New Heist Chopper Discussion Thread

I don't know about everyone else, but in lue of R*'s "teaser" picture release of the new heist chopper, which was also confirmed earlier today by Funmw2 as being recently added into the game files, this chopper has me just as much (if not more) excited, then the potential release of the "Hunter" attack chopper!

For the first time in GTA, all of our passengers will be able to take a significantly more active roll, in both a attack and defense posture when flying in a chopper!

A detail I noticed however...

Instead of the standard handheld mini-gun (M134) we've been used to hauling around in free mode, it would appear upon closer inspection, that the mounted weapon system on this new chopper (based on the UH-1Y) has received a upgrade and (presumably) is more akin to the (Dillon M134) system found on a rapid extraction chopper, which has a significantly higher rate of fire than your standard mini-gun. Whether this is true or is simply a cosmetic variation, remains open to interpretation pending the upcoming release of heists... But I don't think anyone can deny, this chopper is very exciting none the less?! :)

What are your thoughts on the new chopper? and IF it becomes a Pegasus vehicle that can be used in free mode, will you buy one?!

It will be a Pegasus Vehicle, most likely less the Mounted Gun...which would completely remove any Excitement from using it in Freeroam; so hopefully R* do keep it there and make it available via Pegasus.

That said, the Mounted Gun will in all likelihood perform exactly like a Mini-gun, R* have just opted to introduce a different Model.

Gotta admit this chopper has me excited too. Never got a buzzard online, so this would be my choice just because it looks cool/retro.

Looks like a maverick and swift made a mistake after one too many low passes at eachother.

Ikr, I hope we can get it in grey or olive drab instead of black.

I do not want to be an antithesis. It is just that the machine guns on the buzzard and annililator suc. The guns lack range and have no explosive shells, like the Lazer.

But I will probably buy it just because I have nothing else to blow it on.

What does worry me, is that there is no photo from the hind.

I'm just curious about if the passenger gets to AIM the nose cannon rather than just shoot.

One could only hope they would employ the same role as the co-pilot currently does in the buzzard... Time will tell! ;)

First thing I'm doing in that beauty is putting on some Creedence Clearwater Revival and gunning down some VC.

The guns are good. They're more anti-air based though, can kill ground vehicles (except the tank) easily....provided your aim, and control, is above average. Edited by Otsd4rv4

They had better not make the same mistake with it as they did with the Skylift in singleplayer, by making it only available during a heist. Same with the Kuruma.

Assuming it won't be made of paper mache like every other helicopter in the game is, the first thing I'm going to do is get Michael, Franklin and Trevor together and see how long it lasts versus cops. Then I'll buy it in MP if it's decent.

Also curious to see if the NPCs you escort during missions (Anna in the Cleaning the Cathouse mission, for example) use the turret when they enter the vehicle. That'd make those missions much more interesting if so.

I was thinking of playing this instead....or maybe recreating it.

Every time I see a picture of that helicopter, I think of Arnold: "get back to da chopper".

I must have it.

best part about this is the passengers can help without locking you out like with the buzzard. I absolutely hate letting randoms get in my buzzard during missions because they use that rocket camera and i'm not able to fire missiles the normal way.

really excited overall, glad I didn't buy the swift now.

There was a grey version in the Heists trailer.

The guns 'suck' because they are pilot operated and only fire in the direction of the nose, so in order to aim at ground targets, the pilot has to either nose dive, therefore limiting the time window to 1-2 sec max, or descend to street level and risk hitting poles/etc.. That effectively makes the guns useless against ground targets.

Passenger operated side mounted guns which swivel would be much more effective - especially against the AI, and would be effective against both ground and air vehicles. They would also be way more rewarding as opposed to insta-kill rockets.

Yep, that is what I mean. The helicopters are wobbling like a drunken duck already. To aim at a ground target you have to dive below street light level. If the guns would be tilted down slightly it would not be such a kamikaze ride.

The Swift should have been equiped with Buzzard rockets and a Lazer cannon with explosive shells. Then it would be an Airwolf. The Airwolf from the 80's TV series. Now the Swift is useless. R* did not want to upset the free roam balance.

What worries me about the Hind is that it is probably not ownable, like a Lazer. You have to break in into Zancudo AFB to get one.

R* does have a record of nerfing innocent fun stuff.

Have I been training for this day since 2010? Yes, yes I have.

Bounty Hunting off the radar with friends will be a whole new level of impressive for the bounty, briefly

to be honest, with the ridiculously low range the minigun currently have, i cant see the mounted minigun making much damage...

by the time you manage to line up your heli to shoot me, you would have a homing projectile heading yourway!
