > Old gen

Shut up

You should upgrade. Then again I use a thumbstick as my storage so what do I know about it?

A larger HD for 360 can't cost much nowadays, just upgrade it

Having one disc installed on HDD and one on external had quicker loading and less scenery popping, about 10-20% faster in my view particularly when loading missions. The internal sata and USB port run near identical speeds so if its accessing data off both instead of bottlenecked on one its marginaly faster.

Don't buy a hard drive, just buy a larger flash drive. That way you'll have a flash drive when your 360 is long gone.
