I don't think it's the Sharon equilibrium I actually follow the guy who came up with that car on IG and yeah it has barely if any relation to the Cheetah or vice versa for that matter.

There is actually a autocar make who make who has a car which looks almost exact to the new Cheetah. Carbon stripe and everything.

Rockstar doesnt want to risk getting sued over infringement of copyright so they SLIGHTLY alter their copy-cars to make the resemble the cars a little less.

I miss the days when game dev's didn't give a crap and just put un-altered cars in games without getting the rights anyway (usually just removing the emblems and logos)

 

Take a game like Silent Hill 2... where James Sunderland's car was a 100% accurate 1977 Pontiac Ventura (only without the arrowhead logo) I think every background car in that game was the same way... I remember there being a perfect model of a Jeep Wagoneer in there too.

 

As well as the traffic cars in the first few Need for Speed games, etc.

NFS 1 had a 1974 Pontiac LeMans and 80's Sunbird, Honda CRX, Ford Probe... 2 had a Jeep Comanche, VW Vanagon, Type 3, Beetle... all kinds of stuff. Although the player cars were licensed, none of those traffic cars were but they were un-altered and from different makes than the cars they did get the rights for.

 

I don't know what changed that every developer got so paranoid about it, but they used to get away with it all the time.

 

The Emperor in GTA V itself is almost an example of this. The headlights are slightly modified and the dash, but nothing else about it really is and it doesn't have parts of any other car fused into it.
