GTA SA is a game I can easily go back to, and get lost in. GTA V on the other hand is a chore to play, at least in my case.

I'm still waiting for a masterpiece like GTA SA to happen that gets me so engrossed in the freedom, and scope of the content.

Rockstar got so much right in making the game look beautiful but missed on the "fun factor" and "freedom" that made the SA an instant cult classic.

To me, V felt like an attempt to make a cash grab off the SA nostalgia and gameplay wholeheartedly enjoyed by many fans for years, and STILL RULES!

The map I gta v was just too big and it could have been better if the city was about twice the size or if they put much more towns in the country and desert like in sa I mean some of the towns in the desert aren't even used or seen in the story of San andreas. But I have to admit when I was playing as Trevor for the first time in gta v I felt like I was in a complet new map and that was great and I felt the same in sa after the green sabre the fact that they kept it locked out adds to the mystery and fun

Bloody hell I didn't realise how much I just typed till now

who needs desert, and for what actually? so people can perform some stunts with vehicles? did r* went totally moron? until a decent episode or dlc with a really big map addition comes along, v never get my interest in it..

I haven't actually completed V, but from what i've seen, judging from let's plays, reviews, and my friends playing it, V just lacks charm. SA was a gem found in a pile of shiny rocks, it gave players freedom, experience, and fun. Just as Osho said, i think that V is just a nostalgia-based cash grab by R*. IMO, the story in SA made me relaxed, add in the atmosphere and it was perfect. I could load up the disk and play anytime when i'm bored. Unless i'm going for 100%, there's no way for me, at least, to get tired of exploring San Andreas. Sure you can have a massive map, a kickass soundtrack, or beautiful graphics, but i think SA is the definitive version of GTA for me. It's by far the most fun i've had in a GTA game, it still is, and always will be until another GTA beats SA with its awesome story, great gameplay, relatable characters and memorable segments.

Turkey Shenanigans

I picked 11 things. ELEVEN.

Rockstar, this is how you know you've f*cked up on a big game like GTA V. When a past game on a PS2 has better features than a current gen PS3 game.

Damn. Your selection puts my four choices to shame. :p

Only things V did better is graphics and map size.

OK, let's throw the three-protag thing in too.

Other than that, V is just......weak. SA rules, it was way more ambitious for 2004 than V was for 2013.

That freedom. Tons of side activities. Superb map layout. It wasn't big, yet it felt massive. Casinos. Epic story. Epic side characters. I could go on.....

Algonquin Assassin

Let's see..

-A better and more logical map layout.

-Multiple cities.

-Criminal activities/side missions that make sense for CJ to do.

-Character customisation that isn't restricted so you can only do this with that.

-Doesn't try to be both a drama and a goofy comedy.

-Whilst I admit I'm not the biggest fan of CJ he's a far better character than Trevor will ever be.

-A story that might not be the greatest written at least IMO once again doesn't try to be something it's not.

better map (3 cities, bunch of small towns, good desert and countryside)

better side activities (gambling, burglary, lowrider competitions, arcade minigames...)

better gang activities (gang wars, shootouts by rival gangs on borders of gang turfs, gang recruitment, spraying gang grafitti, random criminals stealing cars sometimes, drug dealers...)

better character customization (ability to be skinny, muscular or overweight, ability to learn different fighting styles)

more interiors (you can enter many stores, restaurants and bars, and even other people´s homes in burglary side missions)

more missions

ability to buy properties

better soundtrack

Exactly if it were 100 percent city it would be better

*Story (it has better twists and plot development, apart from The Truth and Toreno missions it is actually more realistic than V where everything is done without doubts for purpose and closes any loose ends perfectly, has great memorable ending, it is like a good movie where V is like a TV serial)

*Customisable Player Options (CJ can hit the gym, skills have higher impact on gameplay, different martial arts and unique rewards for side missions like being fireproof)

*The fun factor / The things kept game alive (stadium events, police rampages, races, jet fights, jetpack, gang wars, tagging, venturas debt collectors, gang recruiting, lowrider meetings, riots, gambling, triathlons, harder 100% to achieve)

*Interiors (CJ can visit some police stations, three casinos, restaurants, gyms, clubs, houses to live or rob and many places during missions, even Liberty City)

*Other/None. (SA-MP and MTA:SA)

  • The story. You aren't thrown across half the map within the first 15 missions, and the supporting characters are actually likeable. More care was put into bringing the narrative to life and in a gradual way to give a proper sense of progression.

Characters. GTA V's lot may look infinitely more realistic with newer tech, but SA's cast is still more believable, relatable and varied.

Optional safehouses. You have that freedom to buy a property without being dictated by the story on where and why. Did you like the house in Vespucci Beach? Or the house in the heart of South LS? Tough.

Clothing. CJ isn't limited to what Rockstar thinks he should wear, or what best suits his lifestyle; that's the opposite of character customisation.

Restaurants. Self-explanatory.

The desert region. Bone County and Venturas surroundings benefited the game. Draw distance trickery made it possible, but it worked. The Grand Senora Desert just feels like a teaser for something that never happens. Having more open "bland" space would compensate for the increase in draw distance, just like the Alamo Sea's real life equivalent, Salton Sea, situated in the middle of nowhere.

Side-missions like Vigilante, ambulance, fireman, and truck driving. Upon completing Pack Man, I was hoping this would make a return, seeing as V's map has the open road for it.

The story. A lot of safehouses to buy. And a lot of interiors compared to V where you can enter just in your house JESUS. The characters from SA are a lot better too. ( Sweet , Ryder , Cesar , Toreno and so on ).

So many reasons , don't have much time to write everything now.

Graphics?

yes graphics.

vcs is using 64/128 textures while vc is 256. but vcs looks great compared to high resolution vc. and the reason is the feeling of the graphics.. so, sa wins over that gta4 map mod with its old but gold graphics

The one thing I consider is the map size. Apparently V is bigger, but it definitely doesn't feel bigger.

The Dedito Gae

Let's see..

-A better and more logical map layout.

It's a square map with a desert near the ocean.

To not become the OG/ Osho of this section i'll say some things:

Less restricted gameplay.

Gore.

Offline multiplayer.

They directly mention Tommy Vercetti.

Las Venturas.

And the singleplayer was the priority, not the multiplayer.

Burglary, Muggings, Car Jacking.

-

Bars, Fast Food, Cart Vendors. Vending machines.

-

Car customizers, and taxi mission.

Edit: My original post wording was in error.
