Xbox 360 and Xbox One meetup

Hello. I was just wondering if it's possible for me to meet up my friend in GTA V? I have an xbox 360 and my friend has a Xbox One, does that make a difference? Or do I need to get an Xbox One to be able to play together? I'm new at playing video games so I'm not really sure how these things work. Please advise, thanks :)

Unfortunately the two systems are not compatible... The Xbox one edition has a ton of new features the 360 could not handle.. so in order to play with your friend you would need an Xbox One or he would need an Xbox 360
